Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 97 – Matthew 11:28-30 – Come To Me – Growing As Disciples

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

Easy Yoke, Light Burden

Here I am. I have withdrawn from the busyness of life. Yes, I am weary and worn out. I need the rest that only you can give. I need you to revive, refresh and restore my life. But I need and want far more from you. What do you want from me? I will simply say that I want all that you have in mind to give me. I want to receive all that you have for me. Would you like to be more specific? Yes, I would. I want you to mold and shape my life. I want you to change my heart and transform my mind. I want you to guide my life. I want to live the kind of life you lived. I want to follow in your steps. I want to go where you went. I want to do what you did. It sounds to me like you want me to make you to be exactly like me. Is that true? Yes, that is the utmost desire of my heart. That is the goal of my life. That is the pursuit of all my endeavors. I want to become like you. I want to think your thoughts. I want to speak your words. I want to take your actions. You are making a very good request from me.

What must you do if you want to become like me? I must come to you. I must rest and remain in your presence. I must make myself fully available to you. I must seek you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. Then I will come to know and love you. Then you will make me to be like you. I will be changed as I remain in your presence. Yes, you will. What else will you be able to do as you remain in my presence and I make you to be like me? I will be able to carry your easy yoke and light burden Yes, you will. Why will you be able to carry my light yoke and easy burden? I will be able to carry your light yoke and easy burden because doing so will be the desire of my heart. I will doing what I want to do because I will have come to love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. I will be living the life I have always wanted to live. Which is? To do what is good and right and pleasing in your eyes. That is very good.

Lord, I know that your yoke is not easy, and burden is not light if I try to carry it with my own strength. But you will make me more like you as I come daily to rest in your presence. Then you will make your yoke easy and your burden light for me to carry. Amen
