Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – 365 Days Of Guidance – Day 35 – 1 Timothy 4:15-16 – All May See Your Progress – Growing As Disciples

Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.  1 Timothy 4:15-16 (ESV)

Progress

Do you want to make progress in your faith? How would I define progress in my faith? What would progress in my faith look like? That’s a very good question that I want you to think about and answer. Why is that? I want you to tell me what you want. Why is that? It’s important for you to know what you want. Why is that? You can’t have what you don’t desire and do not want. Clarifying to yourself what you really want will give you desire. When you really desire something, you will pursue it. When you really desire something, you will keep on asking me for it as you pursue it with all your heart and mind and soul and strength. Are you asking me, “what do I really want?” Yes, I am.

I want to know you. I want to live in an intimate relationship with you. I want to be able to hear your voice. I want you to hear my voice. You want to have conversations with me? Yes, I want to live in an ongoing dialogue with you. I want to know your will. I want to live and walk in your ways. I want to be fully devoted to you. How will you go about doing that? I’m not positive. I do have some ideas. Let me hear your ideas. I will immerse myself in your word. I will meditate on your word day and night. I will let your word change my heart and transform my mind. I will put your word into practice in my life. I will think, say, and do what your word instructs me to think, say, and do. I will leave behind any thought, word, or action that is not consistent with your word. That will be very good. What else? I will offer myself to you as a living sacrifice. What do you mean by that? I will do whatever you ask of me. I will use the gifts that you have given to me. I will go and do the ministry that you have given me to do for you. I will allow you to bear fruit in and through my life. I will allow you to use me for your glory. That will also be very good. Anything else? As I walk with you, live in dialogue with you, and serve you, I will be on guard. On guard against what? I will be on guard against drifting away or getting off track. I will make sure that my life and ministry keep on track with you. I will watch my life. I will watch my ministry. I will make sure that my life and ministry remain faithful and fully devoted to you. Yes, and you will know me. You will know my will and walk in my ways. You will have what you desire from me. You will hear from me. I will hear from you. You will remain faithful, and you will grow in your faith.

Lord, I am fully devoted to you. It is the desire of my heart to grow in my relationship with you. I want to know you, your will, and your ways. I will immerse myself in your word. I will throw myself in the ministry you have given to me. Use me for your glory. Amen

Key Question…  How are you immersing yourself in God’s word so that you will grow and progress in your faith?

Be Diligent In These Matters

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ - Day 263 - 1 Timothy 4:15-16 - Be Diligent In These Matters - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 263 – 1 Timothy 4:15-16 – Be Diligent In These Matters – Growing As Disciples

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 Timothy 4:15-16 (NIV)

Make Progress

That is what I want to do. What do you want to do? I want to make progress as one of your followers. That is a very good desire. What kind of progress do you want to make? I want to grow in knowing and loving and following and serving you. I want to come to know you intimately. By that I mean personally, as well. For example, I have no desire to only know about you. Why is that? Seeking to only know about you seems like an inoculation against the real thing. What is the real thing? Knowing and loving and following and serving you is the real thing. It is the real deal. It is not fake. It is not phony. I don’t want to exchange only knowing about you for actually knowing you. There is a world of difference between the two. Yes, there is, you are quite right about that.

What do you hope to become as you come to know me? What do you desire to do as you come to know me? Those two questions get to the heart of the issue. Knowing you will cause me to love and follow and serve you. Knowing you will change my heart and transform my mind. Knowing you will help me to know and do your will. There is one burning desire that I have that is part of knowing you. What is that? I want to become like you. Only knowing you will make me able to think your thoughts, speak your words and do your deeds. I want to live a life that closely resembles yours. I want your light and life and love to flow in and through me. I want to be a bright and bold witness for you in the world. I want my life to point others to you. I want others to come to know and love and follow and serve you because they have seen your life being lived out in and through me. How is that for a bold desire and request? Could I ask for anything better? Could I want anything more? I don’t think so. What will this coming true in your life be called? I would call it progress, wouldn’t you? Yes, I would. I want my progress of knowing and loving and following and serving you to be evident and obvious to all so that a multitude are drawn to you through the witness of my life. That is my prayer. That is my hope. That is my desire. I will hear and answer this hope and desire and prayer of yours. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will be diligent. I will be disciplined. I will be serious. I will give myself wholly to growing and making spiritual progress as one of your followers. Help me to be vibrant. Help me to be fully alive. Use my life as a bright and bold witness for you in the word. Amen

Key Question… How are you giving yourself wholly and enthusiastically to growing as a follower of Jesus Christ?

