Ask Our Generous God

The Virtuous Life - Day 206 - James 1-2-8 - Ask Our Generous God - Growing As Disciples

The Virtuous Life – Day 206 – James 1-2-8 – Ask Our Generous God – Growing As Disciples

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.  For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.  So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.  If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.  But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.  Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.  Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. James 1:2-8 (NLT)

Be Filled With Joy

If I need anything, I need wisdom. Why do you say that? On my own, I am not wise. I make dumb mistakes. I make foolish decisions. I take missteps from which I must stop, go back, and retrace my steps and start over. I can’t tell you how many times I have thought, or spoken, or acted unwisely. My foolish ways have cost me time, wasted resources, and worn me out. At no time do I need your wisdom more than when I am going through trials. On those occasions, I need to cry out to you in prayer to ask you for wisdom. Maybe that is one of the blessings of going through trials. How so? Trials show you that you need wisdom, Trials cause you to ask for my help. Trials make you come to rely on me. If you never went through trials or if you never needed my help, would you cry out to me and ask for my help? Let me ask you another question. I’m listening. When has your faith grown stronger? Has your faith grown stronger when the water is calm, and everything is smooth sailing or has your faith grown stronger in the storms of life when you have taken refuge in me? My faith has grown stronger when I have been forced to take refuge in you. Then maybe, you should consider giving thanks for the trails have come your way. I could ask you a few more questions. Go ahead. Has your endurance, as one of my followers, strengthened as you have gone through trials in life? Have you developed a more intimate relationship with me as you have suffered trials? Has your prayer life grown deeper as you have prayed faith filled prayers when storms swirled all around you? Have you learned to hold on to me more tightly as you have gone through all the twists and turns and ups and downs of life? Yes, my endurance has strengthened, my relationship with you become more intimate, my prayer life grown deeper and my hold on you stronger as I have gone through trials in life. Then, for that rejoice. Then, for that give thanks. Then, for that be filled with joy for how trails have performed a good work in your life. That I will do. That will be very good. Thank you, Heavenly Father.

Heavenly Father, there is no doubt, I need your wisdom, especially when I am going through trials in life. I will, with a heart filled with faith, cry out to you for help. I will rely on you to give me wisdom, grow my faith, and strengthen my endurance as I follow you. Amen

Key Question…  What wisdom has God generously given to you when you asked Him for His help?

The More You Grow Like This

The Virtuous Life - Day 205 - 2 Peter 1-5-9 - The More You Grow Like This - Growing As Disciples

The Virtuous Life – Day 205 – 2 Peter 1-5-9 – The More You Grow Like This – Growing As Disciples

In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,  and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,  and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.  The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins. 2 Peter 1:5-9 (NLT)

Effective And Productive

That is what I want to be for you. What do you want to be for me? I want to be more effective and productive for you. I want to bear fruit for your kingdom. I want to bring glory to your name. You have planted your word deeply in my heart and mind and life. As I have come to know and love and follow and serve you, it has become my passionate desire to live a godly life for you. It has become my great goal to be able to know and do your will. Your divine power and the promises of your word are helping me to escape the corruption that is in the world. Yes, my word is doing this work in you.

So, to be effective and productive for me remain in my presence. Draw near to me and I will draw near to you. Keep on meeting with me in my world. Continue to allow my word to change your heart. Continue to allow my word to transform your mind. Continue to allow my word to guard and guide your life. Then you will bear fruit for my kingdom. Then you will bring glory to my name. Then you will continue to be more effective and productive in my service. Yes, I will do all these things. I will live in an intimate relationship with you. I will keep on meeting you in your word. I will keep on holding on to your promises. That will be very good. Thank you, Lord.

