As He Had Always Done

The Prayer Filled Life - Day 72 - Daniel 6:10 - As He Had Always Done - Growing As Disciples

The Prayer Filled Life – Day 72 – Daniel 6:10 – As He Had Always Done – Growing As Disciples

But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. Daniel 6:10 (NLT)

A Pattern

Is this what you want? Would you like this to be a pattern in your life? Would you like to be like Daniel? Would you like to meet with me in prayer? Would you like to live in an ongoing and intimate relationship with me? Would you like to be able to know and do my will? Would you like to know where I am leading you? Would you like to know what I am asking of you? Would you like to remain in me so that you can bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name? Would you like to be a bold and bright witness for me in the world? Would you like to be sustained and strengthened through the difficult days and trying times that are part of this life? Would you like to set aside times throughout your day for us to meet in prayer? That is the key isn’t it. What is the key? Meeting with you in prayer is the answer to all your questions. If I want to live in and ongoing and intimate relationship with you, I will meet with you in prayer. If I want to hear your voice guiding me through life, I will meet with you in prayer. If I want to know where you are guiding me and what you are asking of me, I will meet with you in prayer. If I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name, I will meet with you in prayer. If I want to be sustained and strengthened through all the difficult and trying times in life, I will meet with you in prayer. You understand your need to meet with me in prayer quite well. Yes, I guess, I do.

Will you meet with me in prayer, at times, throughout your day? Will you go deep with me in prayer? Will you become a prayer warrior? Will you allow me to teach and train you in prayer? Will you live a full life of prayer with me? There is no place I would rather be than in your presence. There is nothing I would rather do than meet with you in prayer. There is no better choice I could make than to live in an intimate relationship with you. So yes, I will meet with you in prayer at times throughout my day. Let’s begin today. Let’s begin right now, at this very moment. That will be very good.

Lord, I want to live in an intimate relationship with you. I want to abide in you. I want to rely on you. I want to hear your voice guiding and guarding me through life. I want to be able to know and do your will. I will set aside daily times to meet with you in prayer. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Prayer – Daniel 6:10 – As He Had Done Before – Growing As Disciples

Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. Daniel 6:10 (NIV)

Time And Place

Here I am Lord. This is the time. This is the place. What do you mean by saying this is the time and this is the place.? I have always wanted to meet with you in prayer. I always thought that I would develop a regular, daily pattern of meeting in prayer with you. What happened? Nothing, happened. I had good intentions. Every day I thought that some time would open up and we would be able to talk together in prayer. But, time never opened up. The demands and busyness of life filled up every moment of my day. There was never a good time to meet with you in prayer. I noticed. That’s not good. I agree. That is why I am saying now is the time and this is the place when and where I will set aside to meet with you in prayer. I’m making meeting with you in prayer a priority in my life. Let me correct that statement. Go ahead. I am making meet with you in prayer the priority of my life. Why is that? I have no higher priority than to live in an intimate relationship with you. I want to talk with you. I want to listen to you. I want to live my life in a constant dialogue of prayer with you. That will be very good.

What do you want to talk about? That’s not where I really want to start in prayer. Where do you want to start in prayer? I want to start by listening to you. I want to hear your voice. I want to receive your guidance. I want to follow your instruction. I want to sit at your feet. I want to rest in your presence. This is a good place to start in prayer. I have no doubt about that. What do you want to say to me? It pleases me that you want to live in an intimate relationship with me. It brings joy to my heart to know that you are making your relationship with me the priority of your life. You will have what you want. What’s that? You want to live in an intimate relationship with me. You want to live your life in a constant dialogue of prayer with me. Yes, that’s right. Keep on coming to me. Keep on drawing near to me. Keep on praying to me in all the circumstances of life. Keep on seeking me with all your heart and mind and soul and strength then you will live and walk in an intimate relationship with me. Then I will lead you through all the difficult circumstances of life. I will keep praying to you. I will keep on seeking you. We will continue to meet in our time and place. That will be very good.

