Meditates Day And Night

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - The Mind - Psalm 1:1-3 - Meditates Day And Night - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – The Mind – Psalm 1:1-3 – Meditates Day And Night – Growing As Disciples

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Psalm 1:1-3 (NIV)

A Blessed Life

Do you want to live a life that is blessed by me? Yes, I want to live a life that is blessed by you. What must I do if I want to live a life that is blessed by you? You tell me. How can I tell you? Your answer is right here in my word.

If I want to live a life that is blessed by you I won’t walk in the counsel of the wicked. What does that mean to you? I won’t pay attention to advice from wicked people. I won’t listen to their counsel. I won’t accept their thoughts, opinions and values. I won’t allow my mind to be conformed to their way of thinking. I won’t walk in the way that they walk. I won’t follow them on their path in life. I won’t walk to where they are going. Their purposes, plans and schemes will mean nothing to me. Instead, I will walk with you. That’s good. What else?

If I want to live a life that is blessed by you I won’t stand in the way of sinners. What does that mean to you? I won’t hang around with sinners. I won’t live in the way that they live. I won’t adopt their ways as my own. I will not do what sinners do. I will not live a life that is disobedient to you. I won’t rely on myself. I won’t allow myself to be self-reliant and self-sufficient. I won’t elevate myself to be my own god. I will live humbly before you. Instead, I will stand with you. That’s good. What else?

If I want to live a life that is blessed by you I won’t sit in the seat of mockers? What does that mean to you? I will not mock what is holy.  I will honor what you honor. I will value what you value. I will want what you want. I will bow down to worship you. I will acknowledge you in all that I think, say and do. In every way I will live to please you. My seat will be far away from those who mock you. Instead, I will take my seat with you. That’s good. What else?

If I want to live a life that is blessed by you it will not be enough to not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of mockers. No, it will not. I will also meditate on your word day and night. Your word will be my counselor. Your word will be guide. Your word will be my teacher. Your word will bless my life. Your word will make me able to live my life with and for you. Your word will cause me to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. That is what I want. That is what I will do. That will be very good.

Lord, show me the people, places, things and activities that you want me to separate myself from. Help me to meditate on your word day and night. Bless and refresh my life with your word. Use your word to cause my life to bear fruit for your kingdom and glory. Amen

Blessed Is The Man

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - The Virtuous Life - Day 191- Psalm 1-1-3 - Blessed Is The Man - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – The Virtuous Life – Day 191- Psalm 1-1-3 – Blessed Is The Man – Growing As Disciples

My Word

What will my word do for you? How will my word counsel you? How will my word guide you? How will my word guard you? How will your heart be changed, and your mind transformed as you meditate on my word day and night? What will be different about you as you allow my word to dwell in you richly? I don’t know where to begin. I don’ know where to stop. What won’t your word do for me? As I meditate on your word day and night, I will come to know you. As I meet with you in your word, nothing about me will remain the same. The thoughts of my mind, the words of my mouth and the deeds of my life will be molded and shaped and guarded and guided by your word. My once unfruitful life will become like as you say, “a tree planted by a stream of water”. Instead of a life that is weary and worn out, and dry and unproductive, I will be fresh and alive, briming with life, ready and willing and able to bear abundant fruit for your kingdom and glory. Your word will make me new inside an out.. Your word will set a new course for my life. Your word will help me to resist temptation and stand against evil. No longer will I find myself in the wrong places, with the wrong people, in the wrong circumstances. Your word will make me able to shine brightly for you in the darkness of this world. Your word will make me able to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. Your word will make me able to know and do your will. No longer will I wander from one fruitless endeavor to another. No longer will I wonder where you want me to go or what you want me to do. My life will have hope and meaning and purpose as I grab hold of your word and put it into practice. Yes, my word will do all these things for you. Will you meditate on my word day and night as you love and follow and serve me? Yes, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I will meditate on your word day and night. Use your word to change my heart, transform my mind, and guide my life. Use your word to revive, refresh and restore my life. Use your word to make me able to bear abundant fruit for your kingdom and glory. Amen

Meditates Day And Night

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - God's Word - Psalm 1:1-3- Meditates Day And Night - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Word – Psalm 1:1-3- Meditates Day And Night – Growing As Disciples

Do you want to live a blessed life? Do you want to live a life that is new and fresh and alive? Do you want your life to bear an abundance of fruit? Do you want to be able to prosper in the work that I have given you to do for me? Those are not hard questions. I do want to live a blessed life that is new and fresh and alive. I do want to bear and abundance of fruit. I do want to prosper in the work you have given me to do for you. What must I do if I want all of these things? That is a very good question.

