Forgiven – Forgive

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Rhythm - Matthew 6:14-15 - Forgiven - Forgive - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Rhythm – Matthew 6:14-15 – Forgiven – Forgive – Growing As Disciples

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:14-15 (NIV)

Forgiveness

You have been forgiven of all your sins and cleansed of all your unrighteousness. You have received from me what you did not deserve. You have been given what you could not earn or merit. Your old life is dead and gone. The power of sin over your life has been broken. I am your Savior and Lord. You have a completely new life to live in me. For that, I am so very thankful. I am excited and anxious and thrilled to live the new life that you have called me to live. That’s very good.

I have a couple questions. Go ahead, I’m listening. What will my new life look like? How will I know if I am living the life that you have called me to live? Those are very good questions. Tell me, the answers to those questions. You think I know the answers to those questions? I am certain you know the answers to those questions. I will know I am living the life you have called me to live when I am allowing you to mold and shape my life. Every day you will be changing me. Your work in my life will never stop until the day I come to live forever in heaven with you. That’s right. I am the work of your hands. I will be your masterpiece. Day by day, I will become more like you. You will allow me to think your thoughts. You will help me to walk in your ways. You will teach me to know and do your will. Yes, I will. I will love like you loved. I will give like you gave. I will serve like you served. That’s right.

What else will you do for others just like I have done for you? I will forgive others just like you have forgiven me. When someone sins against me, I will not hold that sin against them. Just as I have received your forgiveness, others will also receive my forgiveness. That is very good. What will be the result of your freely forgiving others? As I forgive others, I will be a bright and shinning witness for you in the world. Others will be drawn to you because they will see you living in and through my life. They will want what I have. What’s that? They will want to live in an intimate relationship with you. They will want to love like you loved. They will want to forgive like you forgave. Yes, they will. As you live like I lived and do what I did you will bear an abundance of fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. That is the prayer and desire of my heart. I will hear and answer that prayer and desire of your heart.

Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your Son into the world so that I could be forgiven of all my sins and cleansed of all my unrighteousness. Make me able to love others just like you love me. Help me to forgive others just as you have forgiven me. Amen

For If You Forgive

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 137 - Matthew 6:14-15 - For If You Forgive - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 137 – Matthew 6:14-15 – For If You Forgive – Growing As Disciples

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:14-15 (NIV)

Forgive

Will you freely forgive others? What does that mean? Will you forgive others who have hurt and harmed you? Will you forgive others who have sinned against you? Will you forgive others who have done evil against you on purpose and by design? That is a lot to forgive. I’m not finished yet. Will you forgive others even though they do not merit or deserve your forgiveness? That is even more to forgive. I’m still not finished. Will you forgive those who even now are living as your enemies? Will you forgive those who right now might be plotting against you? Is that what you are asking of me? Wait, there is more. Will you forgive others without qualification? Will you forgive others without reservation? Is that how you want me to forgive? Before you answer any of my questions consider this; I forgave you without qualifications. I forgave you without reservations. You did not earn or merit my forgiveness. You were living as my enemy when I forgave you. I have freely forgiven you of all your past and present and future sins. Keep in mind, your forgiveness of your sins and cleansing of your unrighteousness was secured at great cost. My son died on the cross as payment of your sins. His blood cleansed you of all your unrighteousness. He gave His all so you could be forgiven. What about you, how much will you allow it to cost you to forgive others? Will you follow my example? Will you do for others what I have done for you? Here is what I will do. I will let go of all bitterness and resentment.  I will not hold on to grudges. I will not seek revenge. I will not consider doing to others what they have done to me. Payback will not be in my heart and on my mind. Yes, I will follow your example. I will pray for those who have hurt and harmed me. I will love my enemies. I will live a life of doing good, even to those who have sinned against me. I will forgive without qualifications or reservations. Yes, I will freely forgive others just as you have freely forgiven me. That will be very good.

As you forgive others, I will continue to forgive you. As you forgive others, you will live in the hope and freedom and joy that I have secured for you. You will be a light for me in the darkness of this world. You will bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. You will shine like a star in the universe.  People will be drawn to you because they see my light and life shining in and through you. That is my dream and my desire. That is very good.

Heavenly Father, I will forgive others just as you have forgiven me. Who would I be to withhold my forgiveness from others when you have so graciously forgiven me? I will never allow unforgiveness on my part to prevent you from being able to freely forgive me. Amen

Key Question… What freedom, healing and joy is yours because freely forgiving others is the ongoing practice of your life?

Living It Out…  Make sure that you freely forgive others so that your Heavenly Father will also freely forgive you.

Seeing It Happen Have faith that as you freely forgive others, your Heavenly Father will also freely forgive you.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how forgiving others is a constant and ongoing practice in your life.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you forgive others so your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.

