Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 14 – 2 Chronicles 7:14 – Humble Themselves – Growing As Disciples

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

Pray Right Now

I don’t want anything to hinder my prayers. I don’t want something to cause my prayers to go unheard and unanswered. I want to be able to pray powerful prayers, according to your will, that can and will be heard and answered. Those are very good desires that you have within you. Do you know that it is my delight to hear and answer your prayers? Yes, I know that to be true. That’s good. You have richly blessed my life. You have showered me with your kindness and mercy and love. You have allowed me to taste of your goodness. You have given me far more than I could have ever asked for, dreamed of or even imagined. Yes, I have richly blessed your life. It is good that you are thankful and grateful. Let’s talk more about your prayers. I’d like that.

What could hinder both your desire and ability to pray? If I were to hold on to sin and maybe even cherish it in my heart, that would certainly hinder both my desire and ability to pray. Yes, it would. I certainly will not receive answers to prayers that I have not prayed. It is true, that at times, I have not received because I have not asked. Yes, that is true. Unconfessed sin is more likely to make me want to hide from you, rather than pray to you. That’s right.  So, what will you do about that? I will turn from my sin. I will confess my sin to you. When will you turn from sin and confess it to me? I will turn from my sin and confess it to you as I become aware of it. That’s good. How will you become aware of your sin? Every day, I will include a time in my prayer where I will acknowledge, confess and ask for forgiveness of my sins. In this time, I will ask you to point out any sin that is in me. I will ask you to forgive and cleanse me of all my sins. That will be very good. I will certainly forgive and cleanse you of your sin. Then nothing will hinder your desire and ability to pray. That’s great. Yes, it is.

What will be the desire of your prayers? It is my utmost desire to know you. I want to live in an intimate relationship with you. So, above all, I will seek to know and love you. I also want to live a life that is pleasing to you. Following and serving you will be a consistent subject of my prayers. I want to be able to pray prayers according to your will. I want to pray prayers that will accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. This is very good.

What prayer do you want to pray right now? I want you to heal our land. By land, I mean our earth. Right now, a virus is plaguing the earth. I’m praying that this crisis will cause us all to humble ourselves before you and ask you for your help. I’m praying that we will all turn from our sins and confess them to you. I’m praying for a great revival. I’m praying for a rich harvest. I’m praying for a multitude to come to give their hearts and minds and lives to you. I’m asking that millions upon millions will ask you to be their Savior and Lord. Is this a prayer I will hear and answer? Yes, it is. You are correct. Keep on praying this prayer. Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Heavenly Father, I will humble myself before you. I will confess and turn away from my sin. I will seek your face and pray. Thank you for forgiving my sins and hearing and answering my prayers. Heal our land. Bring health to our people as we draw near to you. Amen

Humble Themselves

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Becoming Like Christ - Day 114 - 2 Chronicles 7:14 - Humble Themselves- Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 114 – 2 Chronicles 7:14 – Humble Themselves- Growing As Disciples

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

Humble Myself

I do need to humble myself before you, there is no doubt about that. Why is there no doubt about your need to humble yourself before me? I have been proud. I have been stubborn. I have been self-reliant. I have lived as if I could handle all the circumstances of life, on my own, without your help. I have lived as if I had no need for prayer. Nothing could be further from the truth. Why is that? I am not all knowing. I am not all powerful. I am not wise. I have made plenty of mistakes. I have taken many missteps. I have sinned against you in many ways. Without you, I have stumbled through life. I have bounced back and forth from one unproductive endeavor after another. The truth is that I desperately need your forgiveness and cleansing of my sin. I could start by confessing my pride. I could continue by confessing my stubborn self-reliant and independent streak. That would be very good. That is what I am now doing. I am bowing myself down before you. I am turning away from my sin. I am turning away from any and every wicked way that has been in me. I am turning to love and follow and serve you. I know that you will forgive my sin. I know that you will cleanse all my unrighteousness. Yes, I will. You will bring your healing into my life. You will revive and refresh and restore my soul. You will guard and guide the course of my life. You will lead me to where you want me to go. You will give me what you want me to do. Yes, I will.