Do Not Love The World Or Anything In The World

The Virtuous Life - Day 222 - 1 John 2:15-17- Do Not Love The World Or Anything In The World - Growing As Disciples

The Virtuous Life – Day 222 – 1 John 2:15-17- Do Not Love The World Or Anything In The World – Growing As Disciples

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For everything in the world–the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does–comes not from the Father but from the world.  The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. 1 John 2:15-17 (NIV)

I Love You

That is what I most want to say to you. What do you most want to say to me? I love you. How much do you love me? I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. I love you with all that is within me. Having said that, I still have a powerful and passionate and persistent desire to ask you to fan the flames of my love for you. I want my love for you to completely overpower the love I once had for the things of this world. I want my love for you to guard and guide the entire course of my life. I want all my thoughts and words and actions to be rooted in my love for you. I want the priorities of my life to be formed by my love for you. I want my love for you to make me able to know you intimately. I want my love for you to help me to hear your voice as I walk through life with you. In other words, I don’t want to love you a little bit. In other words, I don’t to know you somewhat. In other words, I don’t want to half-heartedly live my life with and for you. I want to be fully devoted to you today, tomorrow, and forever. My life is at your disposal. I am at your service. I will follow you to where you lead me. I will do whatever you ask of me. This is how much I love you. This is how much more I want to love you. You have a very good prayer that you have been and will continue to pray, of that, I am sure.

Let me ask you a question. I’m listening. Where did this love for me, that is now in you come from? You loved me. I now love you. Your love for me rescued me from a life without you. Your love for me drew me to yourself. Your love for me, placed within me, a love for you. My love for you came from you as a gift. That is correct. That is right. That is true. Do you have any doubts about my hearing and answering this prayer of yours? Will I fan the flames of your love for me? Will you come to know and love me more and more as you continue to live your life with and for me? Will your love for me continue to guard and guide the entire course of your life? Will Your love for me make you able to accomplish my purposes and plans for your life? Yes, I believe that you will fan the flames of my love for you. Yes, I believe that you will help me to come to know and love you more and more as I live my life with and for you. Yes, I believe that my love for you will make me able to accomplish the purposes and plans you have for my life. That is very good. Keep moving forward with me. Keep on loving and following and serving me. Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I have had misplaced priorities. I have pursued all that the world had to offer. I have often misspent my life on what will not last. Forgive me. Help my love for you to overpower any old desire to love things of this world. I am fully devoted to loving you. Amen

Key Question…  How is your love for God helping you to reprioritize how you spend your life?

Living It Out…  Let your love for God overpower your old desire to love the things of this world.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that your love for God will overpower your old desires to love the things of this world.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group how your love for God is overpowering your desires for worldly things.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May your love for God replace the love you once had for the world.

Rather Train Yourself To Be Godly

The Virtuous Life - Day 204 - 1 Timothy 4-7-8 - Rather Train Yourself To Be Godly - Growing As Disciples

The Virtuous Life – Day 204 – 1 Timothy 4-7-8 – Rather Train Yourself To Be Godly – Growing As Disciples

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.  For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:7-8 (NIV)

Training

Here I am reporting for training. Tell me what you have in mind. I want to enter training with you. I want to draw near to you. I want to enter your presence. I want to live and walk in an intimate relationship with you. I want you to mold and shape me into the person you have called me to be. I want to live the life you have given me to live. I want to live a goldy life that is pleasing to you. I want to go where you guide me. I want to do what you ask of me. So, your training will not be a lot of self-effort on your part? My training will require a lot of effort, but it will not be self-generated. My training will consist largely of my submitting myself to you. I am not the coach. I am not the trainer. You are both my trainer and coach. That is a good acknowledge on your part. My training will consist largely of coming to you. How will you come to me? I will come to you in prayer. I will come to you in worship. I will come you by meeting with you in your word. I will come to you in fellowship in your body of believers. I will come to you in service. In all these arenas you will train me, of that I have no doubt. That is very good.

