Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. “To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared? Isaiah 46:4-5 (NIV)
Twists And Turns
Well, my life has had a lot of twists and turns and ups and downs. That’s for sure. There is no doubt about it. I have had incredible highs and devastating lows. I have had great joy and deep sorrow. I have experienced great gains and suffered terrible loss. I could have never have predicted the course of my life. There are a few things I know for certain. What’s that? This is a sin broken world. Nothing about this life has not been damaged by sin. This life with all its brokenness and pain and suffering is not how you designed it in the beginning. No, it is not. I am not immune from suffering in this life. You suffered. I will suffer. Of that I am sure. What else do you know for certain? I know that I can hold on to you. I know that I have held on to you. I know that I will hold on to you in the future. You have sustained me, are sustaining me now and will sustain me in the future. You have brought me through life. You have carried me through difficulties and trials and pain and suffering of every kind. You have rescued me out of darkness and despair. All of this is not because I have tightly held on to you. All of this is because you have held on to me as I have held on to you. Your grip on me is far stronger than my grip has ever been on you. You have not and will not ever let me go. That I know for certain. That I know without a doubt. That is very good.
What else do you know for certain? I know that you want me to know you. I know that when I have been in trouble you have never been closer to me. You have been with me to comfort me. You have been with me to encourage me. You have lifted me up when I have fallen. You have healed me when I have been wounded. You have put me back together when I have been broken. Had I never needed you, I would have never held on to you. Had I never needed you, I would have never relied on you. Had I never needed you, I would have never known you. So, I wouldn’t wish that I had a carefree and easy life. So, I wouldn’t wish for nothing but comfort and pleasure in my future. I don’t regret any of the difficulties I have gone through. Why is that? Nothing compares with the joy of knowing you. Nothing compares with loving and following and serving you. You are my Savior and Lord. You are my God and Father. I am thankful that my life has been, is now, and will be in your hands. You have given me a good life to live with and for you. For that, I am very thankful. That is very good.
Heavenly Father, thank you for being with me. You have constantly come to my aid and helped me in whatever difficulties I have faced in life. You have sustained and rescued me at every turn. There is no one else like you! Amen
