As He Had Always Done

The Prayer Filled Life - Day 72 - Daniel 6:10 - As He Had Always Done - Growing As Disciples

The Prayer Filled Life – Day 72 – Daniel 6:10 – As He Had Always Done – Growing As Disciples

But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. Daniel 6:10 (NLT)

A Pattern

Is this what you want? Would you like this to be a pattern in your life? Would you like to be like Daniel? Would you like to meet with me in prayer? Would you like to live in an ongoing and intimate relationship with me? Would you like to be able to know and do my will? Would you like to know where I am leading you? Would you like to know what I am asking of you? Would you like to remain in me so that you can bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name? Would you like to be a bold and bright witness for me in the world? Would you like to be sustained and strengthened through the difficult days and trying times that are part of this life? Would you like to set aside times throughout your day for us to meet in prayer? That is the key isn’t it. What is the key? Meeting with you in prayer is the answer to all your questions. If I want to live in and ongoing and intimate relationship with you, I will meet with you in prayer. If I want to hear your voice guiding me through life, I will meet with you in prayer. If I want to know where you are guiding me and what you are asking of me, I will meet with you in prayer. If I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name, I will meet with you in prayer. If I want to be sustained and strengthened through all the difficult and trying times in life, I will meet with you in prayer. You understand your need to meet with me in prayer quite well. Yes, I guess, I do.

Will you meet with me in prayer, at times, throughout your day? Will you go deep with me in prayer? Will you become a prayer warrior? Will you allow me to teach and train you in prayer? Will you live a full life of prayer with me? There is no place I would rather be than in your presence. There is nothing I would rather do than meet with you in prayer. There is no better choice I could make than to live in an intimate relationship with you. So yes, I will meet with you in prayer at times throughout my day. Let’s begin today. Let’s begin right now, at this very moment. That will be very good.

Lord, I want to live in an intimate relationship with you. I want to abide in you. I want to rely on you. I want to hear your voice guiding and guarding me through life. I want to be able to know and do your will. I will set aside daily times to meet with you in prayer. Amen

Just As He Had Done Before

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 269 - Daniel 6:10-12 - Just As He Had Done Before - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 269 – Daniel 6:10-12 – Just As He Had Done Before – Growing As Disciples

Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.  Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help.  So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree: “Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or man except to you, O king, would be thrown into the lions’ den?” The king answered, “The decree stands–in accordance with the laws of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” Daniel 6:10-12 (NIV)

A Pattern

That is exactly what I need. What is it that you need? I need to develop a pattern of meeting with you in prayer. Why do you need to develop a pattern of meeting with me in prayer? My prayers will be occasional and hit or miss if I don’t develop a regular daily pattern of meeting with you in prayer. If I don’t set a daily time and place to meet with you in prayer it may never happen. Life is busy and hurried. Life is demanding and distracting. Life can cause me to place what might seem urgent over what is ultimately more important. I can think of nothing that is more important than setting aside a time and place to meet with you in prayer. What is your hope? What is your dream? What is your desire? What do you want to happen as you meet with me in prayer? I want to come to know you. I want to live in an intimate relationship with you. I want to live my life in a constant and ongoing dialogue of prayer, as I walk through life with you. So, setting a specific time and place to meet with you in prayer is just a starting point. I want that daily, specific time of prayer, to carry on throughout each of my days. Those are very good hopes, and dreams, and desires. I’m not finished. I’m just getting warmed up. Go on, I’m listening. I want to bow down and worship you. I want to give you thanks and praise for your kindness and mercy and love. I want to be able to hear your voice guarding and guiding me through life. I want to be able to know and do your will. I want to be able to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. I want to be able to pray prayers that you will hear and answer not only for my needs, but also for the needs of others. I want your kingdom to come down to earth. I want to hear and see you doing miracles that draw a multitude of people to you. I want your life to be living in and through me. I want to shine brightly for you like a star in the universe. You weren’t kidding, you were just getting warmed up. Yes, and if I have missed something, if I have left something out, I want you to show me and teach me how to pray. Finally, I want to store up treasure in heaven with you, as I bear fruit for your kingdom, and bring glory to your name. That is why I need to develop a pattern of meeting with you in prayer. Very well then, are you ready to start right now? Yes, I am. That is very good.

Lord, thank you for your kindness and mercy and love. You have been with me to help though all the twists and turns and ups and downs of life. You have sustained and strengthened and protected me. It is my joy and delight to meet with you daily in prayer. Amen

Key Question…  What pattern of prayer would you like to be a regular part of your life going forward from today?

Living It Out…  Develop a regular daily pattern of meeting with the Lord in prayer.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that the Lord will sustain, strengthen, and protect you as you live a life of prayer with Him.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group how you are developing a regular pattern of prayer with the Lord.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you develop a daily pattern of meeting with the Lord in prayer.

As He Had Done Before

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Prayer - Daniel 6:10 - As He Had Done Before - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Prayer – Daniel 6:10 – As He Had Done Before – Growing As Disciples

Time And Place

Here I am Lord. This is the time. This is the place. What do you mean by saying this is the time and this is the place.? I have always wanted to meet with you in prayer. I always thought that I would develop a regular, daily pattern of meeting in prayer with you. What happened? Nothing, happened. I had good intentions. Every day I thought that some time would open up and we would be able to talk together in prayer. But, time never opened up. The demands and busyness of life filled up every moment of my day. There was never a good time to meet with you in prayer. I noticed. That’s not good. I agree. That is why I am saying now is the time and this is the place when and where I will set aside to meet with you in prayer. I’m making meeting with you in prayer a priority in my life. Let me correct that statement. Go ahead. I am making meet with you in prayer the priority of my life. Why is that? I have no higher priority than to live in an intimate relationship with you. I want to talk with you. I want to listen to you. I want to live my life in a constant dialogue of prayer with you. That will be very good.

What do you want to talk about? That’s not where I really want to start in prayer. Where do you want to start in prayer? I want to start by listening to you. I want to hear your voice. I want to receive your guidance. I want to follow your instruction. I want to sit at your feet. I want to rest in your presence. This is a good place to start in prayer. I have no doubt about that. What do you want to say to me? It pleases me that you want to live in an intimate relationship with me. It brings joy to my heart to know that you are making your relationship with me the priority of your life. You will have what you want. What’s that? You want to live in an intimate relationship with me. You want to live your life in a constant dialogue of prayer with me. Yes, that’s right. Keep on coming to me. Keep on drawing near to me. Keep on praying to me in all the circumstances of life. Keep on seeking me with all your heart and mind and soul and strength then you will live and walk in an intimate relationship with me. Then I will lead you through all the difficult circumstances of life. I will keep praying to you. I will keep on seeking you. We will continue to meet in our time and place. That will be very good.

Lord, help me to develop a daily pattern of prayer that will continue through all the circumstances of life. Thank you, that I can pray to you today, tomorrow and all the next days of my life. I will ask for your help now and every day in the future as I follow you. Amen
