Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 290 – Psalm 119:17-24 – Open My Eyes That I May See – Growing As Disciples

Do good to your servant, and I will live; I will obey your word. Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me. My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times. You rebuke the arrogant, who are cursed and who stray from your commands. Remove from me scorn and contempt, for I keep your statutes. Though rulers sit together and slander me, your servant will meditate on your decrees. Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors. Psalm 119:17-24 (NIV)

My Prayer

That is my prayer. What is your prayer? I want to see wonderful things in your word. I want to hear and see all that you want to show me. I will ask you to show me the wonderful things that are in your word. That is a very good desire and prayer you have within you. How will you be able to see wonderful things in my word? What will be your responsibility? I will meet with you in your word. I will hunger for your word. I will delight in your word. I will listen attentively to your word. I will meditate on your word. I will think deeply about all you have to show me from your word. I will put your word into practice. That will be very good.

What has my word done for you? Your word has changed my heart and transformed my mind. Your word has given me your thoughts to think, words to speak and deeds to do. Your word has been my counselor. Your word has been my guide. Your word has put the things of this short life on earth into proper perspective. This life is not all that there is. This life is like a snap of the fingers or a blink of an eye. I am just passing through this life. Your word has shown me that my true and everlasting home is with you in heaven. Your word has given me wisdom. Your word has taught me to number my days. How so? Your word has given my life a purpose. Your word has given me a passion. Your word has sent me on a mission. I want to be used by you. I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. I want to shine brightly for you in the darkness of this world. I want you to use my life to help lead others to you, so that they can also be able to follow you as their Savior and Lord. Yes, my word, has done all these things for you. Listen carefully to my word. Watch closely to all that I will show you. Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Heavenly Father, I long for your word. I delight in your word. Your word has been my counselor. Your word has guarded and guided me through life. Open my eyes to see all the wonderful things you want to show me in your word. Thanks for speaking to me. Amen

Open My Eyes

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 179 - Psalm 119:17-24 - Open My Eyes - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 179 – Psalm 119:17-24 – Open My Eyes – Growing As Disciples

Be good to your servant, that I may live and obey your word.  Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.  I am only a foreigner in the land. Don’t hide your commands from me!  I am always overwhelmed with a desire for your regulations.  You rebuke the arrogant; those who wander from your commands are cursed.  Don’t let them scorn and insult me, for I have obeyed your laws.  Even princes sit and speak against me, but I will meditate on your decrees.  Your laws please me; they give me wise advice. Psalm 119:17-24 (NLT)

Open Your Eyes

Would you like me to open your eyes? Would you like to see wonderful things in my word? Would you like my word to guide the course of your life? Would you like my word to richly bless your life? Would you like to receive wise and timely advice from my word? Yes, I want you to open my eyes. I don’t want to fail to see what you want to show me. I want your word to guide the course of my life. I want your word to richly bless my life. I want to receive all the timely and wise advice you will give me from your word. Your desires are good. What must you do if you want all these things to be true for you? Well, the first and most obvious thing I must do is to ask you to open my eyes. I must humbly admit that I need your help to see what you want to show me. I am not naturally wise or observant or insightful. Much of the time, I am oblivious to what you are doing in and around me. I am more than a little dense at times. To say that spiritual insight does not come naturally to me would be a great understatement. So, step one is to ask for your help. That is what I’m asking. Open my eyes. I will hear and answer that request of yours. What else must you do if you want to see wonderful things from my word? Well, step two is just as obvious as step one. If I want your word to bless my life, I must meet with you in it. If I don’t meet with you in your word, I certainly cannot expect to receive any blessing from it. Only as I meet with you in your word will I receive wisdom and instruction and guidance. Only as I meet with you in your word can I be guided by it. That is true. So, I have a second request. Give me a hunger and thirst for your word. Give me a desire for your word that is all consuming. Give me a passionate desire to hear from you. This is also a prayer that I will hear and answer. Thank you, Lord. It will be my joy to meet with you daily in your word. That will be very good.

Lord, as I meet with you in your word, open my eyes so I can see all that you want to show me. As I meditate on your word, help me to receive the wise advice you want to give me. Give me a hunger for your word. Help me to live my life according to your word. Amen
