In My Prayers

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ - Day 351 - Ephesians 1:15-16 - In My Prayers - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 351 – Ephesians 1:15-16 – In My Prayers – Growing As Disciples

For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. Ephesians 1:15-16 (NIV)

Remembering Prayer

That is what I will do. That is what I want to do. That is what I will not fail to do. What will you do? What do you want to do? What will you not fail to do? I will give thanks for the fellow believers that you have brought into my life. Why is that? Where would I be without the encouragement I have received from my fellow believers? That is a very good question. That is a question you should reflect on and deeply consider. Now, I want to ask you why is that? Have I not spurred you on in your faith by the fellow believers I have brought into your life? Have I not picked you up off the carpet by the encouragement you have received from others? Yes, you have spurred me on, and picked me up by the encouragement I have received from fellow believers. There is something you have not yet said that I might as well confess up front. I’m sure that you want to have a fuller discussion on this topic. You are correct. There is another strong reason why I need to reflect on and deeply consider the encouragement and spurring on I have received from fellow believers. Yes, there is another very important reason I want you to consider. Do you want to say it, or do you want me to confess it? It would be far better for you to confess it. Alright, here goes. I have been somewhat of a loner. Somewhat? Alright, I have kept to myself. I have not shared my life fully with other believers. I have not asked for prayer, nor have I given thanks or prayed for others as fully as I am sure that you have desired. You want me to live and walk in a closer relationship with others. Yes, I do. You want me to both make and receive prayers. And the emphasis, at the moment, may be more on my being willing to receive prayer from others. You think? Yes, I am beginning to get this into my thick head. You want me to open up to receiving prayer from others. As I am willing to receive prayer from others, I am sure that I will also be more energetic in praying for them as well. That will be true without a doubt. So, what will you do? I will do two things. I will ask others how I can pray for them. I will ask others to pray for me. Prayer will become a two-way street in my life. I will make and receive prayers, as I live my life with and before you. That will be very good. In this way you will continue to both give and receive encouragement as you love, follow and serve me. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I give thanks to you for all the fellow believers you have brought into my life. You have encouraged and spurred me on by their faith. Help me to regularly intercede in prayer for the needs of others. Help me also to welcome and receive prayer from them. Amen

Fill You With Knowledge Of His Will

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Wisdom - Colossians 1:9-10 - Fill You With Knowledge Of His Will - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Wisdom – Colossians 1:9-10 – Fill You With Knowledge Of His Will – Growing As Disciples

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,  Colossians 1:9-10 (NIV)

Knowing Him

Is it your earnest desire to know me? Yes Lord, it is. At one time you just knew of me. Yes, and you used that little bit of knowledge to draw me to you. Yes, I did. Now, it isn’t enough for you to know of me, is it? No, it is not. Where do you think your desire to know me comes from? This burning desire in me to know you comes from you. It is your Holy Spirit living inside of me that is fanning the flame of my desire for you. Yes, that’s right.

How do you think you will grow to know me more intimately? First of all I know that we are in complete agreement on my desire to know you. What do you mean by that? You want me to know you. You will not hide yourself from me? No, I will not. As I walk with you through life you will continue to help me to know you. Yes, I will. When we talk together about all that I am experiencing in life I will grow to know you more intimately. Yes, you will. When I meet with you in your word, you will show yourself to me. I will come to more clearly understand your will and your ways. Yes, you will. You will help me to live in ways that are worthy of Christ. You will show me what pleases you. Yes, I will. It won’t be enough to know what pleases you. No, it will not. You will give me the power of your Holy Spirit to both know and do your will. Yes, I will. I could never know you or do your will with my own knowledge or strength. I will rely on your Holy Spirit to teach and guide me through life. It pleases me that you know that you cannot know, follow and serve me by your own human efforts.

Is there any other way that you can think of how you will grow to know me more intimately? Yes, there is one. Tell me about it. As I serve you, I will know you more intimately. You will use me to bear fruit for your kingdom and glory. Yes, I will. You will give me tasks that are too large for me to handle on my own. Yes I will, you can count on it. Those God sized assignments will cause me to rely on you for all your help. Yes, they will. That’s a very good thing. Yes, it is. As I rely on you to accomplish your purposes through my life, I will come to know you more intimately. Yes, you will.

