Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 58 – Psalm 18:30 – He Is A Shield – Growing As Disciples

As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.  Psalm 18:30 (NIV)

My Way

What’s the difference between your way and my way? Your way is flawless. My way is flawed. You have an eternal perspective. You see everything. Nothing escapes your notice. I have a very limited perspective. I can only see portions of my past and present. I have no knowledge of the future. I miss so much. I fail to see so many things that are right before me. A lot escapes my notice. My way is far from perfect. So much of what I see revolves around my own thoughts and feelings and values none of which are perfect. Sin has not distorted your picture. You see things as they really are. In every way my perspective has been tainted by my own sin and the sin that is in the world. On my own I have no hope of living and walking in the truth. You are the way and the truth and the life. My own way does not lead to the truth and the life. That’s right.

You do have hope. You do have a reason to have faith. You can walk in the way, the truth and the life. Yes, I am sure of that. What make you so sure? You love me. You gave yourself for me. You broke the power that sin had over my life. You set me free to live my life with and for you. You want me to walk in the way, the truth and the life. You don’t want me stumbling around in darkness. You want to teach me. You want to guard and guide my life. Yes, I do.

How will you be able to receive all that I want to give to you? You are my refuge and my strength. I can come to you for all that I need. You will not withhold any good thing from me. I can rely on you. Yes, you can. Your word is flawless. It has proven itself to be completely true. I can meet with you in your word. I can listen to your voice. Yes, you can. Your word will guard and guide my life. Your word makes your thoughts and your ways known to me. Your word will change my heart and transform my mind. You will allow me to think what you think and feel what you feel. Yes, I will. Your word will keep me on the path walking with you. I will follow you to where you lead me to do all that you ask of me. Why is that? Your word will both give and grant me the desires of my heart. I will desire to do what pleases you. You will be pleased to grant to me the desires you have placed in my heart. Yes, I will.

What are the desires of your heart? My desire is to live and walk with you. I want to know you and your word. I want to hear all that you have to say to me. I want my thoughts, words, and deeds to be in complete agreement with your will and your ways. In every way I want to please you. Why is that? You love me and I love you. Yes, I do. I am so thankful that you have given me your flawless word to guard and guide my life. So, I will keep coming to you to meet with you in your word. Yes, you will.

Lord, thank you that your way is perfect. Thank you that your word is flawless. Thank you that your word has been a shield around me. Thank you that I can take refuge in your word. Guide all my thoughts, words and deeds by your word. Amen