How committed are you to enter in training? What kind of effort can I expect from you? I am all in. I will go all out. I am not entering into training lightly. I am not in this for the short term. This is not a sprint. I am in this for the long haul. This is more like a marathon. I will run on the course that you lay out for me. I will not run ahead of you or lag behind you. My heart and mind and life will be sharply focused on you. With your help, I will run fast and finish strong. With your help, I will complete the course you have laid out for me. Yes, you will. Yes, I will help you to run fast and finish strong. You will complete the course I have laid out for you as you remain in my training. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will enter spiritual training with you. I will allow you to train me so I will be able to live a godly life. Teach me. Train me. Guide me. I want to live a life that bears abundant fruit for your kingdom and brings glory to your name. Use me for your purposes. Amen

Key Question…  May you train yourself to live a godly life.

Living It Out…  Enter spiritual training with the Lord so you will be able live a godly life.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that the Lord will train you spiritually so you will be able to live a godly life.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group elements of your spiritual training in godliness.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you train yourself to live a godly life.

Made Perfect In Weakness

The Virtuous Life - Day 203 - 2 Corinthians 12-7-10 - Made Perfect In Weakness - Growing As Disciples

The Virtuous Life – Day 203 – 2 Corinthians 12-7-10 – Made Perfect In Weakness – Growing As Disciples

To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.  Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.  But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (NIV)

Weaknesses

Are you discouraged or depressed that you have weaknesses within you? Do you grieve that you have weaknesses within you? Do you wish that you were strong in every way? Do you have any idea where you would be and what you would be doing if you had no weaknesses within you? Would you know me if you had no weaknesses in you? Would you be following and serving me if you had no weaknesses in you? Would you be proud and self-reliant and self-sufficient if you never needed my help? Would you be able to bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name, if you accomplished all you set out to do, without relying on me? You have asked me some very good questions that I need to deeply consider. I must not pass other these questions quickly or take them lightly. Yes, you will do well to think deeply about all the questions that I have asked you.

What have you done because you are weak? What have you done because you need my help? What have you done when I have asked you to do something that was far beyond your own power and strength and abilities and talents? I have humbly come to you. I have asked you for your help. I have learned to rely on you. Would you rather have superhuman strength or the ability to place your faith in me and rely on my help? Would you rather be able to accomplish great things with or without my help? Well, those last two questions are hypothetical questions that will never be possible. How so? I will never have superhuman strength. Why is that? You created me to live in an intimate relationship with you. You won’t give me something that would cause me to live independently from you. It was an act of your love that caused you design me to want and need your help. It was your plan that I would place my faith in you and come to rely on you. So, me having superhuman strength was and is not ever going to part of your plan for me. That’s true. Your other hypothetical question is equally impossible. How so? Your word says, apart from you, I can do nothing. I have found that to be true. I can accomplish nothing of lasting and eternal value without your help. So, my accomplishing great things on my own, without your help is impossible. That is also true.

So, what to you think about your weaknesses now? My weaknesses have drawn me to you. My weaknesses have caused to cry out to you and ask for your help. My weaknesses have caused me to place my faith in you and rely on your help. You have worked in and through my weaknesses to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Your power has been on display as you have done in and through me what I could have never done by myself. So, I can now rejoice in my weakness, as I rely on your power. That is very good. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I have not liked having weaknesses in me. That is quite an understatement, isn’t it? OK, I have grieved having weaknesses in me. Now, I am finally understanding it is your plan to work through my weaknesses so your power and glory can be on display. Amen.

Key Question…  What fruit is your life bearing because the Lord is powerfully working in and through your weaknesses?

Living It Out…  Welcome the Lord to work powerfully in and through your weaknesses.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that the Lord will work powerfully in and through your weaknesses.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group how the Lord has worked in and through your weaknesses.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you allow God’s power to work in and through your weakness.

