Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 285 – 1 Thessalonians 2:13 – At Work In You Who Believe – Growing As Disciples

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV)

Receiving Your Word

I want you to be able to do your work in me. I don’t want anything I do or don’t do to hinder your work in me. That’s good. It sounds to me like you already know what will hinder my work in you. By the way, that is not a guess on my part. Yes, I know that you know my thoughts even before I think them. Yes, I do. Nevertheless, it is my joy to listen to you. I like to hear your thoughts. So, tell me your thoughts. I value your thoughts and words. When I say, I value them, I mean that nothing is of higher value to me than your word. I hope my life demonstrates my belief. How so? Well, I am richly receiving your word into my heart and mind and life on a daily basis. I have set aside a time and a place to meet with you in your word. I am allowing your word to dwell in me richly. You have my full attention. I am listening very carefully to everything you have to say to me. Yes, you are and that is very good. Your life does demonstrate that my word is of the highest value to you. For that, I am very thankful.

Does it trouble you knowing that many of my followers spend very little time in my word? Does it concern you that many of my followers are not allowing my word to work in them? Yes, it does. I think it is a trick and trap of the devil to try to convince your followers that receiving your word is not all that important. What is most troubling and concerning to you about my followers not spending time meeting with me in my word? You use your word to mold and shape. You use your word to guard and guide. You use your word to teach and train. You use your word to strengthen and empower. You use your word change hearts and transforms minds. I don’t know how you can do these things apart from your followers receiving your word. Although, I do know that with you all things are possible. That’s true. I wouldn’t want my life with you to be short circuited by my not meeting with you and receiving your word. I would not wish that to be the case in anyone else’s life either. No, you wouldn’t and that is very good. Keep on praying. Keep on writing. Keep on proclaiming my word. Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, I want you to be able to do your work in me. I know that one of the most vital and important tools you use to work in my life is your word. Therefore, I will make sure I am richly receiving your word into my life day by day as I love, follow and serve you. Amen

Received The Word

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Gratitude – 1 Thessalonians 2:13 – Received The Word – Growing As Disciples

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV)

Received

That is a very important word. What’s that? Received, is a very important word. How so? I will ask you a few questions to help you understand the importance of the word, received. Go ahead, I’m listening. It is very good that you are listening. Here are my questions. How are you receiving my word into your life? How has receiving my word into your life allowed me to use my word to work in your life? How have I used my word to change your heart, transform your mind and guide your life? How are your thoughts, words and deeds different because my word has been working in you? How has the entire course of your life changed because my word has been working in you? What will happen to your life if you do not continue to receive my word into it? You have asked a lot of questions. You can start answering them now.

I will start by answering your first and last questions. That’s great. I am meeting with your word. I have set apart a time and a place to meet every day with you in your word. I am meditating on your word day and night. I am letting your word dwell in me richly. How so? I am reading your word. I am studying your word. I am meditating on and memorizing your word. I am praying your word. I am proclaiming your word to others. I am taking a firm hold of your word so that it takes a firm hold of me. What do you mean by that? Well, in every way possible I am receiving your word into my life and then I am putting it into practice as I love, follow and serve you. That is very good. What would happen if you didn’t receive my word into your life and then put into practice? That was your last question. Yes, it was. Your working in my life will be hindered and short circuited if I don’t receive your word into my life and then put it into practice. That’s true.

What kind of work has my word been doing in you? Your word has been changing my heart, transforming my mind and guiding my life. How so? Your word has broken me free from bondages that once entangled my life. Your word has made me able to stand against evil and resist temptation. Your word has given me new thoughts to think, words to speak and deeds to do. Your word has set me on fire to want to know and do your will. Your word has given me a passion to want to do what is pleasing to you. Your word has changed the entire course of my life. Yes, it has.  Keep on receiving my word into your life. Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your word. Daily I am receiving your word into my life. Use your word to do your work in my life. Use your word to change my heart, transform my mind and guide my life. Thank you for molding and shaping me with your word. Amen

Key Question… How are your thoughts, words, and deeds different because God’s word has been working in you?

Living It Out… Give thanks to God that as you receive His word into your life it is doing His work in you.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that God’s word will do its work in you as you receive it into your life.

