Trust In The Lord With All Your Heart

The Sacramental Life - Day 329 - Proverbs 3:5-8 - Trust In The Lord With All Your Heart - Growing As Disciples

The Sacramental Life – Day 329 – Proverbs 3:5-8 – Trust In The Lord With All Your Heart – Growing As Disciples

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;  in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.  Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.  This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Proverbs 3:5-8 (NIV)

Trust You

That is what I will do. What will you do? I will trust you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. I will trust you with all that is within me. Very well then, there is no problem. I wouldn’t say that. Why wouldn’t you say that? Well, it sometimes seems harder to trust in you than it is to rely on myself.  Really, have you had a good result when you have relied on yourself? Do you have a great track record of success when you have leaned on your own understanding? No, not at all, I have not had a good result or a great track record when I have relied on myself. In fact, relying on myself or being wise in my own eyes has usually met with disaster. Then what seems so easy about relying on yourself? That is a good question. I don’t know why I have ever thought relying on my own understanding or being wise in my own eyes has ever been a good idea. Taking such a course or implementing such a strategy has led me on a crooked path. I have bounced from one unproductive and unfruitful endeavor to another. I was wasted a great deal of time and energy following the course that I have laid out for myself. That is not good. I know. What would you like to do differently? I would like to live out my confession. I would like to rely fully on you. I would like to acknowledge you in all my ways. I would like to fear you and shun evil in every form. That will be very good. What will happen to your life as you trust in and acknowledge me fully? What will happen to you as you fear me and shun evil? I will live a fruitful and productive with and for you. I will walk a straight path to where you lead me. I will walk a straight path to do what you give me to do. My life will be filled with health to my body and nourishment to my bones. I will live the life that you have called me to live. Yes, you will and that will be very good. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will trust in you with all my heart. I will not rely on my own understanding. In all my ways I will acknowledge you. I will not be wise in my own eyes. I will fear you and shun evil. Lead me on a straight and fruitful path. Fill my bones and body with health. Amen

Trust In The Lord

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Prayer - Proverbs 3:5-8 - Trust In The Lord - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Prayer – Proverbs 3:5-8 – Trust In The Lord – Growing As Disciples

Trust Me

What would my life look like if I was not leaning on my own understanding? What would I be doing differently if I trusted you with all my heart? How do you know when you are leaning on your own understanding? When I try to figure everything out by myself that is a clear indication that I am leaning on my own understanding. What would you do if you decided that you were not going to try to figure everything out by yourself? I would ask you for help. I would ask for your wisdom. I would rely on your guidance. I would meet with you in prayer and listen more attentively to your voice. How would it help you to rely on my insight and guidance? I would not take so many missteps. I would not make so many mistakes. I would not so often go where I should not go or do what I should not do. I would better know your will. I would better walk in your ways. My life would have greater focus and a clearer direction. I would not bounce from one thing to another.  I would be more able to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Is that what you want? Yes, in every way I want to live the life that you are calling me to live. That is very good.

So, will you meet with me in prayer? Will you ask for my help? Will you ask for my wisdom? Will you seek my guidance? Before you answer my questions, I want you to consider what answering them affirmatively will require of you. I know the answer to that question. Let me hear your answer. If I am to rely on you and ask for your help, then I will need to let go of my pride. I must not be wise in my own eyes. I must not think that I have the answer to every question. I must not think that I can solve every problem.  I must learn to come to rely on you. I must give myself entirely to listening to you. I must learn to trust in you with all my heart. No longer will I rely on myself. That will be very good.

What will happen to you when you trust me with all your heart? I will no longer be in charge. I will allow you to lead my life. I will hear from you as I ask for your help. You will guide me. You will guard me. You will direct me on the path as I follow you. Following you will lead me away from evil. Following you will bring your health and healing and wholeness into my life. No longer, will I live under the anxiety and stress and pressure of trying to rely on myself. I will be able to recognize and acknowledge and give thanks for your activity in my life. Yes, you will. That will be very good.

Lord, often I have tried to figure things out on my own. I have relied on my own understanding. I would like all that to change. Instead, I will prayerfully trust in you with all my heart. Help me to recognize and acknowledge your activity in my life so I can follow you. Amen

Trust In The Lord

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - God's Will - Proverbs 3:5-8 - Trust In The Lord - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Will – Proverbs 3:5-8 – Trust In The Lord – Growing As Disciples

Lean On

I don’t want to lean on my own understanding. Why is that? I have made so many mistakes. I have taken so many missteps. I can’t tell you how many times I have had to stop and turn around and start all over because I have relied on my own understanding. You don’t need to tell me, I already know. The ways that I have chosen have led me on a zig zag path through life. I have gone from one thing to another. I have stopped. I have started. I have gone left and right. I have been frozen in place. I have raced on ahead. All in all, I have wasted a lot of time. I have burned up a lot of my energy. I have been unproductive and unfruitful. I thought that I was wise. But now, I know that I am not. That’s very good.

What else? Not only have I wasted time and energy. I have filled my life full of worry. If you are the one in charge of your own life, then you have good reason to worry. Why is that? You just told me. Your track record of success when you are under your own leadership is dismal, isn’t it? Yes, it is. Are you ready to give up? Are you ready to accept new leadership? Will you place yourself under new management? Will you follow me to where I lead you? Will you do whatever I ask of you? Yes, I will follow and serve you. My life is in your hands. I will no longer lean on my own understanding. I will place all my trust in you. I will acknowledge your leadership over my life now and forever. That’s very good.

You will also have something new as you follow me to where I lead you and do all that I ask of you. What’s that? You will have my peace and joy and hope and health, all because you will know that I am leading you on a good and straight path. You will know that your life is not a waste. You will know that I am helping you to bear fruit for my kingdom. You will know that you are bringing glory to my name. That is my hope and prayer. That is what I have always wanted. That is what you will have as you follow me.

Lord, so often I have relied on my own understanding rather than placing my trust in you. I have walked a crooked path that zigged and zagged throughout life. Forgive me. Now, I will trust in you, so that you can guide my steps and bring health into my life. Amen
