Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – The Sacramental Life – Day 349 – Romans 8-37-39 – Overwhelming Victory – Growing As Disciples

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.  No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.                Romans 8:37-39 (NLT)

Overwhelming Victory

That certainly would be an overwhelming victory for me. What would be an overwhelming victory for you? If I were to not be afraid about today or worry about tomorrow that would be an overwhelming victory for me. Why is that? All my life I have been filled with fear and worry. Do you know why you have been filled with fear and worry? Please don’t think or say that you have had a lot to be fearful and worried about, that would be an incorrect answer. I do know why I have been fearful and worried. You do? Yes, I do. Let me hear your thoughts. Pride has filled me with fear and worry. To some that may seem like an odd answer. Most would see no connection between pride and fear and worry. What connection do you see? Pride tells me that I am in control. Pride tells me to rely on myself to solve all my problems. Pride tells me that by my own efforts I can work my way out of fear and worry. How has relying on yourself worked out for you? How often have you been able to work yourself out of fear and worry? I have never been able to work myself out of fear and worry. My self-reliant efforts have only served to cause me greater fear and more worry. That is true.

What is the real solution to your fear and worry? Faith is the solution to my fear and worry. How so? You have told me that you love me. You have said that because of your love for me, I will be more than a conqueror and live-in overwhelming victory. Your love will for me will overcome fear and doubt and worry. Your love for me will conqueror the powers of hell and even death itself. There is nothing in life or even in death that your love for me has not and will not defeat. Nothing can or ever will separate me from your love. What you are saying couldn’t be truer.

What do you need from me? I need for you to increase my faith in you. I need you to help me to know your love more fully. I need for you to help me to live in your love more completely. What will you do? I will place all my faith and hope and trust in you. I will stop pridefully relying on myself by trying to work my way out of fear and worry. That will be very good. I will hear and answer your prayer. I will help you to know my love more fully and to live in my love more completely. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I know you love me without reservation. I know you love me beyond all measure. Help me to know your love more fully. Help me to live in your love more completely. Help me to live without worry or fear because I know your love will always be with me. Amen

Godly Way

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 309 - Jeremiah 6:16 - Godly Way - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 309 – Jeremiah 6:16 – Godly Way – Growing As Disciples

This is what the LORD says: “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls. But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’ Jeremiah 6:16 (NLT)

Stop At The Crossroads

That is a very good time to meet, don’t you think? When is a very good time to meet? When you are at the crossroads; when you aren’t sure which way to proceed; when you are stuck and stopped dead in your tracks. Why is that such a good time to meet? When else have I had your fullest and best attention? When have you listened more carefully to my voice? When have you come to rely on me more fully? When have you cried out and asked for my help with more desperation? You have a good point. Yes, I have a good point. At the crossroads, is a very good time to meet. But I want to make something very clear to you. What’s that? What you learn at the crossroads, I want you to take what you have learned into your daily, everyday life. I am not sure what you mean. I don’t want to meet with you occasionally when you come to a crossroads. I don’t want you to listen attentively to me, here and there and now and then. I don’t want you to rely on my help, as needed. What do you want from me? I want you to live in an intimate relationship with me every day of your life. I want you to receive my instructions. I want you to follow my guidance. I want you to depend on me. I want you to rely on me as we walk through life together. Do you understand? Do you want what I want? Do you want to walk through life with me? Do you want to follow me to where I lead you? Do you want to go and do what I ask of you? Do you want to think and speak and act in ways that are pleasing to me? Do you want to live a godly life that I can and will bless? Lord, I want everything that you want. I will live this life that you are calling me to live. I want to follow and serve you. I want to love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. You have filled me with desire to live in an intimate relationship with you. Guide me, I’m following. Counsel me, I’m listening. Help me, I am relying on you. That is very good.

Lord, I will stop and listen. I will look around and ask questions. All of this with the sole purpose of hearing from you. I want to think and speak and act in ways that are pleasing to you. I want to walk through life on the good and godly path with you leading me. Amen

Key Question…  When do you take time to stop, listen, look, and ask questions about the way God wants to direct you?

Living It Out…  Stop, listen, look around, and ask questions about the way God wants you to walk through life with Him.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that God will help you to walk in a godly way that is pleasing to Him.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group how you are taking time to listen attentively to the Lord.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you stop and listen to the Lord so He can guide you on a godly path that is pleasing to Him.