There is something else that I want you to know. What’s that? My humbling myself in prayer before you is not a one-time act. This is not something that I am only doing today. My life will be daily and continually bowed down before you. You are my Savior and Lord. Yes, I am. Daily, I will seek your face. Daily, I will come to meet with you. Daily, I will listen to your voice. Daily I will rely on your help. Daily I will go and do whatever you ask of me. I want to live and walk every day in an intimate relationship with you. That will be very good.

Lord, I will humble myself before you. I will bow down and confess my sin to you. No longer will I live a proud and self-reliant life. I will turn to love, follow and serve you. Thank you for healing my life. Thank you for setting me on a new course in life with you. Amen

Key Question… When have you proudly thought that you could handle your life without any need of prayer?

Living It Out… Humbly turn away from sin so that you can turn to love, follow and serve the Lord.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will heal your life as you humble yourself in prayer before Him.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are humbly praying to the Lord on a regular basis.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you humble yourself and pray to the Lord.

Humble Themselves And Pray And Seek My Face

The Prayer Filled Life - Day 93 - 2 Chronicles 7:14 - Humble Themselves And Pray And Seek My Face - Growing As Disciples

The Prayer Filled Life – Day 93 – 2 Chronicles 7:14 – Humble Themselves And Pray And Seek My Face – Growing As Disciples

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

I Called You By Name

This applies to you. I did this for you. What did you do for me? I called you by name. Yes, you did. For that, I am so very thankful and grateful. That’s good. How did you respond to me when you heard my call? Maybe, at the time, you did not even realize that I was calling you by name. But you did respond to me. What did you do? What was required of you? There was only one adequate response to your call on my life. I humbled myself before you. I turned my life over to you. I told you that I was going to forsake my wicked ways and sinful life. I said that I was going to leave my old life in the world so that I could love and follow and serve you with all that is within me. I said that I would follow you to where you lead me to do what you ask of me. I gave myself to you, without hesitation, without reservation, and without qualification. I made myself fully available to you. I placed myself at your disposal. Was your response a one time offer? No, not at all, it was a onetime commitment, to be reaffirmed day by day as I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. This commitment meant that I would continually seek to know you and do your will. That is very good.

I want to tell you something. I’m listening attentively to you. This commitment you made, your seeking me with all your heart, and mind. and soul, and strength is the ground on which you can know that I will hear and answer your prayers. Do you know why that is true? I’m not positive. As you live in an intimate relationship with me, as you walk through life with me, as you listen attentively to me, I will both give and grant you prayers to pray. You will know how to pray. You will know what to ask for in prayer. And I will hear and answer your prayers. I would like nothing better than to pray prayers that are according to your will. I want to pray prayers that you will hear and answer. And so, you shall, as you seek me with all your heart. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will humble myself before you. I will turn from wicked ways. I will seek your face with all that is in me. I will pray the prayers you give me to pray. I will pray for the healing of our land. Hear my prayers. Answer our need. My faith, and trust is in you. Amen

Key Question…  What prayers are you now praying for the healing of your land?

Living It Out…  Make it your daily practice to humble yourself, turn from wicked ways and pray to God.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that God will hear your prayers as you humble yourself, turn from wicked ways, and pray to Him.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group the prayers you are now praying for the healing of our land.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you live a godly life filled with prayers that the Lord will hear and answer.

Humble Themselves And Pray

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Pray - 2 Chronicles 7:14 - Humble Themselves And Pray - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Pray – 2 Chronicles 7:14 – Humble Themselves And Pray – Growing As Disciples

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

Humility

Do you need to pray? That’s an odd question. Why are you asking me that question? I’m not sure what you are asking of me.  It’s not a difficult question to understand, is it? No, it’s not. Who would ever think that they have no need to pray? How about you? What mean by that? Have you ever thought that you had no need to pray? Have you ever thought that you had all the answers to all your questions? Have you ever thought you knew every step on the way to your direction? Have you ever thought that you needed no counsel or wanted no guidance? Have you ever thought that you could handle every situation and circumstance by yourself? I think you have trapped me with your questions. How so? If I say that , “I have never thought that I had no need to pray,”  you will ask me why then have I not prayed. Wouldn’t that be a good question? Wouldn’t that be something for you to consider? Wouldn’t you like to ask yourself why you have failed to pray? Those are good questions. They are well worth considering. I would like to ask myself why I have failed to pray. Go ahead and ask and answer your own question.