Does knowing me, walking in my ways and being used by me sound easy to you? No, it does not. But, I am very thankful that you have given me the desire to know you despite the challenges that lie just ahead. I am ready to follow you wherever you lead me. That’s very good.

Lord, help me to know you. Fill me with the knowledge of your will. Give me spiritual wisdom and understanding. Help me to live a life that is pleasing to you. Bear fruit through my life. I’m praying this prayer for myself and for those you bring into my life. Amen

Know Him Better

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 172 - Ephesians 1:15-17 - Know Him Better- Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 172 – Ephesians 1:15-17 – Know Him Better – Growing As Disciples

For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,  I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. Ephesians 1:15-17 (NIV)

Know Me

Do you want to come to know me better? Do you want to come to know me intimately? Do you want others to come to know and love and follow and serve me? Yes, I want both myself and others to come to know and love and follow and serve you. I want to know you better. I want to know you more intimately. Nothing less for myself and for others is my hope and dream and desire. That is very good.

How do you suppose you and others will come to know and love and follow and serve me? How do you suppose you will come to know me intimately? What will you do if you want yourself and others to come to know me better? I will meet with you in prayer. I will pray consistent and persistent prayers for others. I will not quit. I will not give up. I will not relent. I will keep on praying the prayers that you give me to pray. That will be very good.

What else will you do as you consistently and persistently pray for others? I will receive your instruction.  I will follow your guidance. I will go where you guide me. I will do what you ask of me. I will love others just as you have loved me. I will give like you gave. I will serve like you served. I will follow your example. I will live the life that you lived. I will allow you to use me as your witness in the darkness of this world. I will allow you to make me to shine for you like a star in the universe. I will allow you to use me to spread the fragrance and knowledge of you everywhere. Then you will come to know me intimately. Then others will come to know and love and follow and serve me because they will see my life being lived out in and through you. I will make you able to bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. I welcome your work in and through me. That is very good. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I want to come to know you more intimately. I want others to come to know, love, follow and serve you as well. I am sure that both I and others will come to know you better as I am consistent and persistent in my prayers for them. I will keep on praying. Amen

Knowledge Of His Will

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - God's Will - Colossians 1:9-12 - Knowledge Of His Will - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Will – Colossians 1:9-12 – Knowledge Of His Will – Growing As Disciples

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. Colossians 1:9-12 (NIV)

Worthy Of Me

Living a life that is worthy of you. I know that I cannot accomplish that with my own efforts. If I tried my very hardest I would still live a life that is completely unworthy of you. Why is that? I make so many mistakes. I take so many missteps. I take so many wrong turns. I miss the mark by such a wide margin. I know that I have sinned. I know that I will sin. I know that I am a sinner. Only you can make me able to live a life that is worthy of you. Only you can help me to know and do what is pleasing to you. Yes, I can and will make you able to live a life that is worthy of me. Yes, I can and will help you to know and do what is pleasing to me. I will tell you though that you have the wrong perspective on your identity. What is that? You are not some miserable sinner. Your identity is not that of a sinner. You have been forgiven of your sins. You have been cleansed of all your unrighteous. You have been adopted into my family. I am your Father. You are my child. I already love you. You are already pleasing to me. It pleases me that you love me with all your heart and mind and soul and strength. You are dead to your old life of sin. I have given you a completely new life in me. Let your identity be rooted in the fact that you are my child. Let your identity be founded on the fact that you are my new creation and are becoming a masterpiece in my hands. I am molding and shaping your life. Day by day you are becoming more and more like my Son. Let your identity be built on the certainty that my hand is on you. I will help you to come to know me. You will know my will and walk in my ways. You will go where I guide you. You will do what I ask of you. I will powerfully use you to bear fruit for my kingdom. You will shine brightly as my witness in the world. Be encouraged. Be filled with joy. Be lifted up. You have a future with me both now and forever. You have an inheritance in heaven reserved for you. Thank you, Heavenly Father for so richly blessing my life.

Heavenly Father, I want what you want. I want to know and love you with all my heart, mind, soul and strength. I want to live a life that is pleasing to you. Strengthen me with your power. Help me to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Amen