We Are More Than Conquerors

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - God The Father - We Are More Than Conquerors - Romans 8:37-39 - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God The Father – We Are More Than Conquerors – Romans 8:37-39 – Growing As Disciples

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.   Romans 8:37-39

Rest In My Love

I want you to rest in my love. I have you in my loving arms. I will never let you go. Yes, you will face many battles and difficulties in life. You already know that. Has any one of them separated you from my love? Where have I been when you have gone through painful trials and suffering? You have been right with me. You have comforted and encouraged me. You have lifted me up when I was down. It has been in these struggles that I have most felt your loving presence. When my heart has been broken you have been very near to me. Yes, I have most certainly been close to you then. But, you need to know that I am always by your side to lead and guide you through life. You are not on your own, not for one minute, not for one second. Father, that is so wonderful for me to hear. That is exactly what I want you to do. Hear and take a firm hold on knowing that I love you and am with you at all times.

Why is it that you are calling me to remember your love for me at this time? Why do you think? I have a pretty good idea. I’ll bet that you do, tell me about it. I have a troubled and worried heart, don’t I? Yes, you do. I’m troubled about things I can’t control and worried about things that will never happen. Yes, you are.

What would happen to you if you rested in my love and trusted that I will help you through every difficulty? I would have more peace and joy that’s for sure. Yes, you would. You might even have a smile on your face. Have I been frowning a lot? What do you think? I suppose I have. You’ve looked like you were carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. Guess what? That’s funny, how am I supposed to answer your, “guess what?” Try anyhow. Alright, I’m not carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders. I can’t and shouldn’t even begin to try. You are a very good guesser. That’s exactly what I had in mind.

I want you to let go of every worry, give me all your troubles. Rest in my love. You are securely in my embrace. Nothing will ever separate you from my love. You are not on your own. I have your life and the future in my hands. I will lead you to where I want you to go. I will show you what I want you to do. You don’t have to try and figure everything out by yourself. You wouldn’t be able to anyhow. Will you trust me? Will you rest in my love? Do you believe that I have my hand on you?

Is there something that you want to ask me? Yes Father, there is. I need you to help to be able to rest in your love. It seems like it should be easy but its not easy for me. Help me Father, to rest in your love. You can be absolutely sure that I will answer that prayer for you. I know, and for that I am so thankful.

Heavenly Father, thank you that nothing can separate me from your love. Your love watches out for me through any trouble. No hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger or sword can distance me from your love.  Amen

Revealed It To Us

Discipleship Study - Wisdom - 1 Corinthians 2:6-10 - Revealed It To Us- Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Study – Wisdom – 1 Corinthians 2:6-10 – Revealed It To Us- Growing As Disciples

We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”– but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 1 Corinthians 2:6-10 (NIV)

Walk In Wisdom

Do you want to know me? Do you want to know my will and walk in my ways? Do want to live and walk in my wisdom? Do you want to receive my wisdom and live out all that I have prepared for you? Yes, I want to know you. I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. I want nothing more than to know your will and walk in your ways. In every way, I want to live and walk in your wisdom. I want to receive your wisdom and live out all that you have prepared for me. I don’t want to miss out on anything that you have planned and prepared for me.

How can I know your will? How can I receive your wisdom? How can I walk in your ways? Those are good questions. It is very good that you are passionately asking me these questions. Why is that? You must want to know my will. You must want to receive my wisdom. You must want to walk in my ways. Your questions are filled with passionate desire. You are passionately asking me these questions because you love me with all your heart and mind and soul and strength. You are filled with desire to know and do my will. You are fully devoted to loving, following and serving me. You are seeking me with all your heart. You are giving yourself fully to me. You are holding nothing back. You are keeping nothing in reserve. You are pouring yourself out in service to me. That is very good.

You will not be denied. Your request has been heard and will be answered. I will help you to know and respond to my wisdom. My wisdom will guide you. My wisdom will guard you. My wisdom will lead you to where I want you to go. My wisdom will make you able to do what I ask you to do. You will fulfill my purposes and accomplishes my plans. My wisdom will make you able to will live and walk in all the good things I have prepared for you. You will not miss out. You will not fall short. You will have no regrets as you continue to follow and serve me. That will be great. That will be fantastic. That will be beyond what I could have ever hoped for or even imagined. Yes, it will.

Lord, I love you with all my heart, mind, soul and strength. I want to know and understand and respond to all your wisdom. Show me what I could not begin to know or understand about your wisdom. Help me to live and walk in what you have prepared for me. Amen
