Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 123 – Genesis 12:1-3 – Go To The Land I Will Show You – Growing As Disciples

The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:1-3 (NIV)

Go

You have my full attention. I will listen attentively to your voice. I don’t want to fail to hear whatever you want to say to me. I will do whatever you ask of me. I will go wherever you guide me. I am willing to leave the unfamiliar to do what is uncomfortable. Why is that? I want to keep on moving forward with you. I don’t want to find myself stuck in a rut. I don’t want to live a life filled with regrets. I don’t want to sadly look back at what could have been. Most importantly, I want to be able to know and do your will. Most certainly, I want to be able to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. One day I want to hear you say that I have been a good and faithful servant. That is very good. What will happen to you as you go and do my will? I will come to know you more intimately. Why is that? There is a way that I can only come to know you as I go and do what you ask of me. Why is that? I know that you will ask me to do what I cannot accomplish with my own gifts and talents and abilities or with my own power and strength. You will cause me to come to rely on you more fully. You will cause me to ask for your help. You will cause me to live in an intimate relationship with you. Yes, I will. You will lead me to the unfamiliar to do the uncomfortable. Yes, I will. You seem to like stretching me beyond my limits so that you can grow my faith and trust in you. I’m glad that you have noticed that I want you to come to rely fully on me. It would be hard, maybe even impossible not to notice. What else will happen to you as you go and do my will? You will bless my life. How so? You will bless my life so that I will be able to bless the lives of many others. You will work in and through me so that others can come to know and love and follow and serve you. Yes, I will bless your life so that you will be able to bless the lives of many others.

Lord, I will attentively listen to your voice. I am willing to leave the uncomfortable and unfamiliar. I will go and do what you ask of me even when it is difficult. Thank you for blessing my life and the lives of others as I follow and serve you. I am at your service. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Rhythms – Genesis 12:1-3 – Bless – Blessing – Growing As Disciples

Bless You

My hand is on you. I am blessing your life. I will open doors of opportunity for you to go and do new and different things for me. Just as I have blessed your life so also I will use your life to bless the lives of others. That sounds very interesting and exciting. I can hardly wait. What are the details? Where do you want to send me? How do you want to use me? How will you prepare me to do all that you will ask of me? Those are all good questions. I will give you all you need to know when you need to know it. There will be no road map? I will not receive a detailed step-by-step plan in advance? Have I ever given you a detailed step-by-step plan in the past? No, you have not. Well, don’t expect one in the future either. All you will need to do is to follow me to where I lead you to do all that I ask of you. That’s all I’ll get? Isn’t following my leading enough for you? Yes, following your leading is enough for me. As you follow my leading and listen for my instructions I will show you my will and help you to walk in my ways. I will use you according to my purposes and plans. You can be sure and certain of that. I will follow you. I will listen to all that you have to say to me. That’s good.

Why do you think I have blessed your life? I’m not sure what you mean. Have I blessed you so that you alone can benefit? Are you meant to be the sole beneficiary of my blessing? No, I doubt that. I know that it is your joy to bless my life. Why is that? You enjoy blessing my life because I am your child. You love me. Yes, I do love you. You are my child. It does bring me great joy to bless your life. I think it gives you even greater joy to see me share your blessings with others. You want to use me as your blessing to others in this world. Yes, I do. You got that right. Knowing this, what question might you ask me? I will ask you how you want me to share your blessings with others. That’s right. You will open up doors of opportunity for me to share your blessings with others. Yes, I will. I will be looking. I will be waiting. I will be ready for you to use me. That will be every good.

Lord, I have not always recognized a door of opportunity you have opened before me. I have had questions and wanted more details. A detailed road map would have been nice. Forgive me. You have blessed my life and called me to be a blessing. I will go now. Amen

I Will Bless You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 217 - Genesis 12:1-3 - I Will Bless You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 217 – Genesis 12:1-3 – I Will Bless You – Growing As Disciples

The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.  I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.  I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:1-3 (NLT)

Go And Do What I Ask

Will you listen to me? Will you go and do what I ask of you? Will you leave the comfortable and familiar to go and do what I ask of you, even it is uncomfortable and unfamiliar? Don’t answer me too quickly. Know that I will not unfold a complete and detailed road map before you. You will need to follow me. You will need to trust me. You will need to rely on me. I will take you along a path on which you have never traveled. I will have you do what you have never done. You will not have an opportunity to reason with me, to weigh the pros and cons of following and obeying me. You will have to decide if you are willing to place all your faith and hope and trust in me without your fully understanding where I am taking you or what I am asking of you. Now, let’s talk. How does all this sound to you? Do you want my honest answer? Yes, I want your honest answer. All of this sounds scary to me. This sounds difficult and demanding and challenging. Yes, it is all of that, and more. But I need to ask myself some questions. Like what?  Where would I go and what would I do if I decided not to follow and serve you? Where would my life end up if I stopped following and serving you? Wouldn’t my life be filled with regret if I didn’t keep moving forward with you? Aren’t you about to do something significant in and through my life if I say yes to going and doing what you ask of me? Won’t my faith grow stronger as I follow and serve you? Won’t you help me to go and do what you ask of me? Won’t my life be blessed as I allow you to use me? Won’t I be a blessing to others as you work in and through me? You are asking a lot of very good questions. Yes, and there is no doubt about what I will do. What’s that? I will go and do all that you ask of me. That will be very good. Thank you, Lord, for calling me to go and do what you ask of me.

Lord, help me to go and do what you ask of me. I will rely on you. Work in and through me. Bless my life so that I can be a blessing to others. Use me to bear abundant fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. I am at your service ready for your use. Amen
