Be Still And Know That I Am God

The Prayer Filled Life - Day 74 - Psalm 46:10 - Be Still And Know That I Am God - Growing As Disciples

The Prayer Filled Life – Day 74 – Psalm 46:10 – Be Still And Know That I Am God – Growing As Disciples

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

Be Still

That isn’t as easy as it sounds. That does not come naturally to me. What does not come easy or naturally to you? Being still is very difficult for me. Why is that? I like to be busy. I like to be on the go. I like to get things done. That is worldly thinking. That is a dangerous deception. Those are misplaced priorities. How so? Let me ask you a few questions. I’m listening. How well do you think you will come to know me if you don’t spend time with me? How well will you receive my guidance and follow my instructions if you don’t listen to me? What is of higher priority to you than living in an intimate relationship with me? At the end of your life would you rather be able to say that you came to know me intimately or that you got a high percentage of your daily, “to do lists” done? Ordering my life around a series of “to do lists” would be a ridiculous choice. You think so? I do, think so. Well then, why have you raced through life trying to accomplish your “to do lists” and failed to meet with me. That is a very good question. I am glad that you think so. How often have you really quieted yourself before me so that you could come to know me? Hasn’t the busyness and demands and noise of this world tried to keep you from coming to know me intimately? I see your point. I see the foolishness of my thinking. I can see that I have had misplaced priorities. That’s good. That’s wise. That’s true.

How would you like to live your life differently? What are you going to do to reorder your priorities? My number one priority is to come to know you. There is no close second. So, I will set aside a daily time and place to meet with you. I will quiet myself before you. I will be still so that I can come to know you. I will listen to your voice. I will follow you to where you lead me. I will do what you ask of me. I will live the life that you are calling me to live. No longer will I allow the world to distract me from coming to know and love and follow and serve you. That will be very good.

Heavenly Father, it is my desire to know you intimately. I want to hear your voice guiding me through life. Every day, I will set aside a time and place to meet with you. I will withdraw from the demands and busyness of this life. I will quiet myself before you. Amen

Key Question…  Why is it critically important for you to set aside a time and place to be still before God?

Know That I Am God

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Knowing God - Psalm 46:10 - Know That I Am God - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Knowing God – Psalm 46:10 – Know That I Am God – Growing As Disciples

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”   Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

Be Still

Do you want to know me? Do you want to live in an intimate relationship with me? Do you want to know my will? Do you want to walk in my ways? Yes, I want to know you intimately. That is the desire of my heart. I hunger to know you. I thirst to know you. My heart aches with desire to know and love you. There is nothing else in all of life that I want more than to know and love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. That is very good. I want you to know me. That is my desire for you. We both want the same thing. You want to know me. I want you to know me.

How do you think that you will come to know me? What will be required of you if you really do want to come to know me? I’m not sure what you mean. If it were your goal to come to know someone what would you do? I would spend time with them. It really would not be possible to know someone without spending time with them. That’s right. How much time would you spend if you really wanted to know someone intimately? Would once a month be enough? No, certainly not. I would never come to know someone intimately at that rate. How about once a week, would that be enough? I doubt it. If I really wanted to know someone intimately I would want to meet with them every day. When you met with the person that you wanted to know intimately would just being around them be enough for you to come to know them intimately? No, if I really wanted to know someone intimately I would need to give them my undivided attention. Yes, that’s right. Do you see where our conversation is headed? Yes, I do. If I want to come to know you intimately I will need to set aside a time and a place to meet with you everyday. When we meet together I will need to be still and give you my undivided attention. Why do you think that is so important? I need to learn to listen attentively to you so that I can hear all that you want to say to me. I need to learn to pay close attention so that I can see all that you want to show me. Yes, I will help you to learn to listen to all that I want you to hear. I will help you to learn to see all that I want to show you.