If You Forgive Others

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - 365 Days Of Guidance - Day 42 - Matthew 6:14-15 - If You Forgive Others - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – 365 Days Of Guidance – Day 42 – Matthew 6:14-15 – If You Forgive Others – Growing As Disciples

For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.  Matthew 6:14-15 (ESV)

Forgiveness

You have said that you want to know me. You have told me that you want to be like me. Is this true? Yes, I want to know you. Yes, I want to be like you. You want to know my will and walk in my ways. You want to join me in what I am doing. Is this true as well? Yes, I want to know your will, walk in your ways, and join you in what you are doing. These are very good desires that you have in your heart and on your mind. I have one more question for you. Go ahead, ask me, I’m listening. What do you think I’m doing? That seems like an impossible question. How can I possibly know what you are doing? I will ask you a different question? What have a done for you? I could answer that question a thousand different ways. You have done so much for me. However, I think you are looking for one particular answer at this moment. Yes, I am. Do you have the answer that I am looking for? I think so. You forgave my sins. Yes, I did. That is exactly the answer I was looking for. Did I forgive some of your sins, or did I forgive you of all your sins? You forgave me of all my sins. Yes, that is exactly what I did for you. Once I forgave your sins what were we able to do together? We were able to live in a relationship with each other. Nothing separated us from each other. There was no longer a wall that divided us from each other. Yes, that’s right.

Now, I have another question for you. Ask, away. If you want to be like me and join me in what I am doing what will you do for others?  I see where this conversation is headed. I have some barriers that exist with some people. Like who? There are people that have hurt me.  I could say that they have sinned against me. I don’t really like them. I don’t want to be around them. If I never saw them again that would be just fine with me. Are you still holding on to bitterness towards them? Have you forgiven them of what they have done to you? I’m still bitter. I’m still hurt. I’m pretty sure that I haven’t forgiven them yet. This is a new day, isn’t it? You no longer need to carry bitterness and unforgiveness. You can be set free from carrying that heavy burden. How is that? Oh, I’m sure that you know the answer to that question. You want me to forgive others just as you have forgiven me. Yes, I do. Is that what you want to do? Is that what you will do? Yes Lord, I will let go of bitterness and unforgiveness. I will forgive others just as you have forgiven me. I will set down the heavy burden that I have been carrying. That will be very good.

Heavenly Father, thank you for forgiving me of all my sins. Help me to do for others what you have done for me. Just as you have forgiven me, so I will also forgive everyone who has sinned against me. Help me to both give and receive your forgiveness. Amen

Key Question…  Why is it critically important that you forgive others just as you have been forgiven?

Living It Out…  Forgive others who have sinned against you, just as your Heavenly Father has forgiven your sins against Him.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that your Heavenly Father will forgive all your sins just as you have also forgiven others.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group how forgiving others has brought God’s healing into your life.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you forgive others just as your Heavenly Father has forgiven you.

Forgiving Others

The Virtuous Life - Day 216 - Matthew 6-14-15 - Forgiving Others - Growing As Disciples

The Virtuous Life – Day 216 – Matthew 6-14-15 – Forgiving Others – Growing As Disciples

“In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can’t get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others.  If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God’s part. Matthew 6:14-15 (MSG)

Forgive Others

That is what I will do. What will you do? I will forgive others. You will forgive others who have hurt or harmed you? You will forgive others who have wrongfully mistreated you? You will forgive others who despitefully used you? You will forgive others who have clearly sinned against you? Yes, I will forgive others unconditionally. Wait a minute, you will forgive others who show no hint of remorse? You will forgive others who have no intention of acknowledging or admitting any of their sins against you? Yes, as I just said, I will forgive others unconditionally even when they are not, in any way, worthy of my forgiveness. Why would you do such a thing? Where did such an idea become part of the way you think or speak or act? Now, you are playing with me. Now, you are teasing me a bit. No, I am not. Well, I am only following the example that has been set before me. You forgave me when I was living as your enemy. You forgave me when I was living in ways that were displeasing to you. You forgave me when I thought and said I did not want or need anything from you. You forgave me when I was living a self-centered, self-sufficient, and self-indulgent life that had no time for you. As despicable as I was, you drew me to yourself. You showed me your kindness and mercy and love. You turned my life around. You forgave my sin and cleansed my unrighteousness. You set me on a new course of loving and following and serving you. Yes, I did all these things for you. I have no doubt about that. That’s good.

So, how could I fail to forgive someone who has sinned against me? Why would I not follow your example? Why would I not do for others what you have done for me? Why would I not forgive others just as you have forgiven me? If I say that I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength, I will think as you thought, speak as you spoke, and act as you acted. I know that you want me to become like you. I know that you want me to follow your example. Yes, I do. That is what I will do with all the strength you will give to me. I will live in your lavish forgiveness as I extend my forgiveness to others who have sinned against me. In that way, others will clearly see that your life is being lived out, in, and through me. That will be very good. Living in this way will allow you to be a powerful and fruitful witness for me, in the darkness of this world.

Heavenly Father, thank you for forgiving my sins. Thank you for giving me a clean and fresh and new start with you. Thank you for making me righteous in your sight. Help me to forgive others just as you have forgiven me. Help me to show your love to others. Amen

Key Question…  How are you now forgiving others just as your Heavenly Father has forgiven you?

Living It Out…  Make it your ongoing practice to quickly forgive those who have sinned against you.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that your Heavenly Father has forgiven your sins and will help you to forgive others who sin against you.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are quickly forgiving those who mistreat you.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you forgive others just as God has forgiven you.