You Ought To Say If It Is The Lord’s Will

The Virtuous Life - Day 202 - James 4:13-16 - You Ought To Say If It Is The Lord's Will - Growing As Disciples

The Virtuous Life – Day 202 – James 4:13-16 – You Ought To Say If It Is The Lord’s Will – Growing As Disciples

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.”  Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.  Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”  As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil.  Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins. James 4:13-17 (NIV)

Listening

That seems to be the key. What seems to be the key to what? Listening, it seems to me, is the key to being able to know and do your will. Why do you think so? If I am unwilling to listen to you, I will never know and do your will. If I am too busy to listen to listen to you, I will never know and do your will. If I would rather listen to myself than to you, I will never know and do your will. Those are all correct statements. What will be required of you if you want to hear from me? If I want to hear from you, I will need to humbly, and attentively, listen to you. I will need to set aside my agenda. I will need to stop and make time so I am not too busy or distracted to hear from you. I must be willing to follow and obey you once I hear from you. It would do me no good if I were only a hearer of your word. I must be willing to go and do whatever you ask of me. Why would you bother to speak to me if you knew that I wouldn’t listen or follow or obey you? I suspect you would not, unless you really wanted to get my attention, so you could turn my life around. And I know that you have done that before in my life. That is true.

But I don’t want to be a reluctant listener. I don’t want to be a hesitant follower. I want to live my life in such a way that I am in sync with you. I want to live in an intimate relationship with you. I want to hear your voice. I want to know and do your will. I want to go and do all that you ask of me. I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. So, I will listen attentively to you. You are correct, that is the key, do that and you will be able to know and do my will. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I know I can dream up elaborate plans to keep me busy. I do not want to be busy. I want to be productive. I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. I want to be able to know and do your will. Help me to listen attentively to you. Amen

Key Question…  How are you making time to listen to the Lord so you can know and do His will?

Living It Out…  Listen attentively to the Lord so you will be able to know and do His will.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that the Lord will help you to know and do His will as you listen to Him.

The Results Of Your Salvation

The Virtuous Life - Day 201 - Philippians 2:12-13 - The Results Of Your Salvation - Growing As Disciples

The Virtuous Life – Day 201 – Philippians 2:12-13 – The Results Of Your Salvation – Growing As Disciples

Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.  For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. Philippians 2:12-13 (NLT)

Pleasing To You

That should be the result of my salvation. What should be the result of your salvation? Living a life that is pleasing to you should be the result of the salvation I have in you. If being saved by you hasn’t completely changed my thoughts and words and actions, I would think something is amiss, that something is lacking, or that something has gone wrong or been short circuited. That is a very good, right, and true thought. How have your thoughts and words and actions changed since you began your new life of salvation with me? The answer to that question could go at least a couple different ways. First, I would like to say that you have been and are continuing to change everything about me. You are molding and shaping my life. You are making me into the person into the person you designed me to be. You are helping me to live the life you have called me to live. All my thoughts and words and actions are different because I am coming to know and love and follow and serve you. In your presence I am becoming a new and completely different person. I will say something odd; you are making it easy for me to obey you. I know that sounds crazy. Not to me. You have been and are continuing to change the desires of my heart. How difficult is it to want to please the one I love? How hard is it to look for ways to please you when there is nothing I would rather do instead? The desire to humbly, and reverently, love, follow, and serve you, is the greatest and best gift that you could have given to me. For this gift, I couldn’t be more grateful and thankful. You are welcome. So, the second, and most obvious thing that I could say is, you have and are continuing to help me to take my focus off myself. I am living to come to know you. I am living to do your will. I am living to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. It is my desire to live in an intimate relationship with you. How is that for being the results of the salvation I have in you? That is very good. There can be now better result. Thank you, Heavenly Father.

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me the desire and the power to do what is pleasing to you. Help me to live a life of humbly and reverently doing what pleases you in all my thoughts and words and actions. I will love, follow, and serve you with all my heart.  Amen

Key Question…  What joy do you have in knowing you are thinking, speaking, and acting in ways that please the Lord?

Living It Out… Live a life of humbly and reverently doing what is pleasing to God in all your thoughts, words, and actions.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that God has and will continue to give you both the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.

