Immovable

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Be - 1 Corinthians 15:58 - Immovable - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Be – 1 Corinthians 15:58 – Immovable – Growing As Disciples

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (ESV)

Tried And Tested

I have given you work to do for me. I have called you into my service. The work that I will give to you will not be easy. The work that you will do for me will require your full attention and very best effort. You will be tried and tested by the work you will do for me. How so? You will think that I have asked you to do what you cannot do. Will I be wrong? That is a very good and wise question. You will not be wrong. Let me get this straight, you will ask me to do work I cannot do for you? That is right. Why is that? The work that I will give you to do for me will cause you to rely on me. Is that a test? You mentioned that I would be tried and tested. Yes, I did. Your first test will ask you to rely on me to go and do the work I will give you to do. That seems like two tests. How so? I will be tested to see if I will be willing to do your work and if I will rely on you to do it. That’s right. Are you speaking from experience? You know that I am. There have been many times that I have tried to go and do your work solely with my own strengths, talents and abilities without relying on you. How has that worked out for you? Relying solely on my strengths, talents and abilities to do your work has been an unfruitful endeavor that has left me depressed, depleted and defeated. Under those circumstances, I have given up and quit. So, to pass this first test I need to say yes to what you ask of me and rely on you to make me able to do the work you have given me to do for you. That’s right.

Will I face any more tests when I am doing your work? Yes, you will. Did I mention that my work would be hard? Yes, you did. My work will be hard enough that you will be tempted to quit. You will face uncertainty. You will experience set-backs. You will feel discouraged and defeated. You will wonder if your work will ever bear fruit for my kingdom. You will doubt that you are bringing glory to my name. You must keep on going. You must keep on doing my work. You will need to hold on to me as I hold on to you. I will sustain and strengthen you. You will bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. Your labor for me will never be in vain. Will you pass this test? Will you keep on serving me? Yes Lord, with your help I will keep on following and serving you. Good answer.

Lord, thank you for giving me work to go and do for you. I know that the work you have given me to do will not be easy. I know your work will require my best effort. I will not grow weary. I will not quit. Sustain and strengthen me to keep on doing your work. Amen

Stand Firm

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Therefore - 1 Corinthians 15:58 - Stand Firm - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Therefore – 1 Corinthians 15:58 – Stand Firm – Growing As Disciples

Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)

Go All Out

Go all out. Give yourself fully to my work. Don’t hesitate. Don’t hold back. Move forward with me. Follow me to where I lead you. Do all that I ask of you. Will you do this for me? Yes Lord, I will go all out to serve you. I will hold nothing in reserve. I will not hold back. I will not hesitate. I will not retreat. I will move forward with you. I know that you will give me the power and strength to do all that you are calling me to do for you. Yes, I will. I know that my labor for you will never be in vain. I know that it would be impossible for me to misspend my life in serving you. You will help me to bear an abundance of fruit for your kingdom. You will help me to bring glory to your name. Yes, I will. There is no place I would rather go than to where you are leading me. There is nothing I would rather do than all that what you ask of me. Why are you so willing to wholeheartedly serve me? I am willing to serve you not because I should or must. I am willing to serve you because I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. Doing anything less than an all out effort or anything else than serving you has no appeal to me. I want to do what you want me to do for you. I want to know you. I want to walk in your ways. I can see that.

What makes you so certain? Why are you so sure that your life will never be misspent serving me? Why will nothing move you? Why will nothing prevent you from going all out to serve me? I know who you are. I know what you have done for me. Tell me who I am. Tell me what I have done for you. You are my Savior and Lord. You lived and died for me. You gave your all for me. Yes, I did. I want to give my all for you. I also know my future. What is your future? One day I will come to live forever in heaven with you. That’s right. I also know that you will want me to tell you what I have done with my life. You will want to see the fruit that I have born for your kingdom. You will want to see that I have brought glory to your name. You will want to tell me that I have done well as your good and faithful servant. Yes, I will. That is why I am going all out for you now. That is very good.

Lord, thank you for the certainty that one day I will come to live forever in heaven with you. Right now, in this life, I will go all out to serve you. I will not work only for the rewards of this life. I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Amen

Let Nothing Move You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 52 -1 Corinthians 15:58 - Let Nothing Move You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 52 -1 Corinthians 15:58 – Let Nothing Move You – Growing As Disciples

Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)

Is It Worth It?

It is worth it? Is what worth what? Is all your faithful and hard work for me worth it? I would have never expected you to ask me that kind of question. Why do you think I’m asking you that question right now? It’s a good question to think about when I’m not weary and worn out or going through great difficulty. Why is that? I think it’s important to have an answer to that question in advance before I’m at one of my weakest points in life. Yes, it is. There will be days that your advance decision-making will help you through temptations and trials.

Are you thinking about your answer? Yes, I am. What’s on your mind? I’m sure that every second, minute and hour of service to you is worth it. I want my life to be one long act of continual service to you. I want to bear an abundance of fruit for your kingdom and your glory. I want to be well used by you. I don’t want any gift, talent, ability or resource that you have given me to go to waste. I want to better know your will and your ways as I serve you. There is a “but” coming isn’t there? Yes and no, kind of sort of, I suppose. Tell me what you are thinking. I can’t answer your question completely. The worth of my serving you can’t be completely known or fully measured in this life. I can only partially know the value of my service until the day I look back with you in the light of eternity. On that day I so want to hear you say, “Well done good and faithful servant.” I’m serving you now with that hope in mind. Hearing those words from you would make every day of my work for you worth it, of that I am sure. Yes, it will.

