Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 68 -2 Timothy 3:16-17 – Thoroughly Equipped – Growing As Disciples

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Preparing You

Why have I given you my word? What do you think I want to accomplish in you by my word? You have given me your word to make yourself known to me. Without your word I would know very little about you. You want to teach me your will and show me your ways. You want to rebuke me when I’m wrong. You want to correct me and set me on the path of righteousness as I love, follow and serve you. Yes, I do.

What must you do in order for my word to accomplish my work in you? I’m not exactly sure what you mean. What will short circuit my word working in your life? I need to spend time meeting with you in your word. I need to let your word dwell in me richly. I need to meditate on your word day and night. What else? I need to hear and obey all that you are saying to me.  I need to put into practice whatever you show me. I need to be a hearer and a doer of your word. Yes, that’s right.  As your word dwells in me, I will be strengthened to go where you guide me to do what you ask of me. I will be able to stand against temptations in this world and the evil that the devil throws at me. Yes, you will.

Is my word just for you? Do I have another very important purpose in mind that I want to accomplish in you, by my word? Your word is not just for me. You want to change my heart and transform my mind and guide my life by your word. Yes, I do. Then what? You do have another very important purpose in mind. What’s that? You want to use me for your kingdom and glory. You want me to bear an abundance of fruit for you.  Yes, I do. So, what is my word doing in you now? Your word is preparing and equipping me to do the work that you have given me to do for you. You have good works planned for me to do for you. Yes, I do. Whatever you guide me to do, you will prepare me to do. Yes, I will.

So why is it so important that you spend time with me in my word? You will use your word to change who I am. You will use your word to prepare me to do what you have given me to do. Yes, I will.

Lord, I delight to hear your word. Your word has changed the course of my life. Your word is teaching and training me to live the life you have called me to live. Thank you that your word is equipping me to do the work you have given me to do for you.  Amen

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Meet With Me

Do you want to live the life that I have called you to live? Do you want to be the person that I have called you to be? Do you want to be able to do the work that I have given you to do? Yes, I want to be who you want me to be. Yes, I want to do what you have given me to do. Yes, I want to live the life that you have called me to live. How can and will all these become realities in my life? That is a very good question.

If you want to live the life that I have called you to live, then you will meet with me in my word. If you want to become the person that I have called you to become, then you will meet with me in my word. If you want to be able to do the work that I have given you to do, then you will meet with me in my word. If you fail to meet with me in my word then none of these will become realities in your life. Is this easy enough for you to understand? Is there anything that is unclear to you? Have you captured the importance of meeting with me in my word? What you have said to me is quite clear and very easy to understand. I have completely captured in my heart and mind the importance of meeting with you in your word. That is very good.

How often do you want me to use my word to work in your life? I’m not sure what you mean. Do you want me to use my word to work in your life monthly, weekly or daily? I would like you to use your word to work in my life daily. Good answer. I think I have an even better answer to your question. I would like to hear that answer. I would like you to use your word to work in my life moment by moment of every day as I love, follow and serve you. That is a much better answer. If you want me to use my word to work in your life moment by moment of every day as you love, follow and serve me what will you do? I will richly welcome your word into my life. How will you do that? I will meet with you in your word every day. But beyond that, I will carry your word with me wherever I go. I will meditate on your word. I will memorize your word. I will pray your word. I will declare your word. I will claim your word. In every way, I will grab a hold of your word and put it into practice in my life. That will be very good. Then I will know that you will be using your word to constantly do its work in my life. Yes, I will, of that you can be sure.

Lord, I welcome your word into my life. Use your word to teach me. Use your word to correct and rebuke me. Use your word to train and equip me. I want to be a man of God who is completely prepared to do every good work you have given me to do for you. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Word – 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All Scripture Is God Breathed – Growing As Disciples

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Thoroughly Equipped

Do you want me to teach and train you? Do you want me to guide and correct you? Do you want me to prepare and thoroughly equip you to do the works that I have given you to do for me? Yes, I want you to teach and train me. Yes, I want you to guide and correct me. Yes, I want you to thoroughly prepare and equip me to do the works you have given me to do for you. Who would ever say no to these kinds of questions from you? You would be surprised. How would I be surprised? Let’s talk some more about my teaching, training, guiding, correcting, preparing and equipping you. I’d like that.

How do you think you might sign up for my class? Where do you think our class might meet? What would be the textbook for my class? Now, I know how and why people might say no to your teaching, training, guiding, correcting, preparing and equipping them. Why is that? The work that you want to do in each and every one of your followers will require some very had work on their part. Why do you say that? I will answer your questions. Go right ahead. I will sign up for your class when I take your word off the shelf and open it. That’s right. We will meet together in your word. Your word is the location of our class. Yes, it is. Your textbook is your word. Right again. When your followers are unwilling to open your word they are saying no to you. They are saying no to your teaching and training. They are saying no to your guiding and correcting. They are saying no to your preparing and equipping them to do the good works that you have given them to do for you. Yes, you’re right.

What must you do if you really want to sign up for the work that I want to do in and through your life? What must you do if you really want to live the life that I have given you to live? What must you do if you really want to be able to bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name? I must meet with you in your word. How often must you meet with me in my word? Is there ever a day that I don’t need to be taught, trained, guided, corrected, prepared or equipped by you? You tell me. No, I need to meet everyday with you in your word. I need to welcome your work in and through my life every day. Will you meet with me in my word everyday? Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, thank you for your word. It is my delight to meet with you in your word. Use your word to teach and train me. Use your word to guide and correct me. Use your word to prepare and thoroughly equip me to do good works you have given me to do for you.  Amen