Will you come to me? Will you meet with me at a specific time in a quiet place? Will you be still before me? Will you give me your undivided attention? Will you listen to all that I want to say to you? Will you pay close attention to all that I want to show you? Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, here I am. I have removed myself from the hectic pace and busyness of life. I have set aside this time and quiet place to meet with you. My ears are open to hear all that you want to say to me. My eyes are open to see all that you want to show me. Amen

Still – Know

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Rhythms - Psalm 46:10 - Still - Know - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Rhythms – Psalm 46:10 – Still – Know – Growing As Disciples

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

Come To Me

It’s time to slow down. Take a time out. Come to me. Rest in my presence. Be quiet and still before me. You have had places to go. You have had things to do. You have let the busyness and noise of the world crowd me out of your life. You are dry and weary. You are hungry and thirsty. Return to me. Draw near to me and I will draw near to you. I will refresh you. I will revive you. I will restore your soul. Take a deep breath. Relax and rest in my presence. I will feed your hunger. I will satisfy your thirst.

I have heard your call. Forgive me for my distance. Forgive me for my independence. I have wandered away from you. I pursued the world and all that it has to offer. I have been overtaken by the noise and busyness of life. I have let myself become dry and weary. My life has become barren. I have accomplished a lot of nothing as I have pursued my own purposes and plans. I want you and the life you have for me. There is no place I would rather be than in your presence. There is nothing I would rather do than meet with you. That sounds very good.

I see your desire. I know your intentions. I hear your words. Do you have a plan? When will you set a time to meet with me? Where will you set apart as a place to meet with me? I know why you are asking me these questions. My desire and intentions and words are not enough. I have had good desires, great intentions and words of commitment to meet with you. I have not followed through. I have been distracted. I have been diverted. Something else has always grabbed my time and intention. Forgive me for that. I regret that I have done what was urgent and failed to do what was important. No more. Not now. Not ever again. I will set a time and a place to meet with you. That will be very good.

Why do you want to meet with me? Why will you set a time and a place to meet with me? Be very clear in your heart and mind about these questions and your answers. Don’t lightly consider them. Don’t easily pass over them. Your answers will determine the course of your life. You are my Savior and Lord. I want to know you. I want to love you. I want to serve you. I want to live my life entirely for you. In every way I want to do what pleases you. I want my life to be act of worship. I will bow myself down before you. I will come to listen to you. I will do whatever you ask of me. I want you to be lifted up and exalted by all that I think, say and do. I want to be your witness in the world. That is why I will come to you. That is very good.

Lord, my life has been filled with the noise and busyness of the world. I need to slow down and come to a full stop. Help me to rest in your presence. Help me to be still before you. Open up your word and speak to me so I can come to know you. Amen

Be Still

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Be - Psalm 46:10 - Still - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Be – Psalm 46:10 – Still – Growing As Disciples

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

Invitation

You have my invitation. I am calling you to come to me. Rest in my presence. Leave the noise and busyness of your hectic life. Learn from me. Come to know me. Hear my thoughts. Listen to my voice. Let me teach you. Allow me to train you. I will mold and shape your life. I will lead you. I will guard and guide your life. My hand will be on you. You will come to know me. You will walk in my ways. You will accomplish my purposes and fulfill my plans for your life. You will be able to know and do my will.

There is no place I would rather be than in your presence. There is nothing I would do than to come to listen to you. I will leave the noise and busyness of my hectic life. That is no difficult sacrifice for me to make. Coming to know you is the desire of my heart. Nothing would thrill me more than to be able to know and do your will. Only you can make me able to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. Only you can make me fruitful for your kingdom. Only you can help me to bring glory to your name. So, I will accept your invitation. I will come to sit before you. I will rest in your presence. I will be still before you so that I can come to know that you are God. You are my God. You are my King. You are my Savior and Lord. You are worthy of all my praise and honor and glory. You are worthy of all time. You are worthy of receiving all that I am, have and hope to be. Yes, I am. Ask me whatever you will. I will say yes to whatever you ask of me. Here I am now, sitting here in your presence. This is a very good place. It is quiet. It is still. It is calm. I am ready to listen. I am ready to receive all that you have for me. I am ready for you to mold and shape my life. I am ready for you to strengthen and sustain and encourage me through all the ups and downs and twists and turns of life. I will hold on to you as I walk with you through life. Guard and guide my life as I follow you. Direct me to where you want me to go. Give me what you want me to do. Thank you for calling me to come to you. Thank you for your invitation to come to know you.

Heavenly Father, there is no place I would rather be than in your presence. There is nothing I would rather do than to be still before you. Help me to come to know you as I sit still before you. Strengthen, sustain and encourage me as I rest in your presence. Amen