To Work In You

The Word Centered Life - Day 15 - 1 Thessalonians 2-13 - To Work In You - Growing As Disciples

The Word Centered Life – Day 15 – 1 Thessalonians 2-13 – To Work In You – Growing As Disciples

Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God—which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NLT)

Work In You

Do you want me to work in you? Do you want me to change your heart? Do you want me to transform your mind? Do you want me to guide your life? Do you want me to mold and shape you into the person that I have called you to become? Do you want to be able to know and do my will? Do you want to be able to resist temptation and stand against evil? Do you want me to use you as a powerful witness in this world? Would you like to bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name? You have asked me many questions that all have the same answer from me. What is your answer? My answer is, “yes” to every one of your questions. I want all these things to be true in my life. I don’t want to miss the mark or fall short on any of these questions. That is very good.

What must I do? What is my part? What is my role? How can I be sure that all these things will be true in my life? Now, it is you that are asking good questions. It is good that you know that you will have a very important role in these things being true in your life. You will need to be a very active participant in my doing my work in your life. You can help or hinder or even thwart or reject my work in you. It is my desire and goal to welcome your work in me. That is where you need to start. Your desire for my work to continue in you is critically important. Even that desire in me has come from you to me as a gift. I can take no credit for the desire I have for you to do your work in me. That is true. You must allow that desire to take action. What action must I take?  You must accept and receive my word in you. You must take my word deeply into your heart and mind and life. You must hunger and thirst for my word. You must meditate on my word day and night. You must allow my word to dwell in you richly. You must grab ahold of my word and allow it to grab ahold of you. It is my word that will do its work in you. All you hope to be and all you hope to do in life, for me, will be empowered by my word. My word will mold and shape you. My word will guard and guide you. My word will help you to be able to know and do my will. All my purposes and plans for your life will be accomplished as you continue to allow my word to work in you. That I will do, I will allow your word to work in me. That will be very good.

Lord, thank you for your word. I will continue to receive your word into my life. Keep on using your word to do your work in me.  Help me to share your word with others so that they also will come to know and love and follow and serve you with all their hearts. Amen

Key Question…  How are you making it your daily practice to receive the word of God into your life?

Living It Out…  Receive God’s word into your life so that it will continue to do its work in you.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that the word of God will continue to work in you as you accept it into your life.

Received The Word Of God

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - 1 Thessalonians 2:13 - Knowing God - Received The Word Of God - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – 1 Thessalonians 2:13 – Knowing God – Received The Word Of God – Growing As Disciples

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV)

At Work In You

My word is at work in you. You can be sure of that. How is your word at work in me? How can I be certain that your word is working in me? You have been receiving my word. You are taking my word into your heart and mind. You have been studying my word. You have been meditating on my word. You have been memorizing my word. You have been putting my word into practice. It is obvious to me that you consider my word to be worth far more than any other words that you will hear in life. Why is that so obvious? You have been listening attentively to my word. You are hiding my word in your heart. My word is constantly on your mind. You have been seeking my word as if it were more valuable than silver or gold. Your word is more valuable than silver and gold. Yes it is. You have also been putting my word into practice. You cannot receive my word into your life so fully and not have it powerfully working in your life. My word is living and active and powerful. Yes, it is. My word will accomplish my purposes and plans in your life. Yes, it will. I believe what you are saying to me with all my heart.

Haven’t you noticed how my word has been changing you? You don’t need to answer that question. You can have a seat and take a rest. I will tell you how my word has been powerfully working in your life. I would like that a lot. Your thoughts are changing. Your thoughts have been coming into alignment with my thoughts. I have been renewing and transforming your mind with my word. You are thinking thoughts that are pleasing to me. Yes, I am. Your heart is changing. Your desires are coming into alignment with my desires. You want to do my will. Actually it is your delight to do my will. Yes, it is. You are setting aside old thoughts and desires. Your old thoughts and desires are being replaced with thoughts and desires that are pleasing to me. Yes, they are. You are coming to know me better every day. Your love for me is growing more passionate every day. Your faith in me is growing stronger every day. Isn’t this all true? Yes Lord, you have been completely changing my heart and mind and life with your word. Your word has been powerfully working in me. Lets also remember that my word is powerfully working through you. As you have been remaining in my word you have been bearing an abundance of fruit for my kingdom. You have been bringing glory to my name. Now are you certain that my word is at work in you? Now do you believe that my word has been working through you? Yes Lord, I am certain. Yes Lord, I believe in you. Let your word continue to do your work in and through me. It will. Continue in my word.

