Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 313 – Romans 15:4 – Was Written To Teach Us – Growing As Disciples

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Romans 15:4 (NIV)

Teach Me

That is what I want you to do. What do you want me to do? I want you to teach me. I will be your student. I am your follower. I will listen carefully to everything you have to say to me. I will accept your instruction. I will follow your guidance. I will put your word into practice. I will obey your commands. I will allow your word to form the thoughts of my mind, the words of my mouth and the deeds of my life. That will be very good.

When will class be in session? How will I hear and learn and receive all that you want to teach me? I would like to hear your thoughts on these questions. Your class will always be in session. You will use all the twists and turns and ups and downs of life to teach me. Nothing will be beyond your use, to instruct me. That is true. But your class will especially be in session when I come to meet with you in your word. There is not a day that I will not need to receive wisdom and guidance, encouragement and endurance, patience and strength, and much that comes from your word. That is also true.

When will you meet with me in my word? When will you listen attentively to my word? When will you receive all that I have to give you from my word? I will meet with you daily in your word. I will take your word deeply into my heart and mind and life. I will read and study your word. I will meditate on and memorize your word. I will pray and proclaim your word. Your word will be ever before me. In every way, on every day, I will take a hold of your word so that it takes a hold of me. That will be very good.

What do you expect that my word will do for you? Beyond, what I have already mentioned? Yes beyond, what you have already mentioned. I expect that your word will teach and train me to be able to hear and recognize your voice. I expect that your word will help me to come to know you intimately. I expect that your word will change my heart and transform my mind. I expect that your word will make me able to follow and obey you, to live the life that you have called me to live. Yes, my word will do all these things in you, for you and through you. Let my word dwell richly in you. Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good. Of that I have no doubt. Of that, I am certain.

Lord, I will take your word deeply into my heart and mind and life so I can receive all that you want to give to me. Give me endurance and encouragement and hope as I meet with you daily in your word. Teach and instruct me and guide my life with your word. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - God's Word- Romans 15:4 - Teach Me - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Word – Romans 15:4 – Teach Me – Growing As Disciples

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.               Romans 15:4 (NIV)

Teach Me

Will you teach me? Will you train me? Will you make yourself available to me? What do you mean by that? My word has been written down for you. My word is designed to teach and train you. Will you study my word? Will you take my word into your heart and mind and life? Yes, I will take your word into my heart and mind and life. I will allow you to guard and guide my life, by your word. How often should I study your word? How frequently should I let your word dwell in me richly? How often and how frequently do you want me to teach and train you? That is a good question. There is no time that I don’t want you to be teaching and training me. I always want you to be guarding and guiding my life by your word. That is very good.

So, what will you do? I’m starting to understand how your teaching and training will work. How so? You are the teacher. I am the student. You are always ready, willing and able to teach and train me. Yes, I am. Am I always ready, willing and able to be taught and trained by you? That is the question. Will I set apart a daily time and place to meet with you in your word? That is another question. Will I carry what you are teaching me from your word with me throughout my day? That is the final question. In other words, will you meditate on my word day and night. Will you keep my word ever before you, in your heart and mind and life? Yes, I will keep your word ever before me. Yes, I will meditate on your word day and night. Yes, I will set apart a daily time and place to meet with you in your word. That will be very good.

What do you expect to learn as you study my word? I expect that I will come to know you. Why is that? I will be quieting myself before you. I will be listening to you as you speak to me. That’s good. What else? I expect that I will learn to walk in your ways. Why is that? I will be hearing and putting into practice all that you are teaching me. That’s good. What else? I will receive everything that I need. I will receive everything you want to give me. Like what? To name a few, I will receive endurance through trials, encouragement through difficulty and hope in seemingly hopeless situations. What I will receive from you will be without limit, as I meet with you in your word. That’s true. Keep on meeting with me in my word. Yes Lord, I will. I know that you will teach and train me with your word. That is very good.

Lord, thank you that your word has been written down, so I can be taught by it. Your word has given me hope in seemingly hopeless situations, encouragement through struggles and patience endurance through all the trials of life. I will gladly study your word. Amen