You must do two things if you want my blessing on your life. First, you must leave your old life. How will I leave my old life? You must separate yourself from all that is evil. You must remove yourself from people, places and things that will hinder your walk with me. You must eliminate from your life all that would try to feed and sustain evil in you. I’m not sure what you mean. Don’t go where wickedness would try to guide you. Don’t listen to what evil would try to counsel you. Don’t walk along with what evil is thinking, saying and doing. Don’t take your stand or sit down with those who find pleasure in doing what is not pleasing to me. Now I understand, I get it. You said I must do two things. Yes, I did.

As you leave your old life behind you must embrace and take hold of your new life that you have in me. How will I do that? You will follow me. You will listen carefully to all that I have to say to you. You will meditate on my word day and night. You will no longer think, speak and act like you once did. You will no longer live as you once did. At one time you were weary and worn out. You were dry and exhausted. You were without hope in the world. Yes, I was. Now, my word will feed and strengthen you. You will be like a tree that has been planted by a stream of water. My word will revive and refresh your life. At one time you were barren and unproductive. No kidding. Now you will bear an abundance of fruit for my kingdom. Now you will bring glory to my name. That’s what I want. I want to live out my new life that I have in you. That will be very good.

Lord, instead of walking, standing, or sitting in the wrong places with the wrong people – hearing, doing or saying the wrong things, I will meditate on your word day and night. Guide all I hear, do, or say by your word so that I will bear fruit for your kingdom. Amen

He Meditates Day And Night

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Blessing - Psalm 1:1-3 - He Meditates Day And Night - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Blessing – Psalm 1:1-3 – He Meditates Day And Night – Growing As Disciples

Fruitful

Do you want to be able to live the life that I have called you to live? Do you want to live a life that is fruitful for me? Yes, of course I want to live a fruitful life. I want to be able to live the life that you have called me to live. Do you believe my word? Can you trust and act on what you see and hear in my word? Yes, I believe your word. I always want to act on what I see and hear from your word. Is there something that you want to say to me? Is there something from your word that you want me to see and hear and act on? Will seeing and hearing something from your word make me fruitful for you? Will seeing and hearing something from your word help me to live the life that you have called me to live? You are asking very good questions. Yes, there is something form my word that I want you to see and hear and act on. Yes, if you put into practice what I want you to see and hear your life will be fruitful for me. You have my full attention. I’m listening carefully to you.

First, you must distance yourself from evil of every kind. There are places you should not go. There are things that you should not do. There are people that you should not allow into your inner circle of friends. You must not be influenced by thoughts, words and deeds that are evil. Eliminate anything and everything from your life that might feed and cause evil desires to grow in you. Do you hear what I am saying? I think so. I am not saying that you must remove yourself from the world. I am not saying that you will not reach out and minister to those who do not know me. I am not saying that you must try to hide yourself away in some corner to make sure that you are not exposed to evil. You will still live in an evil world. Just make sure that your heart and mind and life are not feeding on the evil that is in the world. I understand.

What else? Next, meditate on my word day and night. Carry my word with you wherever you go. Feast on my word. Let my word teach and train you. Let my word guard and guide you. Let my word dwell in you richly. My word will change your heart, transform your mind and guide your life. If my word is dwelling in you richly, you will be abundantly fruitful for me. If my word is dwelling in you richly, you will be able to live the life that I have called you to live. Will you meditate on my word day and night as you separate yourself from evil? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, you have rescued me from an unfruitful and weary life. You have made it my delight to meditate on your word. Your word has changed my heart and mind. Thank you for blessing my life and making me fruitful for you. Amen

Meditates Day And Night

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Becoming Like Christ - Day 68 - Psalm 1:1-3 - Meditates Day And Night - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 68 – Psalm 1:1-3 – Meditates Day And Night – Growing As Disciples

Walk

There are several things that are absolutely certain. What’s that? I want to walk with you. I want to know and do your will. I want to live my life in ways that are pleasing to you. I want to shine like a bold and bright witness in the world. I want others to be drawn to you through the testimony of my life. To sum it all up, I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. These are very good desires. Yes, I know. These desires come from you. Yes, they do.

How will these desires be fulfilled in and through your life? You have already given me your very clear answer to this question. That’s true. Let me hear your answer. First, I must separate myself from evil of every kind. I must remove anything from my life that would hinder my walk with you. Like what? There are people that should not be in my inner circle. There are people that should not be allowed to speak into my life. There are people that should not be my close confidants. There are people that would not be good examples for me to follow. I should never allow myself to become a companion of someone that is putting forth evil of any kind. That’s true. What else? There are places, circumstances and situations that would certainly attempt to feed my thoughts, words and actions with evil. I should separate myself from anything that might lead me into temptation or cause me to sin. I must never allow myself to flirt with evil of any kind. When evil approaches, I must run from it, even before it attempts to overtake me. That’s also true.