Living It Out… Carefully watch your life and doctrine so that you will remain a vibrant and effective witness for the Lord.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will help you to make spiritual progress that is evident and obvious to all.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how the vibrancy of your faith has drawn others to Christ.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you be diligent as a follower of Christ so that your progress will be evident and obvious to all.

See Your Progress

I know that you want to see progress in your life as you follow me. Yes, I do. What kind of progress would you like to see in your life? There are so many different ways that I want to see progress in my life. Name them to me.

I want to see progress in my knowing you. I want to live and walk in an intimate relationship with you. I want to be able to hear your voice speaking to me. I want to live each moment of every day in an ongoing conversation with you. I want to know your thoughts. I want to listen to your counsel. I want to know your will and purposes and plans. I want to pray the prayers that you have given me to pray.

I want to see progress in my loving you. I want to dwell in your presence and sit at your feet. I want to be fully devoted to you in everyway. I want to know your word and do your will. I want to love and worship you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. Everyday, I want to find and do what is pleasing in your sight.

I want to see progress in my following you. I want to go where you guide me to do what you ask of me. I want to have faith to do what only you can do in and through my life. I want to rely on your power and strength to work in and through me for your glory.

I want to see progress in my serving you. I want to fully utilize all the gifts, talents and abilities that you have given to me. I want to bear and abundance of fruit for your kingdom and glory. I want people to be drawn to you as you work in and through my life. I want you to use me to heal those who are hurting and to help those who are in need.

Do you believe that I will fulfill all these desires of your heart? Yes, I do. Do you believe that I will help you to know me? Yes, I do. Do you believe that I will help you to love me? Yes, I do. Do you believe that I will help you to follow me? Yes, I do. Do you believe that I will help you to serve me? Yes, I do. Why do you believe that I will do all of these things for you? I believe because I know that you are already helping me to know, love, follow and serve you. Yes, I am.

Lord, you have my full attention. My life is focused on knowing, loving, following and serving you. Use my life and the gifts that you have given to me for your kingdom and glory as I throw myself into the ministry you have given to me. Amen

Diligent

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Be - 1 Timothy 4:15-16 - Diligent - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Be – 1 Timothy 4:15-16 – Diligent – Growing As Disciples

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 Timothy 4:15-16 (NIV)

Give Yourself

What will you give yourself to in this life? What is an acceptable use of your time? What is worthy of your whole-hearted effort? How will you use the life that you have been given? What do you hope to accomplish? What do you want to achieve?  Where are you headed? Where will you go? What will you do? You have asked me a lot of questions. Do you think that I have the answers? Can I know the future? Can I see what is around the corner? Do I know what is coming next? Do, I have a road map that lays out each step of my life. Do I know what tomorrow will bring? No, I do not. You are the one who knows the answers to your questions. Yes, I do.

I would still like to try and answer some of your questions. Go ahead, I’m listening. I will give myself to following and serving you. Living my life with and for you is an acceptable use of my time. I will immerse myself in living the life that you have given me to live. I will love and follow and serve you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. I will give myself fully to coming to know you. I will walk with you. I will talk with you. I will listen attentively to all that you have to say to me. I will go where you guide me. I will do whatever you ask of me. I will diligently use all the gifts and talents and abilities that you have given to me. I will apply myself fully to knowing and doing your will. It is my prayer that I will accomplish your purposes and fulfilled your plans. It is my prayer that you will use me as your bright and shinning witness in the world. This is where I will go. This is what I will do. I will follow you to where ever I am headed. You know the future. You have the plan. You know my next steps. You have all the answers. My life is completely in your hands. I will trust you. I will walk with you. I will rely on you. Lead me to where you want me to go. Give me what you want me to do. I will follow you. That is very good.

Lord, thank you for giving me gifts, talents and abilities with which I can serve you. Help me to cultivate, develop and diligently use what you have given to me. I will immerse myself in following and serving you. Help me to be a witness for you in the world. Amen