Looking forward to your eternal life with me in heaven motivates your service to me today, is that right? Yes, my eyes are fixed on heaven. My focus is on you. I know my future is securely in your hands. I know that you have a place prepared for me. Knowing this has given me strength. Knowing this has given me hope. Knowing this has given me courage to stand firm, allowing nothing to move me. It is the desire of my heart to give myself fully to the work that you have given me to do. You have prepared good works for me to do and I am going to do them with all the power that you have given me. I know that all my labor will never be in vain. Yes, it is worth it! Yes, it is.

Lord, thank you that my future in heaven is secure and awaits me. Help me now to stand firm, letting nothing move me, as I give myself fully to the work that you have called me to do for you. I know my labor will not be in vain. Amen

Give Yourself Fully

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Becoming Like Christ - Day 132- 1 Corinthians 15:58 - Give Yourself Fully - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 132- 1 Corinthians 15:58 – Give Yourself Fully – Growing As Disciples

Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)

Firmly And Fully

There is one reason I can stand firmly with you. There is one reason I can give myself fully to you. Both are possible for the very same reason. Why can you stand firmly with me? Why will you give yourself fully to me? You lived and died and rose again for me. You forgave my sin. You cleansed my unrighteousness. You adopted me into your family. You made me to be your child. You broke the power of sin over my life. You filled me with your Holy Spirit. You made it possible for me to come to live forever in heaven with you. You have secured a place for me in heaven. I have a certain and eternal future that puts all of this life into perspective. What perspective do you now have on life? This life is temporary. This life is fleeting. This life is like the snap of the fingers or the blink of an eye. It would be foolish to labor for all that this world has to offer. Why is that? I brought nothing into this world, and I will take nothing out of this world. So, what will you pursue? How will you spend your life? What is worthy of your pursuit? I will spend my life pursing you. I will follow your example. I will think what you thought. I will say what you said. I will do what you did. I will pursue knowing and loving and following and serving you. I will live the life that you have called me to life. What life have I called you to live? You have called me to love like you loved. You have called me to give like you gave. You have called me to serve like you served. How did I love and give and serve? You gave yourself fully. You gave yourself sacrificially. You gave yourself relentlessly. You made no retreats, held nothing in reserve and had no regrets. You did all that your Heavenly Father gave you to go and do for Him. Yes, I did. That is what I will do. That is the desire of my heart. That is the mission and vision and goal of my life. I will stand firmly with you and I will give myself fully to you. I am at your service. Use my life to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Help me to bear fruit that will last for all eternity. Yes, I will. You count on me. That I will do. That is very good.

Lord, all my hope is in you. I know that one day I will come to live forever in heaven with you. In the meantime, I will give myself fully to your word because I know that my labor will never be in vain. I will bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Amen

Let Nothing Move You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Becoming Like Christ - Day 70 - 1 Corinthians 15:58 - Let Nothing Move You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 70 – 1 Corinthians 15:58 – Let Nothing Move You – Growing As Disciples

Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)

Immovable

That is what I would like to be. What would you like to be? I would like to be immovable. What do you mean by that? I would like to keep on giving myself fully to your work. I would like to keep on moving forward with you. I would like to keep on following you to where you lead me. I would like to keep on doing whatever you ask of me. That’s very good. What’s the problem? Well, the problem is me. I know that you are rock solid. I know that I can trust you. I know that I can rely on you completely. You never change; you will always be my fortress of strength. I however am not rock solid. Everything about me does change. One day I am strong; another day I am weak. One day I am confident; another day I am timid. One day I am filled with faith; another day I have my doubts. I could go on and on. But you get the idea. Yes, I do get the idea. You are worried that you will not be immovable. I am more than worried. I am certain that with my own strength I will never be immovable. That’s good. That’s good? Why is that good? Has someone asked you to be immovable with your own strength? I thought so. Well, I have not asked you to be immovable with your own strength. You haven’t? No, I haven’t. Maybe it is you that have asked yourself to be immovable with your own strength. I guess so. You guess so? No, I know so.

If you have not asked me to be immovable with my own strength what have you asked of me? Now, that is a very good question. I have asked you to come to rely on me. I have asked you to place all your faith in me. I have asked you to draw near to me. I have asked you to hold on to me. I have asked you to trust me completely. Does this sound familiar to you? Yes, it does. Do you believe that I can make you immovable? Do you believe that I can make you fruitful? Do you believe that I can help you to give yourself fully to me? Do you believe that I will help you to keep on moving forward with me? Yes Lord, I believe that you can do all these things in and through and for me. You will help me to keep on giving myself to your work so that I will be able to continue to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Yes, I will. I will place all my faith in you. That is very good.

Lord, help me to be steadfast and immovable as I love, follow and serve you. Help me to give myself fully to your work. I know that my labor for you will never be in vain. Make me able to bear abundant fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Amen