Draw Near To God And He Will Draw Near To You

The Virtuous Life - Day 200 - James 4:7-10 - Draw Near To God And He Will Draw Near To You - Growing As Disciples

The Virtuous Life – Day 200 – James 4:7-10 – Draw Near To God And He Will Draw Near To You – Growing As Disciples

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.  Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.  James 4:7-10 (ESV)

That is what you want. That is the life you would like to live. You would like to live a life that is pleasing to me. You would like to be able to resist temptation and stand against evil. You want to have victory over evil. Is everything that I have said about you true? Yes, I want everything that you have stated. How can I live such a life? You tell me. I was sure that you were going to say that. Then you are prepared to answer me. If that is true, it would only be because you have made me able to answer you. I’m listening. What do you have to say? Victory over evil will never come to me by my own efforts. I will never be able to overcome evil with my own strength. There is only one first and best step to securing victory over evil. That step is submitting myself to you. In taking that step toward you, I am taking a step away from evil. And it really isn’t just a step at all. It is fleeing evil as soon it approaches and running to you as fast as I can. Lingering around evil is the surest route to defeat. I must not hang around evil, its allure and enticement are too powerful for me, or anyone else, for that matter. So, immediately flee, I must. But that is only half the equation. Fleeing alone will never be enough. I must have somewhere safe to flee. It is to you I will flee. It is to you that I will submit myself. As I flee evil and run to you, the allure and enticement and power of evil over my life is broken. In your presence, you change my heart. In your presence, you transform my mind. In your presence, you guard and guide my life. That is true. That is what I will do for you.

I do want to say more. Go ahead, I’m listening. I will not only flee to you when evil is approaching. That is not all I want. That is not all I need. I want to live a life continually drawing near to you. I want to live in an intimate relationship with you. So, what will you do? Daily, I will draw near to you. Daily, I will confess my sins to you. Daily, I will humbly live my life with and for you. Then I know that you will help me to live the life you have called me to live. Then I will live a life that is pleasing to you. You are quite sure? Yes, I am quite sure. Yes, you are quite right. I will help you to love and follow and serve me with all that is within you. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I know the first and only best step to victory over evil is to submit myself to you. That I will do as I resist evil. Day by day, I will humbly confess my sins to you as I draw near to you. Cleans me. Purify me. Help me to live the life you have called me to live. Amen

Therefore Honor God With Your Body

The Virtuous Life - Day 199 - 1 Corinthians 6-18-20 - Therefore Honor God With Your Body - Growing As Disciples

The Virtuous Life – Day 199 – 1 Corinthians 6-18-20 – Therefore Honor God With Your Body – Growing As Disciples

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.  Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (NIV)

Honoring Me With Your Body

Will you honor me with your body? That is an interesting question. That question is causing me to think deeply. I have no hesitation in saying yes to you. It is the desire of my heart to honor you with my body. What are you thinking about regarding honoring me with your body? You know my thoughts. Yes, I know your thoughts. I want you to articulate your thoughts to me. When I ask you to share your thoughts with me, it is not for my benefit, it is for your benefit. Here then, are my thoughts. Obviously, if I want to honor you with my body, I will immediately flee sexual immorality when I see it approaching. Tell me more about why it is important for you to immediate flee sexual immorality. Sexual immorality is alluring and enticing and entrapping. The only time to effectively flee sexual immorality is immediately. Later or when I get around to it is far too late. I must immediately remove myself from sexual immorality if I want to have victory over it. That’s right. That’s true. Will fleeing sexual immorality be enough to give you victory over it? No, not at all. As I flee sexual immorality, I must pursue you and the righteous life you have called me to live. One activity, fleeing, is replaced by another activity, pursuing. Really, I can only honor you with my body as I flee evil and pursue you and your righteousness. That is also true. Do both and you will be honoring me with your body.

You have more thoughts about honoring me with your body. You are thinking more deeply on this subject. Let me hear those thoughts as well.  Those thoughts are not clearly formed in me. I’m wondering how I can honor you with my body in other ways. How so? Can I honor you with my body by taking good care of it? I only have one body with which I can serve you. If I don’t take care of my body, my service to you will be greatly diminished and shortened. You are thinking good thoughts. Can I honor you with my body with diet and exercise, sleep, and rest? Can I honor you with my body by how I feed my mind with study and learning? Can I honor you with my body by developing the gifts and talents and abilities you have given to me? Can I honor you with my body by turning all my worries into prayers to you? I know that you want me to live a full life of bearing fruit for your kingdom and bringing glory to your name. Yes, I do. Honoring you with my body, maintaining a healthy body, is an important part of living out that desire. Yes, it is. I will keep on honoring your body in all these ways so I can serve you fully with my body, soul, and spirit. That will be very good.