Lord, your word is far more valuable than any other words I will hear. I welcome your word into my life. I will study and meditate on it. I will memorize and put your word into practice. Use your word to help me to know you better. Grow my faith with your word. Amen

The Word God Which Is At Work In You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - God's Word - 1 Thessalonians 2-13 - The Word God Which Is At Work In You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Word – 1 Thessalonians 2-13 – The Word God Which Is At Work In You – Growing As Disciples

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV)

Receive My Word

Why is my word worthy to receive into your life? You are God. I am not. Your thoughts are so much higher than mine. You are all wise and powerful. I am not. You know the future. I do not. You made me. You know what is best for me. I do not. You know the direction I should walk in life. I do not. I desperately need all your guidance. I want all your help. You are ready, willing and able to help me. Yes, I am. That is why your word is worthy to receive into my life.

Will you receive my word into your life? Your word is more valuable to me than silver or gold. I will prize your word. I will pursue your word. I will hunger and thirst for your word. I will listen attentively to all that you have to say to me. I will meditate on your word. I will memorize your word. I will hide your word in my heart. I will keep your word on my mind. I will pray your word. I will declare your word. I will claim your word. I will hold on to your word. I will put your word into practice in all that I think, say and do. I will let your word guide the course of my life as I love, follow and serve you. Yes, you will. That is how I will receive your word into my life.

What has my word done in you as you have received it in your life? Your word has revived me. Your word has refreshed me. Your word has strengthened me. You have used your word to change my heart. You have used your word to transform my mind. Your word has allowed me to think your thoughts. You word has strengthened me to walk in your ways. You word has been like a sword to fight in me, with me and for me. You word has made me able to stand against evil. Your word has made me able to resist temptation. It has been my delight to hear you speaking to me in and through your word. It has been my joy to meet with you in your word. Your word has taught me. Your word has trained me. Your word has molded and helped my life. Your word has helped me to be a witness for you in the world. In every way you are using your word to make me more like you. Yes, I am. This is what your word has done for me as I have received it into my life. My work will continue in you as you receive my word into your life.

Lord, I believe in your word. I enthusiastically welcome your word into my life. I will meditate on and memorize your word. I will put your word into practice. Use your word to change my heart and transform my mind. Guide all I think, say and do by your word. Amen

At Work In You Who Believe

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 220 - 1 Thessalonians 2:13- At Work In You Who Believe - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 220 – 1 Thessalonians 2:13- At Work In You Who Believe – Growing As Disciples

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV)

Receive The Word

Are you receiving my word?  I’m not positive that I know exactly what you mean. But I think that I am. Tell me what it means for you to receive my word? I had a feeling that you were going to ask me that question. Receiving your word begins with an attitude in my heart and mind. My attitude toward your word demonstrates the value I place on it in my life. To me, your word is more valuable than silver or gold. What do you mean by that? I spend a lot of time taking your word into my life. I meditate on it. I memorize it. I pray it. I think about your word all the time. The value of silver or gold or money does not rival or remotely come close to the value I place on your word. Why do you place such a high value on my word? Your word is how you speak into my life. I want to hear from you. I want to know you. I want to love you. I want to follow and serve you. None of this would be possible without your word. No, it would not. Can you say more? Your word is what you use to change my heart and transform my mind. I know that my thoughts are not your thoughts. I know that my ways are not your ways. Your thoughts and ways are so much higher and better than mine. As I meditate on your word you are using it to work in me. How so? Your word changes my thoughts. Your word brings my heart and mind into alignment with you. If I discover that one of my thoughts or ways is not consistent with yours then I know that it is time for me to change my thought or way. Is that all? No, there is much more. Not only does your word show me your thoughts and your ways, it also gives me the power and strength to follow and obey you. Your word helps me to withstand temptation. Your word gives me strength in trials. Do you know why my word is able to strengthen you against temptations and makes you able to stand in trials? Yes, I do. Your Holy Spirit takes your word and uses it to fight in me, with me, and for me. Your word is like a sword in the hand of the Holy Spirit. Yes, it is.