You have talked quite a bit about what you must not do; what must you do if you want to live and walk in ways that please me? I must meditate on your word day and night. I must take your word deeply into my heart and mind. I must let your word dwell in me richly. I must devour your word because it will feed the life you have called me to live. Your word will change my heart and transform my mind. Your word will change the thoughts of my mind, words of my mouth and deeds of my life. Your word will make me able to stand against temptation and resist evil. Your word will help me to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Yes, it will. Will you separate yourself from evil and meditate on my word day and night. Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good. Then my blessing will be on your life.

Lord, I will separate myself from evil of every kind. I will leave behind everything that might hinder my walk with you. I will meditate on your word day and night so I can know your will and walk in your ways. Help me to bear fruit for your kingdom and glory. Amen

Blessed Is The Man

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Wisdom - Psalm 1:1-3 - Blessed Is The Man - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Wisdom – Psalm 1:1-3 – Blessed Is The Man – Growing As Disciples

Two Things

There are two things that I want you to do. There are two things that you must do if you want me to bless your life. I want you to bless my life, that is for sure. What do you want me to do? What must I do if I want you to bless my life? I think that you can answer both of your own questions. You do? Yes, I do. Your statements sounded like you were going to tell me about something that I did not know. No, that’s not it. My statements are meant to call to your attention something that you already know. So, let me hear your answers. What two things must you do? I must turn away from evil of every kind. I must not think what evil thinks. I must not speak what evil speaks. I must not do what evil does. What else? I must not go where evil goes. I must not stay where evil stays. Anything more? I must give no ground to evil. I must not let evil entice me. I must not let evil surround me. I must not let evil allure me. I must make a complete break from evil in every form. That’s right.

Will it be difficult to make such a complete break from evil? Will you be able to resist every evil and stand against every temptation? On my own strength, with my own abilities, I will be unable to resist every evil and stand against every temptation. My own strength and abilities will leave me completely vulnerable to evil and temptation. What will you do? I will rely on you. How will you rely on me?  I will allow you to change my heart, transform my mind and protect my life. I will allow you to make me able to resist every evil and stand against every temptation. How will you allow all this to happen? What will I use to change your heart, transform your mind and protect your life? What will I use to make you able to resist every evil and stand against temptation? You will use your word. Your word will change my heart, transform my mind and protect my life. I will meditate on your word day and night. Your word will feed me. Your word will sustain me. Your word will strengthen me. Your word will mold and shape me. Your word will guard and guide me. Yes, my word will do all of these things for you.

Will you remove yourself from evil of every kind as you meditate on my word day and night? Yes Lord, I will. Then your life will be blessed. Then your life will be like a well-watered tree planted by a stream of water. Then your life will prosper and bear abundant fruit for my kingdom and glory. That is what I want. That is my hope and dream and desire. That is very good.

Lord, I will meditate on your word day and night. I will allow your word to change the thoughts of my mind, words of my mouth and deeds of my life. Use your word to help me turn away from evil and resist temptation. Sustain and bless my life with your word. Amen

Like A Tree

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Identity - Psalm 1:1-3 - Like A Tree - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Identity – Psalm 1:1-3 – Like A Tree – Growing As Disciples

Do you want to live a life that I can bless? Do you want to bear fruit for my kingdom? Do you want to bring glory to my name? Do you want to live your life with and for me? Do you want to go where I send you? Do you want to do what I ask of you? Yes, I want to live a life that you can bless. I want to live a life that can be used by you. Yes, I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. How can I live my life with and for you? How can I live a life that is pleasing to you? How can I live a life that you can bless? Those are good questions.

If you want to live a life that I can bless, you will do two things. What two things? You must stay away from evil of every kind. You will not sit with evil. You will not walk with evil. You will not stand with evil. You will separate yourself from every form of evil. You will not think what evil thinks. You will not say what evil says. You will not do what evil does. Separating myself from evil of every kind seems like an impossible task. Why is that? Evil is all around me. This is a broken world that is filled with evil of every kind. Yes, it is. My life is constantly being bombarded with the thoughts and opinions and values of an evil world. Yes, it is. Are you asking me to withdraw from the world completely? No, I am not. You are in the world. But, you are not of the world. The task of withdrawing from evil of every kind seems even more difficult. How will I ever be able to resist evil? How will I ever be able to stand against evil? How will I ever be able to have victory over the evil that is in the world? Those are good questions. To be able to resist and stand against evil you must meditate on my word day and night. My word will strengthen you. My word will guard you. My word will protect you. My word will guide you to where I want you to go. My word will help you to do what I will ask you to do. So, you want me to withdraw from evil while I am meditating on your word day and night? Yes, it is my word that will give you victory over evil. It is my word that will make you able to live a life that I can and will bless. My word will help you to bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. I will separate myself from evil and I will meditate on your word day and night. That will be very good.

