Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 149 – Psalm 19:14- May The Meditation Of My Heart Be Pleasing in Your Sight – Growing As Disciples

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14 (NIV)

Pleasing You

There is only one way that will happen. What’s that? There is only one way that my thoughts, words and actions will ever be fully pleasing to you. How is that? For my thoughts or words or actions to be fully pleasing to you, they will have to come from you. Why is that? My heart and mind and life are not naturally in alignment with your thoughts or words or actions. Thoughts or words or actions that are pleasing to you don’t naturally coming spilling out of my life. For that to happen, my life needs a complete overhaul. I need a full restoration. How is that possible? You tell me. No, you tell me. Do you think I know the answer to that question? I know that you know the answer to that question. I need a new heart and mind and life. That is the starting point. Yes, that is the starting point. You are well past the starting point. You asked me into your life long ago. You received my forgiveness and cleansing of your sin long ago. I filled you with my Spirit long ago. I became your Savior and Lord long ago. Yes, you did. I gave you a new heart and mind and life, long ago. Yes, you did.

Well, I don’t always think and speak and act in ways that are fully pleasing to you, of that I am positive. Let me ask you a few questions. I’m listening. When you gave your life to me, I began a good work in you. I began the work of transforming your heart and mind and life, did I not? Yes, you did. When do you think I will finish with my work in you? I think you will be working in and through me until the day I come to meet with you face to face. Yes, I will. What tool will I use to keep on transforming your heart and mind and life? Or, I could say, you mentioned the starting point, what is continuing point? I’m not sure. What do I want you to do? You want me to come to meet with you in your word. You will use your word to keep on transforming my heart and mind and life. You will use your word to help me to think thoughts, speak words and take actions that are fully pleasing to you. Yes, I will. Will you continue to meet with me in my word? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good. I will continue to do my good work in you. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, you are my rock and redeemer. I will make your word the meditation of my heart. I will allow your word to transform the thoughts of my mind, words of my mouth and actions of my life. Help me to fully please you with all my thoughts, words and actions. Amen

Meditation Of My Heart

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Meditation - Psalm 19:14 - Meditation Of My Heart - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Meditation – Psalm 19:14 – Meditation Of My Heart – Growing As Disciples

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14 (NIV)

Words

What words are you allowing your heart to think? What words are you allowing your mouth to speak? Do you think that the thoughts you think and the words you speak are pleasing to me? I know that my thoughts and words fall far short of what is pleasing to you. I feel powerless to change my thoughts and words so that they are pleasing to you. That is a good thought. That thought pleases me. How does my thought please you? You know that you cannot think thoughts and speak words that are pleasing to me without my help. You are powerless to change your thoughts and words without my help. Where does that leave me? That leaves you needing my help.

How will you help me to think thoughts and speak words that are pleasing to you? That is a very good and important question. I have one tool and one way that I will change the thoughts you think and the words you speak. You have my full attention. I’m listening very carefully to all that you want to say to me. That’s good. Hear me clearly say this to you, my word will change the thoughts that you think and the words that you speak. How so? My Holy Spirit will use my word to change your heart and transform your mind. My word will help you to think my thoughts and speak my words. I’m not sure that I understand. My word is like a sword in the Holy Spirit’s hand. The sword of my Holy Spirit will fight in you, with you and for you. Then I will not be powerless in the battle over the thoughts of heart and the words of my mouth. No, you will not be powerless in the battle over the thoughts of your heart and the words of your mouth because you will not be fighting alone. I like that.

I want you to notice one more important point. What’s that? You are in the battle. You are in the fight. What does that mean? You must engage in the battle over the thoughts of your heart and the words of your mouth. How do I do that? I have told you that my Holy Spirit will take my word and use it to fight in you, with you and for you. Yes, I heard you say that. I will ask you a question. Go ahead, I’m listening. How will you place my word in the hand of my Holy Spirit so He has a sword to fight in you, with you and for you? I think I understand. If I don’t know your word, the Holy Spirit will have no sword in His hand for me. In order to place the sword of the word in the Holy Spirit’s hand I need to know your word. I need to meet with you in your word. I need to meditate to on your word. I need to let your word dwell in me richly. Will you meet with me in my word? Will you meditate on my word? Will you let my word dwell in you richly? Yes, Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, as I meet with you in your word I ask you to change my heart and thoughts and words. I trust you because you are my rock and redeemer. Thank you for making my heart and life new so that I can think thoughts and speak words that are pleasing to you. Amen

Key Question… When do you meditate on God’s word so He can use it to change your thoughts and words?

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will change the thoughts of your heart and words of your mouth as you meditate on His word.

The Meditation Of My Heart Be Pleasing

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14 (NIV)

Meditation

That is what I will do. That will change my heart. That will transform my mind. That will help me to know and do your will. That will make me able to think and speak and act in ways that are pleasing to you. What will do all these things in, for, and through you? Meditating on your word will do all these things in, for and through me. Tell me more about what you have in your heart and on your mind. If I take your word deeply into my heart and mind, I will not be left unchanged. Your word is living and active. Your word is powerful. If I meet with you in your word, you will use it to mold and shape my life. Your Holy Spirit will take it and use it like a sword to fight in me, with me, for me, and through me. Your word will help me to resist temptation and fight against evil. Yes, my word will do all these things in, for, and through you.

