Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7

Unexplainable Peace

You are a very gifted worrier. That doesn’t sound like a compliment. It’s not. You have the ability to worry about things from every angle. You can see problems long before they will become problems, if they ever will. Do you like to worry? No, not at all, worry stresses me out. Yes, I can see that it does. When would you like to make a commitment to stop worrying? I’d like to make that commitment right now, but I don’t know where or how to begin. Would you like my help? Yes, I would. That’s good because you will never be able to stop worrying by your own efforts.

Let’s start with a question. Go ahead. Who is in charge of your life? What do you mean by that? Who controls your future? Is it you or is it me? I’d like to say that it is you. You’re cautious with that answer. Yes. I am. Why is that? I think that my worrying is a pretty good sign that I think I’m in charge of my life and it’s destiny. Yes, it does. You have a choice. Of what? Who are you going to trust? Are you going to trust me or are you going to trust yourself? I want to place all my trust in you.

Trusting me will require a change in your thinking, attitudes and actions. I’m willing to change. I’m sure that I will need your help to change. Yes, you will. Lets talk about where you will need to change. What would you like to change about my thinking and attitudes? I want you to consider who I am and all that I have done for you. You have been given so much. Yes, I know. I have done so much for you. Yes, you have. What do you think will happen when you think deeply about all the blessings that you have received from me? I think that I will be filled with joy, gladness and thanksgiving. Yes, you will. As you give joy filled thanks and praise to me, what will you become more aware of? I will become more aware of your presence with me. Yes, you will. You will know that I am right by your side and ready to help you. With my help you won’t be tempted to take control and worry about your life.

Before something becomes a worry for you, I want you to do something. What’s that? When you start to have a concern about something I want you to turn that concern into a prayer. Can you do that? Yes, I can. Your past worries have been pretty specific haven’t they? Yes, they have been. I want your prayers to be even more specific than your past worries have been. Why is that? I want you to know that I am hearing and answering your prayers. I also don’t want you to leave any room for worry. Give all the details to me. Do you know what will happen then? Yes, I think that I do. What’s that? I will have a peace from you that will defy all explanations. Yes, you will because your heart and mind will be guarded in Christ Jesus. For that I am eternally thankful.

Lord, thank you that I can bring to you in prayer anything that causes me anxiety. I know you are with me to help me through every difficulty in life. Thank you for loving-kindness. You give me joy and peace that is unexplainable!  Amen

Trust In Me

Don’t be anxious about anything. That’s a lot harder than it sounds. Why is that? I have a lot to worry about. Why is that? I have a lot of concerns. I have a lot of pressures. I have a lot of things to try to figure out. Do you like worrying? Is worrying some sort of hobby of yours? No, I don’t like to worry. It’s not a hobby of mine.

Is everything in your hands? Is everything under your control? No, I feel out of control. Most of the outcomes I worry about in life are out of my control. That is when I worry the most. I have some news for you. What’s that? You are not in control. The world around you is not in your hands. There is very little in the world around you that you can control. You really have two choices. What are my choices?

You can be filled with worry and carry a heavy burden of anxiety or you can place all your trust in me. Do you believe that I am with you? Do you believe that I will watch over you? Do you believe that I love you? Do you believe that I will help you? Lord, I believe that you are with me to help me. I believe that you love me and will watch over me. How would I ever know that is what you believe? I’m not sure what you mean. If you believe all that you say that you do, will you place all your trust in me? How can I demonstrate that I am placing all my trust in you? What does placing all my trust in you require? What will I do if I really am trusting fully in you? Those are all very good questions.

Placing all your trust in me requires that you come to me. If you are really trusting in me you will talk to me about all your worries. You will turn every one of your worries into a prayer to me. You will ask me for all that you need. You will give thanks to me because you trust that I will hear and answer your prayers. You will allow me to relieve you of your anxiety and fill you with my peace. Is that what you want? Yes Lord, I want to be filled with your peace. I want to be relieved of all my anxiety. I want to let go of all my burdens. I will turn every one of my worries into a prayer to you. That will be very good.

Lord, instead of worrying and a carrying a weight of worry I’m going to turn all my burdens over to you in prayer. Thank you that you are with me in the midst of difficulty, guarding my heart and mind and giving me your peace. Amen

Present Your Requests

I’m not hearing many actual prayer requests from you. You are not asking me for very much. Why is that? Do you think that I may be too busy to hear and answer your prayers? Do you think your prayers may come as an inconvenience to me? Do you not want to bother me with your requests? Do you think that you are not worthy to have your prayers heard and answered by me? Are you so busy that you just don’t have the time to pray? You don’t have to answer all my questions immediately. I do want you to think deeply about what I am saying to you.

Is your life so under control that you don’t need my help? Now, I can’t let that question go by unanswered. That is a question I don’t need to take time to answer. I didn’t think so either. You’ve seen my life. Yes, I see your life from beginning to end. I take notice of every detail of your life on every day of your life. Have you noticed that I am full of worry and anxiety? Yes, that’s exactly why I started this conversation with you about your prayers. What do you have in mind? What do you think I have in mind? You don’t want me to carry worry and anxiety through life. No, I do not.

I want your life to be filled with joy. I want you to have peace that is so full and deep that you can’t even explain it. I want you to have my joy and peace no matter what circumstances you face in life. How is that possible? You tell me. I don’t know. Well, do you want to keep carrying your worries and anxieties through life? No, I don’t. What can you do with your worries and anxieties? I can give my worries and anxieties to you. I can turn each one of my worries and anxieties into a prayer to you. Yes, you can. Now if you did that, you would be asking for a lot more from me in your prayers. Yes, I would. That is exactly what I want to hear from you. I want you to ask me for all that you need. I want you to come to me to rely on me in your prayers. Will you do that? Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, I have held on to anxious worries. My joy has been robbed. My ability to rejoice has been limited. I know that you are near to me and ready to hear my prayers. I will turn all my worries into prayers to you so that your peace will guard my heart and mind. Amen
