Rule In Your Hearts

The Word Centered Life - Day 9 - Colossians 3:15-17 - Rule In Your Hearts - Growing As Disciples

The Word Centered Life – Day 9 – Colossians 3:15-17 – Rule In Your Hearts – Growing As Disciples

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.  And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:15-17 (NIV)

Dwell Richly

How much is that? How much is what? How much is dwelling richly? I’m not following you. I’m not understanding your question. If you wanted my word to dwell in you richly, what would that look like in your life? How often would you meet with me in my word? What strategies would you employ so that my word would be dwelling richly in you? What would you expect to see happen in your life if my word was continually dwelling richly in you? Now, I understand your questions. Now. I know what you are asking of me. If I want your word to dwell in me richly, I will meet daily with you in your word. Is there a day that I don’t need to hear from you? Is there a day that I can rely on my own wisdom, follow my own guidance, or receive my own instruction? Is there a day that I don’t need your help? Certainly not! I will make meeting with you, in your word, a priority in my life. I will read your word. I will study your word. I will meditate on and memorize your word. I will pray and proclaim your word. I will teach your word. I’m not much of a singer, but I will even sing your word. In every way that I can think of, I will take hold of your word, so that it can take hold of me. I will allow your word to dwell richly in me. That will be very good.

You have not yet answered one of my questions. Which one? What will happen to you as you allow my word to dwell in you richly? My heart will be changed, my mind will be transformed, and my life will be guided as your word dwells in me richly. I will come to know and love and follow and serve you with all that is within me as I continue to meet with you in your word. You will allow me to think your thoughts, speak your words, or take your actions, as your word dwells richly in me. Your word and the power of the Holy Spirit will make me able to resist temptation and fight against evil. Your word dwelling richly in me will make me able to live the life you have called me to live. I will live a life that is good and right and true, one that is pleasing to you. Yes, you will. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will allow your word to dwell richly in me. I know your word will make it possible for your peace to rule in me. Teach and admonish me with your word. Your word has filled me with gratitude. Use your word to guide my thoughts, words, and actions. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Gratitude – Colossians 3:15 – Peace Of Christ Rule – Growing As Disciples

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15 (NIV)

Your Peace

That’s exactly what I want. What is exactly what you want? I want to live in your peace. I want your peace to rule and reign in me. Well, then we both want the same thing. That’s good. Yes, it is. Now, I just have to figure out how to let your peace rule in my heart. Is that something you think you will be able to figure out? I could try. But, I doubt it. I don’t think that all my best efforts will bring your peace into my heart and mind and life. I might even be filled with more anxiety trying to bring your peace into my life. How about asking me to fill your life with my peace, have you ever thought of that? How about just allowing me to bring my peace into your life, have you ever considered that? Well, no, not really. You would do that? You would bring your peace in my life because I asked you to? You would bring your peace into my life simply because I allowed you too? What do you think? I think you want me to live in your peace. I think you want your peace to rule and reign in my life. Yes, I do. Then if I ask you to do that for me, I can see no reason why you would not hear and answer that prayer. That would be a good observation. That would be an excellent prayer that I would gladly answer for you. Then, I will ask you to fill me with your peace. Replace conflict and anxiety and discord in my life with your peace. Change everything about me. Help my mind to think thoughts of peace. Help my mouth to speak words of peace. Help my life to take actions that bring peace. Help me to be your peacemaker in the world. Draw people to you through your peace being lived out in and though my life. Those are good desires. Those are great prayers. Keep on praying them. Keep on asking me for them. Keep on allowing my peace to work in and through your life. Yes Lord, I will.

I have one question for you. What’s that? When I hear and answer these prayers of yours what will you think and feel and say? I will be filled with gratitude. I will be thankful. I will give you thanks and praise and honor. All the glory and honor will belong to you. I will say thank you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. That will be very good.

Lord, I no longer want to live in conflict. I no longer want to live a life filled full of anxiety. I want your peace to rule and reign in me. I want your peace to change all the thoughts of my mind, words of my mouth and deeds of my life. Fill me full with your peace. Amen
