Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Miracles – Matthew 9:29-31 – According To Your Faith – Growing As Disciples
Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you”; and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region. Matthew 9:29-31 (NIV)
Your Faith
How much faith do you have? I’m not sure that I can answer that question. Would you like me to ask you a few questions about your faith? Yes, I would like that. Is it worth your time and effort to cry out to me in prayer? Do you believe that I am able to answer your prayers? Do you believe that I will hear and answers your prayers? Are you consistently and persistently coming to ask me for all that you need? Those are all good questions. Do you have some good answers? I have some answers. I’m not sure how good they are. Let me hear your answers. I do believe that you are able to answer my prayers. I do believe that you will hear and answer my prayers. I am certain that it is well worth my time to cry out to you in prayer. Those are all good answers. Are your answers all true? Why do you ask that? You tell me.
If I believe that you can and will hear and answer my prayers then I would pray more. I would cry out to you, more regularly, with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. That’s true. If I believe that you can and will hear and answer my prayers I would consistently and persistently keep on crying out to you in prayer. That is also true. So, would you say that what you believe is not consistent with your actions? Yes, I would. What do you want to do about that? I want to ask you for your help. I will cry out to you and ask you to teach me how to pray. I will cry out to you and ask you to develop a pattern and practice of prayer in me. I want to meet with you in prayer. I want to come to ask you for all that I need. I want you to give me prayers to pray. I want you to work in and through me as you give me prayers to pray. I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name through the prayers that you give me to pray. Use the life of prayer you will develop in me to accomplish your purposes in and through me. Will you keep on praying these prayers? Yes Lord, I will. Then I will hear and answer your prayers.
Lord, I will persistently cry out to you in prayer. With a heart filled with faith, I will come to ask you for all I need. I will rely on you to hear and answer my prayers. Thank you for all the goodness you have shown to me. Use me as your bold witness in the world. Amen