Why have I failed to pray when I was obviously in need of prayer? I have failed to pray for a number of reasons. Let me hear them. Notice, that I did not say, I have failed to pray for a number of good reasons. I have no good reasons for why I have not prayed. Let me hear your bad reasons for not praying. I have been busy. I have been distracted. II have been preoccupied. I have been self-sufficient and self-centered. I have been stubborn and independent. I have been filled with pride. I have been sinful. My sinful pride and independence have probably been the main culprits for my prayerlessness. But, all of this is about to change. I want to live a different life. I want to walk a new path. I want to take a new course. How so?

I want to pray. I want to live in an intimate relationship with you. I want to humble myself before you. I want to seek your face. I want to know you. I want to walk in your ways. I want to hear your voice. I want to receive your guidance. I want to follow your instruction. I want to live each moment of every day with and for you. I want to pray prayers that you will hear and answer. I want to pray the prayers that you give me to pray. I want to live the life that you have called me to live. Why do you want all of this? I know that you love me. I know that you desire all of this for me. I want what you want. I want to live my life with and for you because I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. So, I will bow myself before you. I will humble myself at your feet. I will seek you face. I will follow you to where you lead me. I will do what you ask of me. That will be very good. Then I will hear and answer your prayers.

Lord, I have been proud. I have thought I had no need to pray. I have not sought your council. I have not received your guidance. No more. I will humble myself before you. I will confess my sins to you. I will seek your will. Hear and answer my prayers, I pray. Amen

My People

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - If - 2 Chronicles 7:14 - My People - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – If – 2 Chronicles 7:14 – My People – Growing As Disciples

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

Turn

Would you like to live in a close and intimate relationship with me? Would you like me to forgive your sin and cleanse you of all your unrighteousness? Would you like my healing to come into your life? Do you want me to hear and answer your prayers? Yes, I want to live in a close and intimate relationship with you. Yes, I want you to forgive my sin and cleanse me of all my unrighteousness.  Yes, I want your healing to come into my life. Yes, I would like you to hear and answer my prayers. What must I do if I want all of this to be true in my life. That is a very good question. If you want all of this to be true you must turn in two different directions. What two directions must I turn?

You must turn away from evil if you want to live the life that I have called you to live. You must leave your wicked ways behind. You must separate yourself from your old way of thinking, speaking and acting. You must remove yourself from what was once so enticing. You must leave what was once so alluring. This all sounds very difficult, maybe even impossible. I’m not sure that I will have the strength to turn away from every evil. I don’t know that I can do what you are asking of me. I’m not finished yet. It will not be enough for you to turn away from evil. It will not be adequate for you to remove yourself from what was once so enticing and alluring. You are right to think that this would be impossible for you alone to accomplish. You certainly will not have the strength within yourself to turn away from every evil. But, so far, we have only talked about your turning in one direction. Once you have turned away from evil you must turn yourself toward me. I will make you able to turn away from every evil as you turn yourself toward me. As you turn and seek me with all your heart I will bring my healing into your life. I will forgive you of your sin. I will cleanse you of all your unrighteousness. I will make you able to live in a close and intimate relationship with me. Then I will hear and answer your prayers as you seek and follow me with all your heart. Is this what you want? Yes Lord, this is what I want. Will you turn away from evil and turn yourself toward me? Will you seek me with all your heart? Will you humble yourself so you can meet with me in prayer? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I am humbling myself before you so I can come to meet with you in prayer. I have turned away from evil so I can seek you with all my heart. Thank you for forgiving my sin, hearing my prayers and bringing your healing into my life. Amen