Lord, help me to develop a daily pattern of prayer that will continue through all the circumstances of life. Thank you, that I can pray to you today, tomorrow and all the next days of my life. I will ask for your help now and every day in the future as I follow you. Amen

As He Had Done Before

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Gratitude - Daniel 6:10 - As He Had Done Before - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Gratitude – Daniel 6:10 – As He Had Done Before – Growing As Disciples

When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously. Daniel 6:10 (ESV)

Decide To Pray

Do you have a place to pray? Do you have a time of prayer? Do you make it your regular practice to pray? Are you asking me if I have developed a daily pattern of prayer in my life? Are you asking me if prayer is the highest of priorities in my life? Are you asking me if prayer is a consistent and unchanging habit in my life? Are you asking me if I will pray through all the twists and turns and ups and downs of life, regardless of my circumstances? You understand my line of questioning. I want prayer to be the utmost priority in my life. I want prayer to be a consistent and unchanging daily habit in my life. I want to keep on praying no matter what my circumstances are in life. I want to pray when I am happy. I want to pray when I am sad. I want to pray when I am confident. I want to pray when I am fearful. I want to pray when I have great need. I want to pray when I am thankful for what you have done or for what you have given to me. How can praying to you become a consistent, continual and unchanging daily pattern in my life? That is a very good question.

If you want prayer to be a daily pattern in your life, set a time and pick a place to meet with me in prayer. Carve out a sacred space in your life that you will devote to our time together in prayer.  Does this sound too simple and easy? Is this something that you will quickly dismiss as being insignificant and unimportant? Are you looking for counsel that is somehow deeper and more dynamic? Don’t pass over my words. Don’t leave my words unapplied for another day. Consider deeply what I have said to you. You will only learn to pray by praying. You will only develop a pattern of prayer in your life by setting a time and place to meet with me. Don’t let the noise and busyness of life rob you of the time and opportunity to meet with me in prayer. You will only pray when you make time to pray. I get it. Will you meet with me in prayer? Will you set aside a time and place to meet with me in prayer? Yes Lord, I will. I have made my decision. I am deciding to pray. That is very good.

Lord, I will make prayer the utmost and highest priority in my life. I will set aside a sacred time and place to meet daily with you in prayer. I will not let the noise and busyness of life rob me of the time and opportunity to meet with you in prayer. Amen

He Got Down On His Knees

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - Daniel 6:10 - He Got Down On His Knees - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – Daniel 6:10 – He Got Down On His Knees – Growing As Disciples

Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. Daniel 6:10 (NIV)

On My Knees

Will you get down on your knees? Will you humble yourself before me? Will you make meeting with me in prayer, the priority of your life? Notice, I did not say a priority in your life. I noticed. Are you clear about what I am asking of you? Yes, I understand what you are asking of me. You are asking me if I will make meeting with you in prayer a priority, above all other priorities, in my life. Yes, I am. Do you believe that there is no better way for you to spend your time than in meeting with me in prayer? Yes, I am positive that there is no better way to spend my time than meeting with you in prayer. Then you have set aside a special time and place to meet with me in prayer, is that right? Yes, that is right, I have a special time and place to meet with you in prayer. Then you are spending a significant amount of time meeting with me in prayer, is that true? Well, I don’t know if that is completely true yet. What do you mean by that? I feel like I am just starting out in prayer. I am launching out into prayer with you. My journey in prayer with you is just beginning. My life with you in prayer now, is not what it will be in the future. You are correct. But, you are fully committed and completely convinced in your desire to meet with me in prayer? Yes, it is the desire of my heart to have a close and intimate relationship with you. I want to draw near to you, as you draw near to me. I want to be refreshed in your presence. I want to taste of your goodness. I want you to mold and shape my life as I meet with you in prayer. I want you guard and guide my life as I meet with you in prayer. I want you to develop my thoughts, form my words and empower my deeds as I meet with you in prayer. On every day and in every way, I want to live and walk in a dialogue of prayer with you. I want to be persistent and consistent as I meet with you in prayer. You will have these desires of your heart as you come to meet daily with me in prayer. For that I am completely grateful and fully thankful. That is very good.

Father, thank you that I can come to meet with you in prayer. Meeting with you has become a consistent, daily priority in my life. I have set apart a time and place to regularly meet with you. It is my joy to live my life with you in an ongoing dialogue of prayer. Amen
