Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Mouth – Psalm 119:129-133 – Longing For Your Commands – Growing As Disciples

Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands. Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name. Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. Psalm 119:129-133 (NIV)

Panting For Your Word

Look at me, my mouth is wide open. I am out of breath and panting for your word. You speak to me freely, yet I cannot hear enough of your word. Your word is wonderful. Your word is my delight. It is my joy to hear all that you want to say to me. You have my ears. You have my heart. You have my mind. You have all of me. My full attention is turned toward you. My focus is entirely on you. I am listening attentively to your word. I will obey all that you show me. I put into practice all that you teach me. That is very good.

Why are you so ready and willing to obey me? I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. You have blessed my life with your words. Your word has given light to my path. No longer will I stumble around in the darkness. I will follow your word as you guide my way through life. At one time, I had no wisdom. I did what I shouldn’t have done. I went where I shouldn’t have gone. I wandered away from you. I was lost and without hope in the world. But, you rescued me. You brought me to yourself. I did not deserve your mercy. I did not merit your forgiveness. Yet, you turned my life around. You gave me a new life of loving, following and serving you. Yes, I did.

How has my word helped you? What more has my word done for you? Your word has shown me what steps to take in life. Your word has shown me where to go and what to do for you. Your word has set me free. Sin no longer has power over me. Your word is guarding and guiding my life. Your word is making me able to live my life with and for you. Your word has set me on a new course. Your word has given me the wisdom to want to know and do your will. Your word has given me the desire to accomplish your purposes and plans. I now want to do what is pleasing to you. That is very good.

Lord, my mouth is open. I am breathless and panting for more of your word. Your word has given me light and wisdom. I can’t get enough. I long for more. I love you Lord! Guard and guide my life and my next steps by your word. Amen
