Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 55 – Romans 8:35-39 – More Than Conquerors – Growing As Disciples

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?  As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”  No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,  neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35-39 (NIV)

More Than A Conqueror

You will go through pain and suffering and loss in this life. This is a sin broken world. This world no longer functions according to its original design. I suffered. I felt pain. I experienced loss. Why would your experience be any different than mine? Do these thoughts surprise you? Do these thoughts overwhelm you? I have been no stranger to pain and suffering and loss. So, no these thoughts do not surprise or overwhelm me. I know this is a sin broken world. I don’t expect to live a life that was different than yours. You suffered, you felt pain, you suffered loss, so will I. Does this realization discourage, depress or defeat you? No, not at all, not in the least. Why is that? I have hope. I have faith. I have trust. Tell me about your hope and faith and trust? I can place all my hope and faith and trust in you. You will be with me in every adversity. You will carry me through every difficulty. I can rely on you in every trouble. How do you know that? You love and care for me. You came into this sin broken world to live and die for me. You demonstrated your love for me by paying for my sins by your death on the cross. You poured yourself out for me. You made it so I could be forgiven of all my sins and cleansed of all my unrighteousness. You have been leading and guiding me through life. You have been my shelter in every storm. Never have you abandoned me. Never have you forsaken me. You have comforted me in every affliction. You always been with me to help me. For that I am thankful. For that I am grateful. That is very good.

What else do you know? This life is not all that there is. What else is there? You have secured a place for me in heaven. My life in heaven with you, is being kept and guarded by your power. So, no matter what happens to me in this life; victory has already been won. I am more than a conqueror because you lived and died for me. You made me to be your very own. I am your child. One day soon, I will come to live forever in heaven with you. That will be very good. Yes, It will.

Lord, I know I will go through pain and suffering and loss in this life. I also know you will be with me to help me. You will comfort and encourage and strengthen me. You will bring me through every adversity. Your love has made me more than a conqueror. Amen

Romans 8:35-39 (NIV)

Your Love

Your love surrounds me. Your love comforts and encourages and strengthens me. Your love guards and guides me. Your love protects me from trouble and hardship, persecution or famine or nakedness danger or sword. Nothing will ever be able to separate me from your love. Will I go through dark and difficult days? Will the forces of evil come against me? Will I face trials and tribulations in life? Yes, without a doubt. You did, why wouldn’t I? Why would I be exempt from the pain and suffering that is in this sin broken world? Might I have to endure something quite difficult. Might some say, “I’m done for now.” It is certainly possible. But they would not know the whole truth. They would not see the entire picture. They would not know that you have always been with me. You have never abandoned me. I am yours. You are my Savior and Lord. You are my God and Father. I am your child. Yes, I am your Savior and Lord. Yes, I am your God and Father. Yes, you are my child. You are holding on to me and I am holding on to you. Yes, I am holding on to you. Your grip on me is unbreakable. You will never let me go. Yes, I will never let you go. What else do you know? You have a glorious eternal future that is stored up and being kept and guarded in heaven for me. Can there be any greater hope? Can there be any greater victory? Could I have any more joy? Could I want or ask for anything more? What do you think? I think, I am and will be more than a conqueror because of all that you have done for me. That’s right. That’s true. That’s certain.

So, what kind of thoughts will you think? What kind of life will you live? Will you be timid and weak? Will you be fearful and afraid? No, certainly not. I will not be fearful or afraid. My life is in your hands and you will never let me go. You will be with me to help me. Nothing will ever be able to separate me from your love. So, my heart and mind and life will be focused entirely on you. I will boldly and joyfully live the life you are calling me to live. That will be very good.

Lord, I know nothing will ever be able to separate me from your love. You have been with me to help me through dark and difficult days in life. You have comforted, strengthened and sustained me. You have made me more than a conqueror through your love. Amen

Key Question… How has the Lord strengthened and sustained you in the most trying of circumstances?

Living It Out… Rely on the Lord to supply all that you need through all the trials and tribulations in life.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord has made you to be more than a conqueror through His love for you.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how the Lord has been with you to help you throughout all of life.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you live as more than a conqueror through the love of Jesus Christ, your Savior and Lord.

More Than Conquerors

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Love - Romans 8:35-39 - More Than Conquerors - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Love – Romans 8:35-39 – More Than Conquerors – Growing As Disciples

Romans 8:35-39 (NIV)

Separate Me

Let me get this straight. Nothing will ever be able to separate me from your love? The worst trouble, greatest hardship and strongest persecution cannot separate me from your love? The severest famine cannot separate me from your love?  Being naked or in danger or even facing a sharp sword cannot separate me from your love? If was like a sheep being led to slaughter, even that could not separate me from your love? Do have I have all this correct? Is your word completely true? Yes, you have all this correct. My word is completely true.

In every hardship, trial and storm you will be more than a conqueror. In every persecution and danger, you will be more than a conqueror. You could be naked. You could be facing a sharp sword. You could even be like a sheep being led to slaughter. In all those circumstances you will still be more than a conqueror. Do you know why that is? Yes, I think I do. Tell me. You love me. You are with me. You will help me. My eternal future with you is completely secure. Life could throw its very word at me, yet you will be with me to carry me though it. Yes, I have, Yes, I am and Yes, I will. How do you know this to be true? I have already gone through great difficulties. I have already suffered significant hardships. You have never left me. You have never forsaken me. You have always been with me to help me. So, are you totally convinced that death, nothing in life, nor angels or demons, nothing in the present or future, no power, no height or depth, and nothing in all of creation will ever be able to separate you from my love? Yes, I am totally convinced. I am completely certain. You have me in your hands. Your love has surrounded me. Your love is guiding me. Your love is guarding me. Your love will bring home to heaven and my eternal life with you. Yes, It will.

Lord, I have experienced pain and suffering in this life. I have been hurt and rejected. I have wept and cried out to you. Your love has surrounded me. You have always been with me. Nothing can ever separate me from your love and the future I have in you. Amen