What am I doing in you with my word right now? You are using your word to bear fruit in and through my life for your kingdom and your glory. How am I doing that? You are allowing me to tell others about you and your word. You are using me to proclaim your word. Just as you have allowed me to hear your word, so also do you want others to be able to hear your word. Yes, I do. Keep on hearing, receiving and accepting my word as you proclaim it to others. Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, thank you for allowing me to hear, accept and believe in your word. Continue to do your work in me with your word. Keep on changing my heart and transforming my mind with your word. Mold and shape my life according to your word. Amen

At Work In You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Prayer - 1 Thessalonians 2:13 - At Work In You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Prayer – 1 Thessalonians 2:13 – At Work In You – Growing As Disciples

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV)

Believe In My Word

What will you do with my word if you truly do believe in it? There is no, “if” about it. I truly and fully do believe in your word. I will receive your word into my life because I do believe in it. What do you believe about my word? I believe that your word is true. I believe that your word is powerful. I believe that your word is valuable. There is nothing more true than your word. There is nothing more powerful than your word. There is nothing more valuable than your word. You will use your word to do your work in my life. You will mold and shape me by your word. You will guard and guide me with your word. You will use your word to change my heart and transform my mind. It is your word that will make me able to think your thoughts and walk in your ways. I can see that you truly and fully do believe in my word.

How will you go about continually receiving my word into your life? I will set aside a daily time and special place to meet with you in your word. I will quiet myself before you. I will listen attentively to everything that you have to say to me. That will be very good. Say more about how you will receive my word into your life. I will read your word. I will study your word. I will meditate on your word. I will memorize your word. I will pray your word. I will teach you word. I will put your word into practice. That will be very good.

Say more about how you will pray my word. I will pray that I will fully receive your word into my heart and mind and life. I will turn the promises of your word into the thoughts of my mind and the prayers of my heart. That will be very good. What about others? How will you pray for others? Those are two very good questions. Why is that? Others prayed for me. Others prayed that I would come to believe and receive your word into my life. Just as others prayed for me, so I will pray for others. I will pray that others will come to know the truth and value and power of your word working in their lives. I will pray that others will quiet themselves before you so that they can hear everything you want to say to them. That will be very good. Keep on believing and receiving my word into your heart and mind and life. Keep on praying for others. Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, it is one thing to say I believe in your word. It is a whole other thing to continually receive your word into my life. Continually receiving your word into my life demonstrates that I really do believe in your word. Use your word to do all your work in my life. Amen

Amen

At Work In You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Transformation – 1 Thessalonians 2:13 – At Work In You – Growing As Disciples

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV)

Are You Listening?

Are you listening? Would you say that you are a good or poor listener? That depends on who is talking. I’ve been told that I am not that great of a listener. Why is that? My attention span is not real long. I get bored easily and become quite distracted. There are plenty of times that I would rather be the one talking than the one listening.

How about listening to me, how well do you listen to me? That’s a good question that is hard for me to answer. Why is that? I don’t think that I’m a very good judge of how well I listen to you. I know that I can become impatient and not wait to listen to all that you have to say to me. Listening to you is a commitment that requires real discipline. What do you mean by that? It is very easy for me to race through life and never sit down to take time to listen to you. I’ve hardly ever been able to hear you speaking to me over the noise and busyness of my life. I’ve found that you usually speak with a quiet voice in moments of stillness that I spend with you in your word. You never seem to shout out to me over the noise of the crowd. There have been many times when you have brought my life to a complete stop so that I could hear from you. How have you liked that? Not much, those “complete stops” of yours are usually pretty uncomfortable. Is that an understatement? Yes, it is. I would rather listen to you attentively in the first place. I’m not complaining though, those “complete stops” of yours, although painful, have gotten my attention and helped me to listen to you. Yes, they have.

How will you know if you are really listening to me? I suppose the real judge of my listening will be how well I put into practice what you are asking of me. If I follow and obey you then that seems like a good sign that I have listened to you. Yes, it is.

Is listening to me becoming easier or harder for you to do? At one time I thought I had so much to say. It was much harder to listen. Now, I hunger and thirst for you and your word. It is my joy to hear, accept, receive and believe all that you are saying to me. Why is that? When I’m really listening to you I know that you are working in and through my life. Yes, I am. I welcome you to do anything and everything in and through me that you have in your plans for me. So, here I am, listening attentively to you. Yes, you are.

Lord, thank you for helping me to receive, hear, accept, and believe your word. Your word is transforming who I am and all I do. It is my delight to allow your word to be at work in me. Use me to proclaim your word to others so it can be at work in them. Amen