Lord, here I am. I have withdrawn from evil of every kind. I will not sit, walk or stand with evil. I will not think what evil thinks. I will not say what evil says. I will not do what evil does. Instead, make me fruitful for you as I meditate on your word day and night. Amen

His Delight

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Discipleship - Psalm 1 - His Delight - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Discipleship – Psalm 1 – His Delight – Growing As Disciples

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-3 (ESV)

My Word

Do you want to live a life that is blessed? Do you want to live a life that will prosper? Do you want to live a life that I can use? Who would say no to such questions? Who would not want to live a blessed and prosperous life? Who would not want to be used my you. I certainly want all these things. What must I do to live a blessed and prosperous life? How can I live a life that is ready for your use? You have asked good questions. Many will say that they want to live a blessed and prosperous life. Many will say that they want to live a life that I can use. Few will take the appropriate action. Few will be willing to do what is necessary. Few will implement and put into practice the promises from my word. What do you mean by that?

Do you see a promise here in my word? Yes, I see your word says, if I meditate on your word day and night my life will prosper. Are you willing to meditate on my word day and night? Will you set aside a daily time and place to meet with me in my word? Will you read my word? Will you study my word? Will you meditate on my word? Will you memorize my word? Will you pray my word? Will you put my word into practice in your life? Yes, I will. That is very good.

As you have been meditating on my word, you have done something else as well. Yes, that’s right. Tell me about it. I have not allowed myself to walk in the counsel of the wicked, stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers. I have separated myself from what is not pleasing to you. Has that been difficult? I won’t say it has been easy. But meditating on your word day and night has been changing me. How so? You have been using your word to change my heart, transform my mind and guide my life. That’s right. It is now my delight to live my life with and for you. There is no place I would rather been than in your presence. There is nothing I would rather do than go and serve you. You are helping me to know and do your will. Now, I know for certain that you are blessing and prospering my life. You are allowing me to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Yes, I am. That is very good.

Lord, I will not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in a seat with mockers. I will meditate on your word day and night. Use your word to change my heart, transform my mind and guide my life as I love, follow and serve you. Amen

Meditates Day And Night

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Life- Psalm 1:1-3 - Meditates Day And Night - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Life- Psalm 1:1-3 – Meditates Day And Night – Growing As Disciples

Instead

Do you want to live a blessed and happy life? Yes, of course, who wouldn’t want that kind of life? There really isn’t some big hidden secret about how you can have a blessed and happy life. I would like to know more. How can I live a blessed and happy life? What does my word tell you? I think your word really says don’t do one thing but do something else instead. What’s that? Your word basically says don’t hang out with evil. Don’t walk with evil. Don’t stand with evil. Don’t take a seat with evil. Yes it says all of that. What does not walking, standing or sitting with evil mean to you? I need to be on guard against evil. I can’t allow myself to become comfortable around evil. I must separate myself from evil. How will you do that? I know evil situations, circumstances and influences when I see them. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what doesn’t please you and isn’t helpful to me. I need to remove me from everything that might try to steal, kill and destroy the life you have given me to live. Life stealers can be situations, circumstance and influences from ungodly and wicked people that will try to lead me on a path away from you. I need to run away from all of these. Why is that? Evil can be very tempting and alluring. It’s better to quickly run away than to hang around and succumb to evil. Yes it is.

A happy and blessed life doesn’t just include running away from evil. No, it does not. That’s why I said you want me to run from evil and then do something else instead. Tell me about what I want you to do instead. You want me to meditate on your word day and night. Yes, I do. What will happen to you as you meditate on my word day and night? Meditating on your word day and night will change my heart and transform my mind. Yes, it will. Your word will help me to think your thoughts and do your will. Your word will strengthen me against evil and it’s temptations. Yes, it will. Your word will help me to run from evil even more quickly. Why is that? Your word will help me to more clearly recognize evil in all its many forms. Your word will increase my desire to live my life for you. Yes, it will. In desiring to live my life for you I will not hang around evil to let it entice me. No, you will not.

A happy and blessed life doesn’t just include running from evil and meditating on my word. No, it does not. Your word feeds and sustains me. Your word refreshes my life and makes me alive in you. Your word helps me to bear fruit for your kingdom and glory. Yes, it does. Al three of these; running from evil, meditating on your word, and bearing fruit for your kingdom and your glory are what constitute a happy and blessed life. I can think of no greater joy than being changed and transformed by your word and bearing fruit for your kingdom and your glory. That exactly what I want. That is my prayer to you. This is the desire of my heart.  This is what I will give to you.

Lord, I will not walk in the counsel of the wicked. I will not stand around with sinners. I will not sit down with mockers. I will meditate on your word day and night. Feed, sustain and refresh my life by your word so that I can bear and abundance of fruit for you. Amen
