Rule In Your Hearts

The Word Centered Life - Day 9 - Colossians 3:15-17 - Rule In Your Hearts - Growing As Disciples

The Word Centered Life – Day 9 – Colossians 3:15-17 – Rule In Your Hearts – Growing As Disciples

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.  And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:15-17 (NIV)

Dwell Richly

How much is that? How much is what? How much is dwelling richly? I’m not following you. I’m not understanding your question. If you wanted my word to dwell in you richly, what would that look like in your life? How often would you meet with me in my word? What strategies would you employ so that my word would be dwelling richly in you? What would you expect to see happen in your life if my word was continually dwelling richly in you? Now, I understand your questions. Now. I know what you are asking of me. If I want your word to dwell in me richly, I will meet daily with you in your word. Is there a day that I don’t need to hear from you? Is there a day that I can rely on my own wisdom, follow my own guidance, or receive my own instruction? Is there a day that I don’t need your help? Certainly not! I will make meeting with you, in your word, a priority in my life. I will read your word. I will study your word. I will meditate on and memorize your word. I will pray and proclaim your word. I will teach your word. I’m not much of a singer, but I will even sing your word. In every way that I can think of, I will take hold of your word, so that it can take hold of me. I will allow your word to dwell richly in me. That will be very good.

You have not yet answered one of my questions. Which one? What will happen to you as you allow my word to dwell in you richly? My heart will be changed, my mind will be transformed, and my life will be guided as your word dwells in me richly. I will come to know and love and follow and serve you with all that is within me as I continue to meet with you in your word. You will allow me to think your thoughts, speak your words, or take your actions, as your word dwells richly in me. Your word and the power of the Holy Spirit will make me able to resist temptation and fight against evil. Your word dwelling richly in me will make me able to live the life you have called me to live. I will live a life that is good and right and true, one that is pleasing to you. Yes, you will. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will allow your word to dwell richly in me. I know your word will make it possible for your peace to rule in me. Teach and admonish me with your word. Your word has filled me with gratitude. Use your word to guide my thoughts, words, and actions. Amen

In Your Hearts Toward God

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Gratitude - In Your Hearts Toward God - Colossians 3:16 - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Gratitude – In Your Hearts Toward God – Colossians 3:16 – Growing As Disciples

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16 NIV

Filled With Gratitude

What do you think will happen if you let my word dwell in you richly? Do you know what I mean when I say the word, “dwell”? Yes, I do. It means to let your word really make its home in my life. Yes, that’s right. How about that word, “richly” what do you think that might look like in your life? If your word is really dwelling richly in my life then all my thoughts, words, and actions will be guided by your word. How do you think that might begin to happen? First of all I know that a meager diet of your word is not what you have in mind. I cannot expect your word to dwell in me richly if I only hear it now and then and here and there or once in awhile. That amount of your word is like a little nibble that will not feed and sustain the kind of life you want me to live with and for you. No, it will not.

Does it seem to you that you are faced with a choice? Yes, it does. Tell me what you think the choice is that you are being asked to make. Will I really let your word dwell in me richly? That is the question that I need to answer by making a choice. Yes, you are correct. How are you going to answer that question? There is nothing I would rather have than your word dwelling in me richly. That is a very good answer. Now comes the real test. What’s that? You can’t say yes and take no action. If you want my word to dwell in you richly then you will have to set aside time to be with me in my word so that it will really dwell in you richly. The time you set aside to be with me in my word will just be the beginning of my word dwelling in you richly. What do you mean by that?

When my word is really dwelling in you richly, it will never leave you. My word will be in your heart and on your mind all the time. My word will make you wise and able to teach others. My word will put songs of praise on your lips that you will want to sing to me. Your life will be filled with joy because you will know me and my word. I will speak to you and guide your life by my word. You will come to me with your heart filled with gratitude for how I have changed your heart, mind and life by my word. Yes Lord that is exactly what I want.

Lord, thank you for your word. It is my delight to let your word dwell in me richly. Thank you that you are changing my heart and transforming my mind with your word. Your word has put songs of praise and gratitude on my lips. Amen

Dwell In You Richly

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 168 - Colossians 3:15-17 - Dwell In You Richly - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 168 – Colossians 3:15-17 – Dwell In You Richly – Growing As Disciples

My Peace

Do you want my peace to rule in your heart? Yes, of course, I want your peace to rule heart. What must I do If I want your peace to rule in my heart? That is a very good question. But the answer will not be what you expect. What do I expect? You expect that letting my peace rule in your heart will depend on something you will do. You think that some effort on your part will make my peace rule in your heart. I have a big surprise for you. What’s that? Your efforts will never bring you peace in your heart. My peace being in your heart does not depend on you. You have my full attention. I am listening attentively to you. Let me ask you a few questions. Go ahead. Do you believe that I love you? Do you believe that I care for you? Do you believe that I can and will help you? I know that I have you thinking. Yes, you have me thinking. What are you thinking? I can see where this line of questioning is headed. Where is that? If I believe that you love me, if I believe that you care for me, if I believe that you can and will take care of me, then I should be able to rest in that knowledge and receive the peace that you want me to live in. You got it. You want me to come to trust and rely on you. Yes, I do. Then, I will be letting your peace rule in my heart. That I will do. That will be very good.

I do want to warn you that coming to trust and rely on me will not be easy. The devil and all his evil will try to attack you and try to fill you with fear and worry and anxiety. He will try to steal and kill and destroy the peace and hope and joy and the peace I have for you. You need to be ready. You need to be prepared. How can I be ready and be prepared? Let my word dwell in you richly. You need your heart and mind and life to be focused on me. You need to be attentive to my voice. My word will strengthen you. My word will sustain you. My word will make you able to live a life of peace and joy and gratitude and thanksgiving as you love and follow and serve me. Will you let my peace rule in you? Will you let my word dwell in you richly? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good. Then you will live the life I have for you. Then you will live in my peace. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, there is no doubt about it, these are troubling times. There is great difficulty, not only in my life, but also in the lives of many people around me. Help me to let your peace rule in me. Help me to let your word dwell in me richly, so I can live in your peace. Amen