I do have more to say. I’m listening. I know that this world would like me to think, and speak, and act according to it’s patterns and practices. If I do nothing, my mind will conform to the world. I will think and speak and act like everyone else in the world. Why is this true? My mind is a battle ground. What will I think? Will I think worldly and sinful thoughts that are displeasing to you or will I think heavenly and godly thoughts that are pleasing to you? I really have only two choices. That is correct.  I have made my choice; I will think heavenly and godly thoughts that are pleasing to you. Making that choice alone will not be enough, however. Why is that? It is your word, working powerfully in my heart and mind that will change my heart and transform my mind. So, I have also made the choice to meet with you daily in your word. That is when and where and how, you will help me to think and speak and act in ways that are pleasing to you. Yes, it is. Keep on coming to me. Keep on drawing near to me. Keep on meeting with me in my word. I will make you able to think and speak and act in ways that are pleasing to me. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I know the world would like me to think, speak, and act according to its patterns, and practices. Which would not be pleasing to you. Use your word to change my heart and transform my mind so I can think, speak, and act in ways that are pleasing to you. Amen

Key Question…  What specifically from God’s word has helped you to think, speak, and act in ways that please Him?

Living It Out…  Allow your heart to be changed and your mind transformed by God’s word.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that God will use His word to help you to think, speak, and act in ways that please Him.

I am now dead to sin, the world and all its evil. You have made me alive to you. I have turned away from the world. I have turned toward you so I can love and follow and serve you. I will keep fleeing evil as I pursue you. I will draw near to you. I will enter your presence. I will meet with you in your word. I meditate on your word day and night. Your word will always be before me. I know that you will use your word to change my heart, transform my mind, and guide my life. Yes, I will. You will use your word to help me to think your thoughts. You are making my thoughts and words and actions pleasing to you. Yes, I am. Thank you, Lord.

Do you want to follow my example and live a life that will shine brightly for me in the darkness of this world? Do you want others to be drawn to me because they see my life being lived out in and through you? Yes, without any doubt, I want to live this kind of life. How can I have thoughts in my heart and on my mind that are pleasing to you? How can I learn to think and speak and act like you?  How can I follow your example? Those are all very good questions. You have had quite a struggle with your thoughts and words and actions. That is true. You have wondered how it would ever be possible to have the meditation of your heart and the words of your mouth be pleasing to me. At times, you have thought that you have very little control over what you think and say and do. That’s true. That has been my thinking. Well, that is only partially true. How so? You’re your fortress. I am your deliverer. I have broken the power of sin and darkness and evil over your life. I have given you my word that is living and active and powerful. You can take my word deep into your heart and mind and life. My word will change your heart. My word will transform your mind. My word will mold and shape you. My word will guard and guide you. Pleasing In Your Sight

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Identity - Psalm 19:14 - Pleasing In Your Sight - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Identity – Psalm 19:14 – Pleasing In Your Sight – Growing As Disciples

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14 (NIV)

Thoughts And Words

You want both my thoughts and words to be pleasing to you? That seems like a very difficult task. If you only wanted my words to be pleasing to you, then I might have had a fighting chance. You think you can control the words of your mouth? You think you might be able to never say a word that doesn’t please me? Well, no, I guess I don’t. That’s honest. That’s true. I’m not sure that I could go an entire day without saying something that is displeasing to you. If I never said a word then I wouldn’t say anything that displeases you. Would you never saying anything be pleasing to me? Do you think that I will never call you to speak what you have in your heart and on your mind? I think you want me to speak freely with you. You want me to tell you what is on my heart and in my mind. That’s right. Your talking with me will be pleasing to me. I’d like to talk to you. Then we both want the same thing.

Then, I’ll start talking. Go right ahead, I’m listening. Only you can make me able to think thoughts and speak words that are pleasing to you. That’s true. Without your help, I will never have a mind and a mouth that consistently thinks and speaks thoughts and words that are pleasing to you. That is also true. That is a very important realization on your part. How so? It is important for you to come to rely on me. It is vitally important that you know that you need my help with even something so basic as your thoughts and words. I know that I need your help, that is for sure. I have no doubt about that. That is very good.

How do you think I will make you able to think thoughts and speak words that are pleasing to me? I think you will need to change my heart and transform my mind for that to be possible. Nothing less radical will work, even a little bit. That’s true. What will I use to change your heart and transform your mind? You will use your word to change my heart and transform my mind. How so? As I meet with you in your word you will cleanse and heal and change and transform my heart and mind. Your word will give me your thoughts to think. Your word will give me your words to speak. Your word will give me your deeds to do. You will guard and guide my life with your word. You will strengthen me by your word. Your word will make me able to resist evil and stand against temptation. As your word dwells in me richly I will begin to think your thoughts, speak your words and do your deeds. That’s right. Will you meet with me in my word? Will you allow my words to dwell in you richly? Yes, I will. That will be very good. That will be pleasing to me.

Lord, I want all my thoughts and words to be pleasing to you. Use your word to change my heart and transform my mind. Make me able to think and speak in ways that please and honor and glorify you. I trust you fully because you are my rock and redeemer. Amen