Lord, I will not play around. I will not linger around sexual immorality. I will immediately flee sexual immorality when I see it approaching. As I flee, I will pursue you and the righteous life you have called me to live. Help me to honor you with my body. Amen

Key Question…  Why must you not allow yourself to linger around anything that is sexually immoral?

Living It Out…  Flee sexual immorality and pursue the Lord so you will be able to honor God with your body.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that your body became a temple of The Holy Spirit when you became a follower of Christ.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group the varied ways you are honoring God with your body.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you flee sexual immorality so that you will be able to honor God with your body.

What You Learned About Christ

The Virtuous Life - Day 198 - Ephesians 4-20-24 - What You Learned About Christ - Growing As Disciples

The Virtuous Life – Day 198 – Ephesians 4-20-24 – What You Learned About Christ – Growing As Disciples

But that isn’t what you learned about Christ.  Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.  Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.  Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.  Ephesians 4:20-24 (NLT)

Three Steps

Do you know that I have given you a new life to life in me? Do you know how to live the new life I have given you to live? Do you know the steps to take, so you will be able to live the new life I have given to you? Listen carefully to my question. There are steps to take. There is an order in which you must take these steps. But also, understand that you will never complete these steps. These steps will need to be reaffirmed daily. These steps must be implemented as you continue to love and follow and serve me. You are going to have to unpack all this for me. I need you to explain all of this in more detail, with greater clarity, so I can fully understand. Can you do that for me? I would be happy to explain all of this so you will be able to clearly understand. That will be great. Here we go. Listen attentively. I will.

Step one is putting off your old life. When you came to accept me as your Savior and Lord, that meant leaving your old life in the world. Doing so means you put off your old worldly and sinful thoughts, words, and actions. As part of that you must make a clean break with the world and all its evil. You must separate yourself from anything or anyone that would draw you draw you back into your old life of sin. Is that clear? That is quite clear. That’s good.

Now step one will be impossible to complete without taking step two at the same time. In step two you will allow the power of my Holy Spirit, to use my word, to change your heart, renew your mind, and guide your life. The great news is that when you accepted me as your Savior and Lord, my Holy Spirit came to live and dwell inside of you. So, my Holy Spirit will be powerfully at work in you. You might call my Spirit’s work in you, “an inside job”. But you have a critical and vital role in the Holy Spirit’s role of powerfully working in you. What’s that? You must allow my word to dwell in you richly. How will I do that? You must meditate on my word day and night. You must meet with me daily in my word. The Holy Spirit will use my word like a sword to fight in you, with you, for you and through you. Is step two quite clear to you? Yes, it is quite clear. That’s good.

Now, step three flows out of step one and two. In step three, you will put on the new life you have in me. How will I do that? You will follow me to where I lead you. You will do what I ask of you. You will live in an intimate relationship with me. You will listen to my voice guiding you through life. You will live the life I have called you to live. Is this clear? Are all three steps clear? Quite clear. Will you take all three steps with me? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I will put off all my old worldly thoughts, words, and actions. I will allow the Holy Spirit to use your word to change my heart, transform my mind and guide my life. Moment by moment and day by day, I will keep putting on the new life I have in you. Amen

Key Question…  How are you separating yourself from anything and anyone that would draw you back into your old life?

Living It Out…  Put off your old life, be renewed in your mind, and put on the new life you have in Christ.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that the Lord will help you to put off your old life, be renewed in your mind, and put on your new life in Him.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group what your new life in Christ looks like today.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you put off your old life, be renewed in your mind, and put on your new life in Christ.
