Let Your Light Shine

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 122 - Matthew 5:13-16 - Let Your Light Shine - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 122 – Matthew 5:13-16 – Let Your Light Shine – Growing As Disciples

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16 (NIV)

Salt And Light

Is that what you want to be? Is what do I want to be? Do you want to be salt and light in the world? Do you want others to give thanks and praise and honor and glory to me because of what they feel and see coming out of your life? Nothing would give me greater hope and joy and pleasure to be salt and light for you in the world. To know that I have been, am, and will be used by you would be very satisfying and gratifying. How can I be salt for you in the world? How can I be a light for you in the world? Those are very good questions. Let me ask you a question. Go ahead, I am listening. Does salt and light originate in you? I’m not sure what you mean. Are you the source of salt and light that will cause others to give thanks and praise and honor and glory to me? Will doing what comes naturally to you bring salt and light to others in the world? Those are easy questions to answer. What are your answers? I am certainly not the source of world changing salt and light, there is no doubt about that. Doing what comes naturally to me will never bring salt and light into the world. My efforts alone will never give others cause to give thanks and praise and honor and glory to you. It is good that you know these thoughts to be true.

So, what then will cause you to be able to live as salt and light in the world? Only living in an intimate relationship with you will allow me to be salt and light in the world. You are the source of any salt and light that will come out of my life. As I allow you to live in and through me, I will salt the world all around me with your flavor. As I allow you to live in and through me, I will bring light into the darkness of the world all around me. Will you live in an intimate relationship with me? Will you draw near to me? Will you walk with me through life? Will you allow me to make you salt and light in the world? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Heavenly Father help me to be salt on this earth. Help me to bring your flavor to people everywhere. Help me to be a light in the world. Help me to shine in the darkness in such a way that people will give thanks, praise and honor and glory to you. This is my prayer. Amen

Salt Of The Earth

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Becoming Like Christ - Day 210 - Matthew 5:13-16 - Salt Of The Earth - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 210 – Matthew 5:13-16 – Salt Of The Earth – Growing As Disciples

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its salty taste, it cannot be made salty again. It is good for nothing, except to be thrown out and walked on. “You are the light that gives light to the world. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden. And people don’t hide a light under a bowl. They put it on a lampstand so the light shines for all the people in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and will praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16 (NCV)

Salt And Light

I want to be like salt for you in the world. What does that mean? You’re asking me that question. Yes, I am asking that question. I thought you might tell me what that means. No, I would prefer to hear from you. I want to season the world with your flavor so that people will be attracted to you. I want to flavor the world with all your goodness. I want others to fully taste of your goodness by the flavor that you bring out of my life. That’s good. What else? I want my life to act as a preservative that will prevent the world from falling into corruption and experiencing decay, as I live the life you have called me to live, by going and doing all that you ask of me. I expect that you will use me to right wrongs. I expect that you will use me flight injustice. I expect that you will give me good deeds to do for you that will bring praise and glory to your name.  Yes, I will. What else?

I also want to be like a light in the world. What does that mean? I want to shine brightly for you in the darkness of this world. I want your light in me to overcome the darkness of the world. I want you to use me to change what is not good and right and pleasing to you. I want you to use me to overturn what is evil and establish what is right. I want others to see your kindness and mercy and love through the testimony of my life. I want your light in me to draw others to you. I want a multitude to come to know and love and follow and serve you because they see you in me. That will be very good. I will use you to be my salt and light in the world.  You will help a multitude to taste and see my goodness. You will help a multitude to come to know me. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I want to be used as your salt and light in the world. Help me to bring the flavor of you to everyone I meet. Help me to shine your light in the world so many will come to know, love and follow you. Use my life to do good deeds that brings glory to you. Amen

You Are The Salt Of The Earth

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - The Virtuous Life - Day 231- Matthew 5-13-16 - You Are Salt Of The Earth - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – The Virtuous Life – Day 231- Matthew 5-13-16 – You Are Salt Of The Earth – Growing As Disciples

Matthew 5:13-16 (NIV)

Salt And Light

Do you want to be salt and light, for me, in the world? Do you want to bring glory and honor and praise to my name? Do you want others to be drawn to me through the witness of your life? Yes Lord, I want all these things to be true of my life. I want my life to shine brightly for you in the darkness of this world. I want my life to add your flavor and preservative to what would otherwise be foul corruption in the world. How can I be salt and light for you in the world? That is a very good question. If you want to be salt and light for me in the world there is one thing you must not do and another thing that you must do. You have my full attention. I am listening carefully to you. That’s good. First, you must not let the corruption that is in the world destroy your saltiness or diminish your light. That means that I must not allow myself to be conformed to the values, patterns, and practices of the world. I must throw off anything and everything that would hinder my being salt and light for you. That means that I must not allow myself to become enticed and entrapped by sin. That is correct.

What must I do if I want to be salt and light for you in the world? You tell me. I must go and do what you ask of me. I must do the good works that you have prepared in advance for me to do. Throwing off sin and not getting entangled in worldly pursuits will make it so my saltiness is not destroyed, or my light is not diminished. But going and doing what you ask of me will help me to shine brightly for you in the darkness of this world. Accomplishing your purposes and fulfilling your plans will help me to bring the flavor of your goodness to others all round me. Others will be drawn to you as I remain salty and shiny for you. That is true. That is right. That is certain. That is what I will do. That will be very good.

Lord, thank you for making me to be salt and light in the world. Thank you for giving me good deeds to do for you. Use me to bring glory and honor and praise to your name. Draw a multitude of others to yourself through the salt and light of my life. Amen

Key Question…  How are your good deeds bringing glory and honor and praise to God?

Living It Out…  Allow your good deeds to be like salt and light in the world to bring glory, honor, and praise to God.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that the Lord will use your good deeds as salt and light in the world.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group how your good deeds are bringing glory to God.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you live a godly life filled with prayers that the Lord will hear and answer.
